Are you ready for some football? Dawkins certainly is...

I was listening to 610 WIP a few mornings ago and host Brian Startare had a very special guest on his show, Eagles safety Brian Dawkins. I always enjoy listening to Dawk, one of the few stand-up guys in professional sports today. The thing I love most about him, there’s no question it’s his passion. You can hear it in his voice, the passion he has for the game of football, especially in the city of Philadelphia. As I listened to the interview, Dawkins made one thing very clear, he truly believes the Eagles are going to have a season to remember. He took us through last year, how difficult it was for him both physically and mentally. Yet in typical Dawkins fashion, he pointed out how the adversity he faced has turned him into a much stronger person. He’s ready to overcome the injuries, his family's health problems and all the doubters who believe his career is all but finished. Are you going to doubt him? I’m certainly not.

The other portion of the interview that has to make Eagles fans happy is the discussion about our quarterback, Donovan McNabb. Dawkins stressed the fact that he and McNabb are on the same page, they want a Superbowl ring and they want it NOW. That might seem obvious, who wouldn’t want a Superbowl, right? Well Dawkins went on to talk about how motivated the two veterans are, how hard they’ve worked this off-season to overcome the difficulties of last year. He stressed the word focus, over and over again, leaving one simple message for Eagles fan, it’s all about a championship for Philadelphia. As an Eagles fan, I tend to believe in what Dawkins has to say, a true legend here in Philly. But more importantly, the team needs to buy in to his message. Although there’s a group of veterans still leftover, a majority of this squad is young and inexperienced. Most of them weren’t apart of the Eagles success in the past, so it’s imperative they follow the lead of veterans like McNabb and Dawkins. If they do just that, this mix of veterans and promising talent has the potential to be pretty good. Unfortunately for the frustrated fans in Philadelphia, is another "pretty good" season going to be enough?
