Tomlinson compliments Westbrook
Ladainian Tomlinson,. who is the new Campbell's Chunky Soup guy and arguably the best RB in football, sat down with SI.com this week to answer a few questions... I think one was of particular interest to Eagles fans.
SI.com: Who is a guy in the NFL who does not get the national recognition he deserves?
Tomlinson: Brian Westbrook comes to mind. This guy is a heck of a player, one of the top players in the league. He definitely doesn't get the recognition that he should get. He plays on a team where he has carried them a lot of the time.
He certainly has carried this team...

what a bitch
That comment makes it sound like LT is saying “their team would suck completely if they didnt have him.” Westbrook is a weapon and he does sholder most of the offense but to say he carries our team is degrading McNabb and the rest of our team.

I think it's justified though
When McNabb has been injured the only bright spot has been Westbrook, he is the most consistent player on the team and I think that was the point LT was making. That even when things were going bad B-West wouldn’t let the ship sink.

Westbrook makes our team go.
It’s a fact.
LT is just stating the obvious.

numbers speak for themselves
when mcnabb got hurt, we had garcia & feely to fill his shoes and performed admirably. however, when b-west went down, we had no plan b that performed consistently. b-west’s absence puts additional pressure on the qb and eagles usually lose. that’s one of the pitfalls of not having a star wr. let’s face it, without b-west, this offense is going nowhere.

buckhalter
Buckhalter had i think over 100 yards last season the game that westbrook was out. He averages 5 yards a carry. I think booker will sub in good for westbrook if he goes down at all this season.

buck was 6.1 a carry with 103 on the ground on 17 carries and 4 receptions for 35 for an avg of 8.8 yrds. that is 6.6 yrds per touch. not to bad in relief. I really do think b west is an important cog but to say the team is hopeless without him is also false

LT is completely right
The numbers are the numbers. A lot of fans like to say that we were a few breaks away from being 10-6 or 11-5 last year. But we were also one Brian Westbrook injury away from being 4-12 or 3-13. He was 50% of our offense last year. If that’s not carrying a team I don’t know what is.

It’s true. I can’t think of any team that was more reliant one one player, but I think that is changing this year. We’re getting LJ Smith back, and we’ll have Lorenzo Booker as a mini-Westbrook, so I think Westbrook won’t have to shoulder so much (not that he can’t).
