2008 NFL Draft day 2 open thread
The story of day one for the Eagles was movement. We saw three trade yesterday and Andy Reid hinted in his post draft press conference that he may be looking to move around some more. The Eagles have 9 picks remaining.
With only 2 rounds in the books there's still some real quality left. The biggest remaining needs left are on the offensive line and at safety. The good news is that there happens to be some good players left at safety. I'd love to see the Eagles get Dajuan Morgan from NC State or Reggie Smith from Oklahoma.
Finally, the Lito Sheppard situation is still hanging out there. Unless a deal gets done for players or future picks, it's hard to see what value a team might have to offer for Lito.
I'll be here all day with updates and commentary, So let's hang out and have some fun on what should be an interesting day two of the NFL Draft.

I liked this charles Godfrey guy that carolina picked. I’d have liked him to convert to safety

Trade up for Connor – He’s the best guy on the board by a lot. A lot of people had him going late 1st round.

They had another Philly-bred linkebacker (Dan Morgan) for awhile too. Oh Well. I’d love to see Early Doucet come to us too. I don’t know if Andy would do two WRs though…

Brian SMith scouting report
Looks like he’s more of a LB
Strengths:
Good speed and quickness with a burst…Outstanding natural pass rusher…Active with a relentless motor…Nice range and does a terrific job in pursuit…Pretty good instincts and awareness…Reliable tackler…Major special teams potential..Is tough and a hard worker with solid intangibles..He was really extraordinarily productive.
Weaknesses:
‘Tweener who may have to make a position change…Is either extremely (DE) or a little (OLB) undersized depending on where he plays…Needs to get stronger..Can get physically manhandled…Repertoire of pass rush moves is limited…Is overaged and will be a 25-year-old rookie…He did not play against a lot of elite competition.
Notes:
Brother Ryan played football at Stephen F. Austin..Played defensive end in college but may have to move to outside linebacker at the next level…A two-time Division I-AA All-American….An intriguing developmental prospect and pass rush specialist.

Classic Andy - can't risk somebody else having him
from NFL.com
Analysis
Positives: Intriguing athlete who has dominated his level of competition. ... Good burst off the snap and shows the balance to sink his shoulders and drive around the offensive tackle. ... High-effort player who pursues with passion. ... Reads the action quickly and flashes the change of direction to flatten out and beat backs to the edge. ... Flashes strong use of hands to disengage from blocks.
Negatives: Classic ‘tweener who lacks the size to remain at defensive end, but has no experience and only flashes the athleticism necessary to transition to outside linebacker. ... Lacks the strength to hold up to effective blocking – even at this level. ... Not viewed as an intriguing enough prospect to earn high-level all-star game consideration.
This is a system pick – he’ll be backing up Gocong and have immediate impact on Special Teams

4.65 in the 40 at the combine is outstanding for outside rush end.
Think Trent Cole and Derrick Burgess.

When will the Birds start taking some DBs?
Safety could use some new blood.
The Ravens just grabbed Zikowski from ND who is also a punt returner…think John Lynch
He would have been an awesome pick for the birds…Let’s face it…Big Red and company aren’t very good at drafting quality talent.

BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter at right tackle also used as a long-snapper in the past.
POSITIVES: Hard-working college tackle who.s at his best in confined quarters. Patient, makes great use of body positioning, and seals defenders from the action. Stays square, effectively fights with his hands, and anchors at the point. Quickly gets off the line into blocks.
NEGATIVES: Lacks footwork and blocking range. Struggles to adjust and rarely moves opponents off the line.
ANALYSIS: McGlynn is an intelligent blocker who gives good effort and plays with a nasty attitude. A marginal athlete, he is better off inside at guard for a power-running offense.
PROJECTION: Middle Sixth Round

