What do you think of Eddie Royal from VT

I want a big fast receiver like everyone else on this board, but reality is that even if we get a Sweed, Kelly or Hardy, they won't contribute much during their rookie season due to the complexity of Andy Reid's offense.  Since this may be McNabb's last year, I'm not sure this makes any practical sense.

This is why I'm not totally against drafting an OL or S, even a CB with the first pick.  One the same token, I'm intrigued by Eddie Royal, WR from Virginia Tech.  He may be the most dynamic returner in the draft after Jackson and was a good receiver as well at VT.  Rivals.com ranks him at 60 so if he's on the board for our 3rd round pick, I hope the Eagles jump on him like Tommy Lee on a supermodel.  Any thoughts?

love the pick
first other than the media (espn) who says its mcnabb's last year.

second i am a big fan of royal and have been pushing him for a while on the boards he is fast and he is strong and he did a lot with crap QBs. I would be ecstatic if the eagles took him

mcnabb's salary
mcnabb's cap number will continue to increase unless the eagle's decide to rework his contract.  his cap number in 2007 was $8.5M so his cap number in 2008 will probably around $8.5-9M and even more in 2009.  unless he has a stellar season next season, i don't see how the eagles can afford to give him an extension and rework the contract.  i hope he does well next year but i also want to see what kolb can do in a year or two.  i think kolb is a more accurate passer and better suited for the west coast offense than mcnabb.

Royal
I'm not convinced that the complexity of Andy's offense is such that a rookie WR can't contribute. It's just a question of what you WANT him to contribute. We'd all love a guy to have a Randy Moss-type rookie season but that's unlikely. But if a guy can come in and have a season comparable to Reggie's rookie season in '05 then I'd be happy. I'm honestly more worried about making sure Reggie and Kevin continue to get better than anything else. But Royal is a guy I'd love in the third round - would we use him (as a receiver) in the slot?

re: royal
based on the eagles history, for whatever reason (complexity of offense or otherwise), rookie receivers typically do not perform well.  reggie brown was the exception and still he only had 43 receptions with 571 yds.  if we draft royal, he'd be a good fit as the slot receiver.

Nice
So if we draft him is his nickname Eddie "The Revolution" Royal?

he seems ok
I could see him being worth a 3rd round pick. He seems more like a solid fundemental WR than a big play maker unless your talking about KR. Not sure how he fits into the eagles system though.

royal as KR
he will definitely be used as a KR/PR during his rookie season.  if he is able to grasp the offense well, then use him in the slot in certain situations and try to get him in open field situations where he can utilize his speed (quick hitch, WR screens, deep slants etc).

he has talent
alot of tallent. i love the idea of him in the 3rd. he seams to have speed and hands but beyond that he has field pressence and alot of smarts. alot of players dont have the smarts to make the moves and go where he goes. he seems to know before hand which of a couple of situations he will get the most yards. He would be amazing in an option rout and i think he will be able to understand andys offence well.

Does anyone know his GPA?

I want to see him in the third.
