Free agent linebacker Rocky Boiman visited the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday and was impressed enough to sign a one-year deal. The 6-4, 236-pound linebacker has played in 86 career games with Indianapolis (2006-07) and Tennessee (2002-05). Last year, Boiman saw action in all 16 games (7 starts) for the Colts, registering 64 tackles and two interceptions. He was a 4th-round draft choice of the Titans in 2002.

The Eagles are hosting linebacker Rocky Boiman on a free agent visit today. He will speak with the media at 4 p.m. at the Nova Care Complex.

Boiman (6-4, 236 pounds) has played six seasons in the NFL, the last two with the Colts. He spent his first four season with the Tennessee Titans.

Boiman, a Notre Dame product, had a career-high 64 tackles last season and he had two interceptions.

Last year season Boiman, 28, had seven starts.

He was a 4th-round draft choice of the Titans in 2002.

With Gocong/Bradley/Gaither the presumed starters and Akeem Jordan sitting on the bench, it would make sense that the Eagles would be looking for some veteran depth in the LB corps.

As it stands now Gaither is the senior member of that unit with a season and a half worth of starting experience.

So...

...if he's speaking to the media he's basically already signed. That's a really quick turnaround. It really seems like they call up players and say: "Wanna be an Eagle?" and the player goes: "Yeah sure." Of course, this is pending a physical and contract talks but if he's speaking to the media those can't be sore points.

Especially with with these lower tier FAs. I remember Ron Dayne meeting the media last year and he wasn't signed.

I figured

the Eagles would sign a cheap veteran LB to back these kids up and help them grow. They just needed someone who didn't think he was still a starter. They wanted to restructure TKO but he wouldn't do it. No offense to Spikes I think he is still a starter in this league and wish he could have stuck around, but he wasn't going to be here and start over the kids, and the eagles don't pay back ups starter money.

Remember when Asante got signed and Jeffrey Lurie and Andy Reid were there and the house was packed? Poor Rocky had to walk up to the podium by himself today - no Jim Johnson or the linebackers coach or anything. But I think this is a great pickup and gives us some good depth at the position.

very good move

last years numbers are very solid for what we need. 7 starts says he has some real game time experiance and 64 tackels shows he could put up real numbers. i know he played all 16 games but that means nothing it doesnt say how long he played each game. and any player that had INTs help. i think he fills a gap we have and he fills it well. this is an other smart pickup like clemons and klecko. he is not going to start but he will leave an impact
