Grade our Defense
During a slow Eagles news week. I found it to be a good opportunity to discuss the status of our Defense. Is our defense good enough to win? Will they get turn overs? What is their strengh and what is their weekness?

hmmmm
I think our defense is significantly upgraded from last year, and it should create more turnovers and give up fewer points. So, yes it is good enough to win.
Regarding your proposed depth chart however:
I think for the most part your starters are good.
If Sheppard is an Eagle, he’ll be starting on the side of the field opposite Asante.
Regarding your backups:
I think Bryan Smith will suffer a season ending “injury” in training camp. That’ll make Darren Howard one of the extra Tackles and either Reagor or Ramsey will be done. We can afford Darren and he can back up at DE as well.
I also think there’s a reason Togafau was picked up during the season and kept on the roster last year. At the very least Pago will be a special teamer for us and Andy Studebaker is headed to the Practice Squad.
Anyway – that’s 1 fewer players than you have up there; Dorenbos, Tanard Davis?

Are you accusing the Eagles of Red Shirting people?
HaHa, I like your prediction that Bryan Smith suffers a “season ending” injury. Are you refering to the bogus season ending stinger the sidelined Gocong. HaHa, It wouldn’t surprise me, it allows a player to study and learn the defense without costing them an important roster spot for a player you won’t play. You are a genius. It will be interesting to see who makes the squad “Studebaker or Togafau”. Really, it dosn’t matter either way. Also, I wonder if the Eagles will keep 5 Safetys, or is JR getting cut for the 4th time.

jr should be gone
we have the 2 safteys who started over him still and we brought in demps. to top that off he was supposed to be a answer to our return problems but we just spent an entire draft fixing that i think we have like 6 or 7 return guys now so i would say he is long gone.

I dunno
I thought he played really well last year for stretches when Considine went down or whatever it was that happened. JR still has a lot of potential, I think.

yeah but
is it enough to invest a roster spot in a place where wh have 4 other guys plus bron if lito stays.
also look at how many rookies we drafted if we keep jr we need to cut a rookie.

The battle is between JR and Considine
Only one (of them) should stay on the roster. B Dawk and Q are no brainers. Demps also makes the team (unless he turns out to be another CJ Gaddis), and then we should keep another newbie. But keeping both JR and Considine on the roster isn’t doing us any favors. Neither of them are the long term answer. But if I had to pick one….. I’d go with JR. And thats because of the high caliber hits he lays on people from time to time.

I think people are a little down on Considine. I think he will definately make the team. The guy has an motor that won’t stop. He is all over the field and makes a ton of tackles. He is even envolved in a ton of pass plays. He has two problems in my opinion. He needs to learn to wrap. He is always going for the big hit, but winds up looking like a pop -warner safety. He also has Matumbo hands. I like Reed as well, but we only remember his big hits. No one remembers his mis assignments.

Considine is a pretty good cover man but he is too light for safety. What I remember from Considine is him being run over by McAlister when we needed stops. He is a folk hero back in N. Chicago and Wisc. so I guess their has to be some upside to him. JR, I love his heart! Fearless hitter! And yes, unfortunaly, a one demensional safety. BUT with Jacobs, Portis and Barber in our divison….....tough call. JR ...........our backfield is fine…its the front 7 i’m still not sure of. I’m just worried about the teams future counting on what I feel is still unproven at DT and LB

I think that the issue lies in the CBs and the Ss
I dont think with Lito on our roster, we would have sheldon lining up alongside with asante. Seldon would probably play nickel, with Lito at right and asante at left. Another senario that i see as possible is that Seldon would like up as safety with dawkins, rotating with Q. The first seems most probable. that would be probably the best backfield in the NFC east, maybe the whole NFC,
Left – Asante Sameuls Right – Lito Sheppard
Nickel – Sheldon Brown