Started 31 consecutive games at right offensive tackle before shifting to right guard as a senior…Appeared in 47 contests during his time with the Panthers, posting 319 key blocks/knockdowns with 49 of those blocks resulting in touchdowns…Had 42 blocks downfield while participating in 2,782 snaps…Graded 90% or better for blocking consistency in four consecutive games in 2007 (vs. Navy, Cincinnati, Louisville and Syracuse), becoming the first Panthers offensive lineman to receive 90% grades in four or more games in the same season since Mark May captured the Outland Trophy in 1980 (vs. Temple, Maryland, West Virginia and Tennessee)...The only other Pittsburgh lineman to grade 90% or better in three games during the same season was Bill Fralic in 1983 (vs. Florida State, Louisville and Army).

Scouting reports
Demps arrived at UTEP in 2003 and redshirted the year. In his first three seasons (2004-’06), he appeared in 35 games (all starts) and amassed 203 tackles (one for a loss), 12 interceptions and 15 pass breakups. As a senior in 2007, he played in all 12 games (11 starts) and had 72 tackles (4.5 for losses), two fumble recoveries, a blocked kick, nine pass breakups and five interceptions (including a pair of 100-yard returns for touchdowns). Demps missed one game in 2004 because of a hamstring injury. Demps is far more effective dropping into coverage than he is filling against the run. However, he is a very good natural athlete, which was confirmed during his outstanding combine workout. He also has a nose for the ball, displaying the ability to make momentum-shifting plays in coverage and on special teams. Demps projects as a versatile reserve DB in the …

Career NotesHis 17 interceptions rank second in school history, topped only by Charlie West (19, 1965-67)...His 15 pass thefts are surpassed only by Louisville’s Anthony Floyd (18, 1999-2002) in Conference USA history (UTEP did not join the league until 2005, and Demps had two interceptions in 2004 while the school competed in the Western Athletic Conference)...Holds the school career record with 404 yards gained on interception returns, shattering the previous mark of 256 yards by Richie Wright (1986-88)...He also became only the seventh player in NCAA annals to gain more than 400 interception yards in a career, joining Terrell Buckley of Florida State (501 yards, 1989-91), John Provost of Holy Cross (470, 1972-74), Jamar Fletcher of Wisconsin (459, 1998-2000), Tom Curtis of Michigan (440, 1967-69), Tracy Saul of Texas Tech (425, 1989-92) and Lynn Chandnois of Michigan State (410, 1946-49). Tracy Porter of Indiana (413, 2004-07) became the eighth player to join that list…Demps’ 331 yards on interception returns (gained 73 in 2004) set the Conference USA all-time record, breaking the previous mark of 254 yards by Leo Barnes of Southern Mississippi (1997-2000)...His 220 yards on interception returns in 2007 set the school and conference season record, topping the old UTEP mark of 183 yards by Ron Bostwick in 1965 and the previous league record of 152 yards by Anthony Floyd of Louisville in 2000…Became the first player in school and Conference USA history to have more than one 100-yard interception return in both a season and career (100-yarder also tied the Miners’ and league records for longest return), as he returned pass thefts that distance vs. New Mexico State and Central Florida in 2007…Only Shawn Ferguson of Cincinnati (123 vs. Memphis in 1998) gained more yards on interception returns in a game in Conference USA history…His 24 pass deflections tied Robert Murray (1983-86) for second on the school career record list behind Jahmal Fenner (25, 2001-04).

BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter awarded All-Conference honors the past two seasons. Defensive totals last season included 72/5/9 when he also averaged 13.3 yards on 15 punt returns. Junior-year numbers included 67/7/12 on defense when he also averaged 23.9 yards on nine kick returns.POSITIVES: Highly productive college player with a good head for his position. Quickly diagnoses the action, keeps plays in front of him, and possesses a nice sense of timing and anticipation. Has a burst to the action, takes good angles to the play, and shows good hands for the interception. Positively affects the game as a return specialist.
NEGATIVES: Slowed by blocks. Not a sure-handed tackler or a real physical defender. Average cover skills when placed over the receiver.
ANALYSIS: Demps has been a solid college player and offers potential in the NFL. He projects as a dime back in a zone system and his return skills give him added value.
PROJECTION: Late Fourth Round

