Asante Samuel rumors keep swirling

Pics of DBs pointing seems to be a trend...
Our latest comes from SI's Peter King who has the numbers on a possible offer to Asante Samuel from the Eagles.
Asante Samuel could be headed for Philadelphia. I hear the all-pro New England cornerback could get five years and $55 million from the Eagles, but I think once Philly finds out no other team out there is willing to give $10 million a year to a finesse corner who doesn't like contact -- unlike the franchised Marcus Trufant of the Seahawks and Nnamdi Asomugha of the Raiders -- the price tag could slither down a bit.

King then goes on to say he thinks the Eagles would regret giving Samuel that kind of money because he played poorly down the stretch last year.

I find this little note from King worthwhile because of the numbers he quoted. Until now we had heard crazy rumors of Samuel looking for a 10 year $100 million contract with $30 million guaranteed. All too often reporters get floated these numbers from players' agents, but 5 years for $55 million is clearly below what Samuel's agent would be looking to throw out there. That makes me think this rumor could be coming from someone closer connected to the Eagles rather than Samuel's agent.

Hmm..
Doesn't it seem the Eagles would have to trade Lito before this move?  Otherwise they lose all leverage?

Either that or move Sheldon to safety.

And Sheldon Brown has already made himself captain of the emotional midgets, I wonder how he'll take a new DB making 3 times as much as him.

This would be interesting, that's for sure.

I may be alone here but..
I really believe that a healthy Lito Sheppard is a superior player to Asante Samuel.  Asante Samuel is thriving because of the system he's in.  While I've gotten on Lito in the past for gambling, that's clearly what Samuel makes his name with.

Well...
That's an entirely different question... does this really make the team any better?

No matter what you think of Samuel's aptitude versus Sheppard's, there's no escaping the fragility of our current #1.  The Eagles may simply be growing tired of it.

uhhh....
I definatly don't think that Samuel's is worth the money he is asking. Anybody can be a star player under the system bill belichick runs. Lito is definatly a better corner then Samuel. I think we should go after Wilson and draft a good corner if we really need one that bad, but i think we need a shutdown WR or a good DE in our first rounder. As for corners, Talib is a good pick but i think McKelvin might be around during our turn. And we could use a good PR/KR in replacement for Mahe.
