With the #49 pick in the SBNation mock draft...

The Eagles select Safety DaJuan Morgan - NC State.

Yes, I've neglected OT for yet another round... Maybe one day the trio of Justice, Andrews, and Jean Gilles will vindicate me... That said, if all goes well maybe we'll go for a round 3? Be sure to check out Mocking the Draft for my full explanation as well as a grade and analysis from New Era Scouting draft guru Matt Miller.

As always, your comments are welcome and you can express your feeling about the pick in the poll located above the comments.

Update [2008-4-20 15:13:44 by JasonB]: New Era Scouting's Matt Miller has given us an "A" grade for the pick.

I like this pick
He will be a good addition to the special teams and B-Dawk will humble this kid down a little so he should become a very well rounded safety.

Side note: Atlanta has 6 picks in the first 3 rounds including the #3 in the first and second round.  Boy do they need it, if they draft well they could have a decent team in the coming years.

It's a big draft for them
BY the way, I just found that Morgan blocked 2 punts last year...

injury concern
i noticed that he had a serious car accident in high school where he injured his hip and cost his freshman year in college.

if the eagles really do decide to draft him, that's one area of concern for me.

Morgan
he's the 3rd safety in a very weak safety class. Receiver and Safety are so weak in this years draft and we got the #3 ranked guy in both.

I know its just for fun but it bothers me to think of this scenario actually happening.

3rd ranked according to who?
I've seen Sweed ranked as high as the #1 or #2 WR in the draft.

I'm not saying he is or isn't... just saying that it's all subjective.

wrong safety
Like the position, not the player...
should have been
Tyrell Johnson, Arkansas State
you'll see draft day...

We'll see
The "more athlete than football" player thing worries me. Reminds me a bit of CJ Gaddis.

mock drafts
Sweed = Dwayne Jarrett. Except Jarrett had better times and a better college career. Jarrett will never be a star in the NFL neither will Sweed

you cant say that
players could easily become stars. steve smith was a 3rd round pick and hes a star. tom brady a 4th. westbrook a 3rd. its something you have to wait and see on

in response to andy b
Brady was drafted in the 6th bud not the 4th... Anyway, I thought we should have gone OT in the first and grabbed DE in the second. The WR's and S's in this draft are all above average at best and interchangeable in my opinion. Tom Zbikowski in the 3rd would have been a better value pick than Morgan in the 2nd in my opinion.

WHat about Bowe?
Both he and Sweed are big guys that a run  4.5 40... Bowe had a huge rookie rookie year.

Bowe
Bowe is a beast. He is a very physical receiver. The knock on Sweed is he is not overly physical. I do however really like Devin Thomas.....he may slide to 19!

If we aren't grabbing Phillips

I’d punt the Safety position in this year’s draft.

Are we trying to upgrade Mikell here or replacing Dawkins after this year? After Phillips, I don’t think there is anything worthwhile for us at Safety. I’m also confident Mikell is going to blossum into a better player than anyone gives him credit for. There’s also a puncher’s chance that either Reed or Considine progress enough to warrant more playing time. It goes without saying that their shortfalls are more stomachable if we hang onto all 3 CB’s coming out of this weekend.
