Desean Jackson speaks
So far the guy painted as some as a head case and an ego out of control has been very humble and straightforward
"I’m very confident that I can produce and do great things for this team on offense," Jackson said as the Eagles’ three-day post-draft minicamp wrapped up at the NovaCare Complex. "I know what I’m capable of doing.
"I just want to do anything and everything possible to help out this team. I don’t want to come in expecting to do too much or not expecting to do too much. Any way I can fit in, that’s what I’m willing to do."
What Jackson says is less important than how he says it. Watching him speak to the media , you get a real sense of the kind of confidence the kid has. I'd hardly call it cockiness(not yet), he comes off much more as genuinely self assured. It's an attitude that I think has been missing from the Eagles WR corps since he who shall not be named was here. Jackson is every bit as diplomatic as Curtis, Brown, Avant, and even guys like Pinston were... in typical Eagles fashion they all tell you what you want to hear. But there's a difference in the way Desean Jackson speaks. I like Kevin Curtis a lot, but it's literally a chore to listen to him talk about anything. Reggie rarely gives soundbytes and when he does it's quick and painless...
Maybe it's nothing more than a wide eyed rookie that sees his whole career ahead of him, but Desean comes off to me as a guy that doesn't think he's going to succeed, he knows it.Go to the Eagles' website and check out the interview he does and tell me if you see what I do. He's got the talent, and I think he has the attitude to be a success in this leauge. I'm pretty excited to find out whether it translates on an NFL field.

Jason—I’m with you, I love the confidence and the self assured way of speaking.
But just to temper any good feeling about that a bit… Freddie Mitchell was the same way.
It’s all about getting on the field and letting your work there do the talking.

A little different than Freddie
Freddie’s self confidence was basically a funny character. There’s nothing funny about the way Desean expresses himself. He’s far more serious than Fredex ever was.

If he’s a “mouth little guy” as one scout put it, I definitely don’t see it thus far. I wonder if part of that perceived arrogance has to do with the fact that he’s been told his whole life that he’s too short to be a great football player. Maybe he’s overcompensating. Okay, I’m not a psychologist…
Anyways, what’s the word on Jackson thus far? I haven’t really heard anything about the job he did at WR. Has he impressed?

its just mini-camp to soon to tell
they are just doing walk-throughs and assessment I would imagine we won’t hear anything until real camp starts. I mean it was only 3 days, doubt he even got much of a chance to learn Andy and Smarty Marty’s offense.

Well
All I’ve heard is that they throw too many things at rookies to see how they handle it. You might not be able to get an indication of how talented they are, but at least you can know about their intelligence and how they respond to pressure. Anyways, I’m just grasping at straws here.

I cringed when he said "gooder" ...
but other than that it’s exciting to hear him speak. As everyone here knows I was lobbying for Malcolm Kelly before the draft but I am pretty damn excited to see this kid play.

The turk?
I’m excited for Jackson to get some PT. However, with Curtis, Brown and Jackson definitely in it for the long haul, shouldn’t there be more said about Avant, Baskett and G-Lew fighting it out for a spot? There’s only so many roster spots for receivers who don’t play.

6WR
I could see 6 WRs this year. The sixth WR could replace the 4th RB (Mahe), who was kept around just for KR/PR duties. But that means one of the other RBs, probably Hunt or Buck, gets cut.
I’m not sure which of those positions they’ll choose to go heavier at.
Why the Hell Not?

Baskett
Why haven’t they focused on trying to develop Hank at all? He seemed like he had so much potential in the 2006 season. And hell no to G-Lew, he has 3 good plays a season, but those don’t make up for the 25 other screw-ups he has.
