"The way it has played out, I don't see those three guys being here at the same time, It's a tough situation to be in, and this is somebody I'm close to and I consider a close friend. I don't like it for him. Whatever happens, I hope it works out best for Lito. I hate that this is happening to him."
-Brian Dawkins when asked whether he thinks Lito, Sheldon, & Asante can play together.

wow
that is a pretty big statement coming from the leader of our defense. Let’s hope something gets worked out quickly and quietly.

even more interesting is Banners response to Dawks comment.
“I’m not sure what Brian is talking about or if he knows what exactly has happened,” Banner said.

Dawkins needs to shut up
He’s a player, not a manager.
He’s been acting like a manager ever since the Eagles attempted his premature induction into the HOF in 2006.
Remember his stupid comments about Sean Considine replacing Michael “Can’t Cover the Double Move” Lewis?
If Dawk wants to be in the HOF and get a ring, he needs to focus on playing so that the words people remember him by are something other than what he said about being beaten by Carolina in 2003 – “You are not good enough.”

What is happening to him?
POOR POOR LITO? Where is his leverage?
He’s unhappy with the contract he signed. He can’t stay on the field and yet feels he deserves more money. We tried to shop him and couldn’t get good value. Even if we do trade him that doesn’t mean he gets a new deal.
What exactly does Dawkins suggest the Eagles do?
Give him away for ‘09 picks and have Joselio as our nickel guy?
Isn’t Sheldon Brown the odd man out anyway.
In this division with all the tight ends and receivers we need 3 good corners.
Hate to side with Banner but I think Dawkins needs to shut the hell up.
The road to victory!

uhhh yeah i respect Brian Dawkins alot more than anyone that has ever put on an Eagles’ uniform… ever. Maybe he needs to watch what he’s saying, but I don’t think anyone should suggest that he “shut the hell up”... IMHO

I hope we don't have 2005-style locker room meltdown coming up.

Sigs...
You can’t have different sigs for different SB nation sites, so the “Why the Hell Not?” is a reference to the 1989 Orioles from the Orioles blog.

Over on...
IgglesBlog a good point is made about Dawkins’ sentence: “I hate that this is happening TO HIM.” You guys should check it out. In short, this is Lito’s own doing. He signed his contract, he wasn’t able to stay healthy and this is how the NFL works. I love Dawkins but I have to respectfully disagree with him on this specific point.

remember this...
We are eagles fans… the players (most of them) are not. They play for us, but at the end of the day most, if not all care far more about their own interests than the interests of the team. Think about this, you’re lito and you grew up, say a redskins fan. Do you really care that much about the eagles? And as much as Dawkins has always been an eagle at heart, i’m sure he’d pick his friends over the eagles.
The same thing sort happened with the split locker room in 05, but we’re talking about lito sheppard… not TO and there’s a huge huge difference.
So basically i wish dawkins wouldnt say stuff like that, but i understand his concern. We’d all do pretty much the exact same thing at work.
Is it training camp yet?

It's important to remember
Dawkins may well be in line to lead the players association. I suspect that is a big part of the reason he’s spoken up here.