Scouts Notebook
Matt’s Notes on Quintin Demps
Demps is an extremely productive player who intercepted 17 passes during his career at UTEP, three of which he returned for touchdowns. One thing you look at with a player who causes turnovers is what he does with them and Demps picked up 404 yards on those interceptions, averaging 23.7 yards per return. He was also an effective kick and punt returner for UTEP. Demps seems to have a knack for finding the ball in the end zone. He returned two interceptions 100 yards in his senior season and picked off a pass in the end zone of the Senior Bowl which he returned well. Demps shows good man coverage ability and played some cornerback due to injuries. He has very good instincts in the passing game and is a very good centerfielder. Demps also has very good hands for a defensive back. He is solid tackler and will come up and play the run, however he is far from an impact hitter. There is something to be said for a player that makes something happen every time he gets the ball in his hands whether it’s an interception, punt return or kick return.I value Demps anywhere from the 2nd to 3rd round. There isn’t another player in the draft at safety as productive as he was at safety with his level of talent. He didn’t play against the best level of competition, but he certainly has the ability to play and start at the NFL level.
Tommy’s Notes on Quintin Demps
Played some CB due to injuries. Very productive player and a big time playmaker. Picked off 17 passes in his career, including 5 this year. 2 of those INTs came in the endzone and were run back 100 yards for TDs. Plays the passing lanes well. Anticipates throws and will jump routes. Plays the ball aggressively. Has good hands. Wrap-up tackler, but doesn’t drive through the target with force. Quick feet. Good COD. Can come up quickly in run support, but doesn’t do that consistently and isn’t a big hitter. Much more of a cover guy than a run defender. Didn’t play centerfield much. He’s got the skill set to be good at that, but I didn’t get to see him do it as often as I’d like. Good, but not great athlete. Doesn’t have the hips to play CB. Played in the Senior Bowl. Picked off a pass in the endzone.Has both PR and KOR experience. Returned 15 punts for 200 yards (13.3 per PR). Ran back 35 kickoffs for 773 yards and 1 TD (22.1 per KOR). Quintin isn’t a dynamic return guy, but simply makes things happen when he’s got the ball in his hands.
SUMMARY
Safety prospect who specialize in coverage and making plays. Lacks ideal hitting/tackling ability, but makes up for that with his ball skills. Could go as high as the late 2nd or slide down to the early 4th.

This draft is a success if
Jackson and Demps can give the Birds a top 10 punt and kick return unit this year. Two returners with sub 4.4 speed. And as a Pitt grad I can tell you that McGlynn is a really tough, hard-nosed kid. Not the most talent, but he can play all three line positions.

Overview
The long road to the National Football League continues to get longer for Ikegwuonu. More than a year after Jack and his twin brother, William, were arrested on residential burglary and criminal trespass charges, the two are still battling through the legal system to attain a resolution to their cases. The Badger cornerback had a subpar 2007 campaign on the football field that was the result of inconsistent play, legal distractions and injuries.
He later surprised the Wisconsin football staff by making the decision to leave school and apply for the NFL Draft. Once touted as the best cornerback in the college ranks, he saw his potential first-round projection continue to slide throughout his final year in Madison.
Now, further clouding his professional future is a serious right knee injury he suffered working out while preparing for the NFL Combine. Ikegwuonu tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee during workouts in late January. Doctors indicate he will be forced to miss the entire 2008 season.
According to reports, Ikegwuonu also suffered damage to his kneecap. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Ikegwuonu was pulling a sled in a drill designed to improve his speed when the injury occurred. He exploded out of a start and planted his leg when the knee gave way.

