Eagles looking to move up?

It's always hard to separate fact from fiction leading up to the draft, but in the interest of getting all the reports out there... ESPN is reporting that the Eagles are trying to move up.

The Philadelphia Eagles are exploring the possibility of jumping up from the No. 19 overall pick. According two general managers from two other teams, the Eagles have made it known they would consider moving into a spot somewhere around the No. 10 to No. 15 area.

The presumption is the Eagles are targeting Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jeff Otah. But getting him might require the Eagles to get closer to No. 10. The Eagles likely will have to get in the top 12 because Carolina (No. 13) and Chicago (No. 14) are very possible landing spots for Otah.

Is Otah the guy they want, or is this just typical Eagles front office trickery? We'll know in a few hours...

Andy Reid has been pretty damned good with drafting O Linemen. It’s safe to say, for many (obvious) reasons, it’s his area of expertise. So, I have a general happy feeling about this if it’s true. I’d look for a trade with Buffalo. Buffalo should feel safe trading down to 19, if they are in fact targetting a WR or CB in the draft, like many think they are, because the teams between 12 and 18 appear to have more pressing needs. Anything can happen, obviously, but us throwing a third round pick their way should make it worth the risk to them.

You know, looking at it more closely, it is almost imperative that the Eagles move to 11 if they want to get THE tackle they want or Devin Thomas (I wouldn’t be happy) or Derrick Harvey (omg yay). I think the OT scenario is most likely, however, I wouldn’t be shocked if they made a run at Harvey.

Eagles could go a few ways tomorrow. Pirate cat is excited.

I would also like to add that I think (as long as Andy has not been misleading with his comments about his level of comfort with moving Shawn Andrews back to tackle) that Harvey would be, by far, the player most likely to make a huge impact in the coming year and be a star.

Who knows

Listen if you would have told me last year that the Eagles would have traded there first round pick (#26) to the Cowboys to trade down and take Kolb I would have called the looney bin to come pick you up … we can posture and speculate all we want truth is Andy will do anything and no one can know until it happens. After last year anything is possible and I just hope we come out on top.

Never know

personally, im calling the bluff. Andy is probably going to stay where he is. If we were to move up, they will probably dish a couple of our 11 picks. hopefully they will grab a safety, ,or a explosive wideout. a good DE to line up with Cole wouldnt hurt either. I see Philly grabbing a saftey in the first, hopefully Phillip Merling (with his skills and groomed by BDawkins, he’ll be a killer), a wideout in the second, supposedly many good ones will fall into the second because teams will go after line needs and defesne (i want us to grabb either D.Jackson from Cal or the best, Limas Sweed who takes after plax), and then go after our DE needs and other…maybe CB. Word is that the Eagles are offering the Bengals Lito and a pick (maybe first?). If we get Chad, oh man. Super Bowl, here we come.

I hope none of the things you listed happen. That would be horrible.

If Brian Dawkins grooms Phillip Merling to be his replacement it will be the single greatest transformation in the history of sports. Just busting balls Phillip Merling is a DE anuj, I think you meant Kenny Phillips but that would be a horrible first round pick that kid will be a bust.

The Inquirer rumor is that the Saints are offering Jammal Brown for Lito Sheppard. What do you guys think about that? It seems like a great move to me (maybe too good to be true?). Then we could shift focus away from an OT.

i wouldn’t mind having a young, pro-bowl tackle in exchange for a player that is likely being traded anyways..if it’s between getting draft picks for lito or getting a proven player at a position we would likely want to draft anways, i chose proven player.

I think you’re completely right. I hope this is true – I think the FO knows that getting a player, especially one of Brown’s stature, is better than a 2nd round pick that might not pan out. I’ve heard they might be shopping Brown around to other teams also so I hope we come up with him.

I hope all this is true. if we get the oline out of the way then we can worried about a reciver and safty on picks 1 and 2 and the we are set pretty much.

Devery Henderson?

If they get a second round pick and Devery Henderson for Lito I’m going to be annoyed. What are the Eagles going to do with a mediocre, 5’11” WR? We have plenty of mediocre WRs right now.

by PhillyfanintheBurgh on Apr 26, 2008 1:51 PM EDT   0 recs

that is why i left a reciver still as a need. that is of course if we get brown. i would never want Henderson and a #2

As it turns out..

It was just front office trickery. They obviously had everyone thinking they loved Otah and got Carolina to pay big time for that pick.
