Patrick Murphy for president

Whenever Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA) is up for re-election, he's got my endorsement.

The US House of Representatives decided to pass this "resolution" congratulating the Giants on their superbowl win. The resolution passed, 412-1.

Murphy, a diehard Eagles fan who worked at Veterans Stadium as a security guard when he was 16, was the only House member to vote against it. "As a former 700-level security guard and lifelong Eagles fan, I couldn't, in good conscience, vote for the New York Giants," Murphy said Thursday. "The only thing worse would have been a resolution honoring the Dallas Cowboys."

Forget Obama, forget McCain... I say Murphy in 08!

Obviously Patrick Murphy has a keen political acumen and he also knows that Philadelphia football fans are pretty gullible.

As evidenced by the reaction of people on this board it is obvious that this was a calculated political move. What Eagles fan will vote against this guy now? Brilliant move Mr. Murphy, you have guaranteed yourself reelection.

Giants fans

Murphy represents Bucks County in PA. There are a number of ex-New York voters there. Local radio is giving them air time to complain about Murphy.

I would say to those Giants fans, get over it. Console yourselves with the win.

To me this is the polar opposite of Hillary Clinton's famous pander when she was running for New York Senator. When asked if she would root for the Yankees or the Mets, she said, "Both!"

In contrast to that, Patrick Murphy represents everything that is good and true and pure and right and decent in American politics today. Not much, admittedly, but still.

Time Well Spent!

I'd rather Congress spent their time doing this kind of meaningless stuff (Clemens hearings, etc.) rather than doing more harmful things like raising taxes, increasing wasteful spending, or screwing up my life in some other way.