BIOGRAPHY: Full-time starter and All-Conference selection the past two years. Numbers last season included 24/1/15 after 41/2/13 as a sophomore.
POSITIVES: Well-sized cornerback with terrific ball skills. Quickly flips his hips transitioning to run with opponents, easily stays with wideouts downfield, and nicely positions himself to make a play on the throw. Stays with receivers out of their breaks and displays an explosive burst to the ball. Comes up the field to defend the run and plays with an aggressive style. Displays good overall awareness on the field.
NEGATIVES: Struggled with injuries as a junior and showed lots of inconsistency. Does not always play within himself and plays too aggressively. Has character issues, which must be looked into. Hurt his knee in late January training for the combine. Suffered a torn ligament and dislocated knee cap. Underwent surgery in March to repair the injury. Not expected to return from the injury until late September at the earliest.
ANALYSIS: Prior to his injury, Ikegwuonu possessed the basic skill and ability to be a starter at the next level. He must now return to full strength and show his surgically repaired knee isn.t permanently damaged. Even if he does that, Ikegwuonu needs to fine-tune his game and learn to play with more discipline to ever reach his potential.

Overall: Gibson enrolled and played at Solano CC in his first two years out of high school (2004-’05), where he earned All-America honors. He transferred to Cal in 2006, playing in all 13 games (nine starts) that season. As a senior in 2007, he started the first 12 games at left tackle for the Golden Bears, but he missed the finale because of an injury. Gibson will have to move from tackle to guard to make it at the NFL level and while there is a lot to like about his blend of size and quickness on the inside, he still has to answer questions about his power. As a result, he projects as a late round pick or rookie free agent.
by JasonB on Apr 27, 2008 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Overview
After two years of dominating on the offensive line for the Bears, Gibson spent his last game in a California uniform on the sidelines due to an injury. Concussions suffered in the team’s final two regular-season games vs. Washington and Stanford would prevent the left tackle from playing vs. Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl.
Gibson’s versatility proved to be just what the doctor ordered when injuries depleted the Cal front line during his first season with the Bears in 2006. He took over right tackle duties after the third game before moving to left tackle as a senior. He will more likely move to another position in the National Football League, as his stellar performances in the East-West Shrine Game practices at right guard have many scouts impressed enough to label that as his future residence.
At Napa High School, Gibson earned All-League, All-Metro and second-team All-State honors as a senior. He helped the team win a pair of conference titles during his playing days and was named the league’s Lineman of the Year as a senior. He was also a participant in the East-West Shrine Game.
After graduation, Gibson enrolled at Solano Community College. He earned All-League honors twice at offensive tackle and was named first-team All-American in 2005. He was listed as the eighth-best offensive line prospect in the junior college ranks by Super Prep and the 55th-best player in the country regardless of position by that service. JC Gridwire listed him as the 14th-best two-year player in the country and the fifth-best prospect in California. He also ranked as the 14th-best junior college player in the country by Rivals.com.
Gibson arrived at California, Berkeley and was immediately named the backup to Scott Smith at right tackle. When Smith was injured, Gibson stepped in and started the last 10 contests. The offensive line clicked right away, as its new right tackle helped that unit give up only 13 sacks on 413 pass plays.
As a senior, Gibson earned All-Pac 10 Conference honorable mention. Shifting to left tackle, he produced 47 knockdowns and eight touchdown-resulting blocks. The team averaged 407.5 yards per game with five new starters in the offensive lineup. Gibson and his fellow blockers gave up only 11 sacks on 443 pass plays.
Career Notes
In two seasons at California, Gibson produced 78 knockdowns, 21 downfield blocks and 14 touchdown-resulting blocks.

