Eagles Notes: A new QB, Westbrook, Chad Johnson, Andy Reid
The Eagles signed a QB yesterday , Casey Hansen(6'5 235) out of Norfolk State. I guess Andy Hall or Timmy Chang were too busy to spend a month in camp this summer...
Asked if he thought the Eagles should lighten his workload this year, Brian Westbrook said no. "I wouldn't mind it being the same. I think I've been very productive with the ball in my hands with that many touches. I think I can continue to do that."
Marvin Lewis doesn't sound like a guy willing to deal his disgruntled WR Chad Johnson... "We've made it clear what the stance is,'' Lewis said. "It's not going to change, today or in August, whenever. You cannot allow a player to get up on his high chair with four years left on his contract and demand to get out. If you do that, you set a terrible example for the rest of your team, and we won't do that.''
A day after Andy Reid snapped at the local media for "struggling to find a positive story" to write about the team, Mark Eckel unsurprisingly decided to snap back in a long sarcastic(and unprofessional) diatribe. But bloggers are the ones dragging the sports media down... That said, I have to level the same criticism at Reid. I get that he's frustrated, but sniping at the media never gets you anywhere...

that eckel article was stupid..
all he did was prove andy’s point. the sentence where he says “if the eagles keep trading out of the first round they’ll be in fourth place in more than their division”. does he mean fourth in the conference? fourth in offense? defense? fourth place is good as long as it’s not the division. he dwelled on last year, when we all know last year sucked. andy reid said we have good young players, and said they could have concentrated on the positives. instead they are trying to stir up controversy with lito’s contract and insinuating desean jackson won’t be good cause he’s smaller. i’d be frustrated if i were reid too and my local sports media made my team like a terrible team, despite trying to get better and making pretty good additions, in my opinoin.

also
he says he doesn’t think asante samuel is that big of an addition “he’s not positive” about that because our secondary was already very good with brown and sheppard and dawkins, but he leaves out the fact that our secondary generated nothing in the way of turnovers and asante is an interception machine from what i can tell from his past couple of years.

He also neglected to mention that Lito is outstanding…. when he is able to play….

I think he meant to say “if they eagles keep trading out of the first round they’ll be in LAST place in more than their division”
but…as you can glean from this article, Mark Eckel is far from a master with prose.

Andy
Was he really snapping at the media though? I mean there really wasn’t one positive story that I saw come out of the whole weekend. The main story lines were: Lito’s unhappy, Sheldon is unhappy, Asante is unhappy, Donovan thinks we didn’t make enough moves, DeSean Jackson’s too small, we traded out of the first round…can you name one positive story from the past two weeks? I think Andy has a real legitimate point.

I'm positive
Eckel is still an uninformed idiot.
He was puffing this column on 610WIP over the weekend, and made the claim that “every other team in our division made a first round pick”.
Did the Redskins move out of our division? Because they sure didn’t make a 1st round selection.

Who among these “reporters/writers” (I always thought that being a writer entailed that you are able to communicate using the written word, but I guess that doesn’t count anymore) do you guys hate the most? I’ll nominate Gcobb and Eckel. Any other nominations or comments?

Stephen A. Smith, Michael Wilbourn, Peter King… I’ll stop there… Especially Stephen A. Smith though… I would hit him with my car… seriously.

Cannot stand that moron I don’t think there has ever been an “analyst” that based everything on which team he likes more than Skip Biased.

Bayless' only redeeming quality is how much he hates TO.

I don’t like Stephen A. Smith either. And I hate Sean Salisbury as well.

+ 1 ugh
At least I can somewhat respect Hodge because he was a good running back and a starter for the Steelers which is a premier running team.
Sean Salisbury was a career backup who couldn’t win a starting job over Koy Detmer (opinion to prove a point he never played behind Koy Detmer that I know of).
I don’t think because you played in the league you should be allowed to become an analyst.

I’ll go all in and raise you Jackie MacMullan. She’s bent next to Bill Simmons in Boston.

I haven't heard from her before...
I never minded Simmons before Boston teams started winning…I think my dislike at the oversaturation of all things Boston right now sort of rubbed off on him.

Let’s put Hardy in the Hall of Fame already, then, because he’s 7’4”. He says we should stop trading out of the first round, but doesn’t give a reason why. Are the players THAT much better? Who did he want us to take at 19? Don’t forget we came away with a first round pick for next year too.

I also really wish John Madden didn’t act like he wanted to have Favre’s love child… I cringe every time he says the name…