BIOGRAPHY: Junior-college transfer who started the past two seasons at both tackle spots. All-Conference selection after his junior campaign.
POSITIVES: Strong small-area blocker who uses all his assets to their maximum. Blocks with good lean, quickly gets his hands into defenders, and plays with a nasty attitude. Stays square, effectively uses angles, and rides defenders from the action. Plays smart football and understands body positioning.
NEGATIVES: Average playing strength and does not get much movement from run-blocks. Lacks footwork in space and lateral blocking range.
ANALYSIS: Gibson is a hard-working and tough blocker, but he.s a marginal athlete with limited upside. His ability to play both tackle spots could help him catch on as an inexpensive backup.
PROJECTION: Late Sixth Round

ESPN says:
Gibson has a quick first step and he sustains his blocks once he’s in position. Although he plays with a mean streak he doesn?t appear to have great lower-body strength, so he isn’t going to drive defenders off the ball. He’s also had problems staying healthy.

Marcus Monk
BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter who also saw extensive playing time as a true freshman. Suffered a knee injury prior to the 2007 season and was limited to just seven games posting 16/144/3. Junior-year totals included 50/162/11 after 35/476/7 as a sophomore.POSITIVES: Large possession receiver with solid hands. Uses his frame to shield away defenders, nicely adjusts to the errant throw, and plucks the ball from the air with his soft hands. Works to become an open target, makes the reception in stride, and strong running after the catch with the ability to break tackles and pick up positive yardage. Stays with the action and out-jumps opponents for the high throw. Makes the tough catch with opponents draped on him.
NEGATIVES: Slow releasing into routes, does not have a second gear, and lacks the ability to be a consistent downfield threat. Inconsistent as a blocker and does not get the results he should.
ANALYSIS: After an outstanding junior year, Monk.s play was slowed last year after his knee injury. He will be downgraded on draft boards, yet he has potential at the next level if he improves the details of his game and becomes more consistent.

Overview
A powerfully built linebacker known for his outstanding performances in the training room and bone-jarring hits on the playing field.
Mays has the ability to generate explosion on contact and has had good success dislodging the ball from ballcarriers during his three years as a starter.
The 2007 Great West Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year has always been a tremendous hitter who turns heads with his “de-cleater” tackles. He has excellent quickness for his size and was the unquestioned defensive leader in the middle of the field. He has solid football instincts and is always around the action.
Mays was a standout linebacker at Hyde Park High School, where he was a two-time first- team All-Conference performer and a first team All-City selection for head coach Wesley Yates. He recorded 115 tackles his senior season, including 16 sacks and had a pair of interceptions. He also produced 110 tackles his junior campaign.
Mays enrolled at North Dakota State in 2003, spending the season with the scout team. He played in 11 games as a reserve inside linebacker and special-teamer in 2004. That season, he registered 45 tackles (28 solo) with three sacks and five stops for losses.
Mays earned first-team All-Great West Football Conference honors from the media and was chosen to Football Gazette’s All-Region second-team in 2005. He took over middle linebacker chores, pacing the Bison with 83 tackles (48 solo). He added four sacks, 10.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage and eight pressures. He also picked off three passes and caused two fumbles.
The North Dakota State middle linebacker was limited at midseason by a groin injury, but still tied for the team lead with 67 tackles (38 solo) in 2006. He was again named to the All-GWFC first-team, as he had two sacks, five stops for losses and a forced fumble. He also broke up three passes.
The Great West Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year received All-American honors as a senior in 2007. He sat out the Southern Utah game with a hip strain, but still led the team with a career-high 90 tackles (45 solo), including 2.5 sacks and nine stops for minus-32 yards. He deflected six passes and gained 49 yards on two kickoff returns.
Mays started 31 of 43 games at North Dakota State, recording 285 total tackles and a school-record 159 solo hits. He had 11 sacks for minus-90 yards, 29.5 stops for losses of 131 yards and 12 quarterback pressures. He caused four fumbles, batted down 11 passes and intercepted three others for 29 yards in returns. He also gained 53 yards on three kickoff returns (17.7-yard average).
Career Notes
Mays’ 159 solo tackles set the school career-record, topping the previous mark of 134 by safety Craig Dahl (2003-06)...Led the team in tackles in from 2005-07 (tied in 2006), joining Sean Fredricks (1995-97) as the only players in school history to lead the Bison in tackles three times in a career.

BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter awarded All-Conference and All-American honors as a senior after a career-high 90 tackles. Junior-year numbers included 67 tackles after 83 during his sophomore campaign.
POSITIVES: Explosive linebacker who pursues the action sideline-to-sideline. Diagnoses the play, quickly changes direction, and shows a burst of speed to the sidelines. Gets depth on drops, displays a good head for the ball, and covers a good amount of area on the field. Disciplined and stays with assignments.
NEGATIVES: Gets caught up in the trash or engulfed at the point. Does not sustain his speed.
ANALYSIS: Mays possesses poor size/speed numbers, yet he does the little things well and could make it for a team that keeps eight linebackers.
PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

Actually DE/OLB
Overview
Studebaker is a small college sack-master who will move from defensive end to rush linebacker as an NFL rookie. Unfortunately, he suffered a sprained right foot halfway through his senior campaign. He still managed 6.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in only five contests. An Associated Press Little All-American as a junior, he made 55 stops including 24.5 for loss, 17.5 sacks and 19 hurries. That followed a first-team all-conference season as a sophomore with 19.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. The injury forced him to miss the Combine and all-star games, but teams know he has real potential.

Wheaton star Andrew Studebaker could be drafted April 22, 2008For a while, it looked as if Andrew Studebaker of Wheaton College and Eureka High School had a chance to be a mid-round draft pick. He had 30 sacks in his career through the fifth game of the 2007 season, and he led the NCAA with 171/2 sacks in 2006. But then a Lisfranc (foot) injury ended his season, and it seemed he wouldn’t be drafted at all. But Studebaker had his walking boot taken off about five weeks ago, and he has been a very popular man since. He has visited the Chiefs, Bills, Ravens and Jaguars, and the Browns are coming to Chicago to see him in a private workout. Seven teams attended his pro day last week, and after training with former Bears fullback Bob Christian, the 6-3, 248-pound end/linebacker ran the 40-yard dash in 4.60 seconds and vertical jumped 361/2 inches.

Blitz all the time?
With all of these 230-250 pound linebackers and defensive ends, it looks like we’re assembling an NFL All-Blitz team. Are we planning to cover anyone, or just blitz all-out on every play?
by bsencore on Apr 27, 2008 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
All of these ends can drop into coverage, nobody will know where the blitz is coming from. Remember Umenmoria lining up at MLB in the first giants game? Good Stuff.

BIOGRAPHY: Three year starter awarded all-Conference and all-America honors throughout his college career. Posted 12/6.5/5 as a senior when a foot injury limited him to five games. Junior totals included 55/24.5/17.5 when he led the NCAA in sacks.
POSITIVES: Athletic and explosive pass rusher who makes a lot of plays up the field. Gets off the snap with a quick first step, plays with terrific pad level and immediately changes direction or alters his angle of attack. Effectively fights with his hands, moves well laterally and rarely off his feet. Hustles to get involved in the action and plays with a nasty attitude. Shows a closing burst of speed, makes plays down the line and quickly locates the ball. Fast off the edge and in any direction of the field.
NEGATIVES: More of a first move defender who must beat blockers off the snap. Struggles against big offensive linemen and slow shedding blocks at the point. Rarely asked to make plays in reverse.
ANALYSIS: Studebaker has been ultra-productive on a small-school level and was a pass rushing nightmare. His development was halted last season by the injury yet he offers a good amount of upside and should be given looks late in the draft as a rush linebacker for a 34 alignment.

We get it
The draft has been a damn fine one talent wise for the Eagles. We’ve got a good mix of safety and high-risk/high-reward type players, which is exactly what we need given our lack of real holes. We’re swinging for the fences with around 1/2 of our picks, which I consider a good thing, and we’re drawing the walk on the rest. Why complain so much? Is Andy Reid (the best Eagles coach in team history, and one of the top 5 in the NFL since he took over) really so bad?
by Alon on Apr 27, 2008 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No, you don't get it
1. No superbowl
2. Last place in the NFC East
3. Lacking a sence of urgence in the draft
This is why I complain.
I’ve been a season ticket holder since birth and I’m tired of Big Red’s drafts….they suck
mmmcc
by fishtown on Apr 27, 2008 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Your arguments are tired
1. We played in the Age of the Patriots. You can’t look at an NFL team and say, “Because it’s won no Superbowls, it is completely devoid of success.” By that logic, basically the Patriots have been the only successful team in the NFL in the decade. The Eagles are damn good, and I wish as much as anyone that we would just win a f*cking Superbowl, but as the TO year showed going out and getting a guy like Chad Johnson doesn’t mean we’ll just win it. If you haven’t noticed, we’ve got one of the most talented rosters in the NFL.
2. Last place in the NFC East, but hardest schedule, and everyone and their mother knows the Eagles were better than 8-8. Bad luck. Happens to every team. Happened to the Patriots. If 2 plays that season go differently, we’re in the playoffs, and just about everyone knows we could beat the Giants.
3. What lack of urgency? We drafted 5 high-risk, high-reward players. Isn’t that exactly what we should get? Very few people in this year’s draft would have gone on our team to become a starter in the next 1-2 years. In fact, I challenge you to name 10 players that could have done so. So, we drafted players that if they came out next year (Ikegwuono, for example) would probably be a top 3 round pick, getting a ton of talent while planning for the future. It’s a good problem to have. Groom the guys we get for a year, let them turn our biggest weakness (Special Teams, depth at DL, WR, and DB) into strengths. I see no problem in following through a draft strategy of that.
Or maybe you’d prefer a real sense of urgency where we mortgage the entire draft to trade up for… who? Let’s get Matt Ryan! Let him take over, cause clearly Donny Mac is a terrible player and Andy Reid needs to be fired for being 1 out of 20-some coaches to not win a Superbowl and only win the toughest division in the league on a nearly-yearly basis.

Please
Excuses are like…you know the rest
I want to win now.
Not drafting in the first round 4 two years in a row sucks.

You go by rounds too much
We drafted overall in the top 50 I think 3-4 times over the past 2 years. That’s good. More than most other teams. And, additionally, we have 2 first round picks (1 from a team that picked top 10 this year) next year. So, over 3 years, we’ll have had like 4-6 picks in the top 50. That’s a TON. The rounds are just a label, it’s the overall pick slot that matters most.

What does the round have to do with it? There’s no magic whereby there are 32 first round grade players each year – some years more some years less.

Lito
So if Lito’s not traded, obviously when he’s healthy it makes the secondary better, but will he keep his mouth shut and be quiet? Brian Dawkins (i.e. Weapon X locker room) runs the defensive backfield, but can he “sheppard” a flock of malcontents?

Lito will hold out if he's pissed
We’ll find out next week at mini-camp

Lets compare Reid's draft to the rest of the NFC
Dallas – Felix Jones RB, Mike Jenkins CB ~ future starters
Washington – Devin Thomas WR ~ best WR in the draft
NY Giants – Kenny Phillips S – best Safety in draft
Philadelphia – ? a back up DT and a Kick returner
Andy Reid is crap!
Fire him and promote Jim Johnson….and do it yesterday!

The Eagles have the most Pro Bowl selections of any team in the NFL since Andy Reid came to the birds. Your criticism of Reid for his drafting is ludicrous. If you want to talk about play calling and clock management you might have some juice but his drafts have been solid. Look at other teams.

Complacency in draft strategy
All 3 division rivals drafted playmakers with their top picks…and the Eagles drafted back ups

Kind of like when we drafted that back up running back in the third round a few years ago. Jackson could easily be a playmaker.
