Chad Johnson rumor of the day

Danny's latest toy?
Oddly enough, the #1 search term that has led people to BGN over the past month has been "Chad Johnson." It tells me people are interested in the guy, so here's your CJ rumor of the day...

Apparently the Redskins could go for broke.

Numerous league sources, including some with direct knowledge of conversations between Snyder, Cerrato and recent head coaching candidates, have affirmed that the Redskins have interest in trading for Cincinnati wide receiver Chad Johnson, with two league sources saying Johnson is eager to land a hefty new contract from Washington.

Acquiring an elite receiver is Snyder's top priority, league sources said. The Bengals have said they have no intention of trading Johnson, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is working quietly to broker a deal, the sources said.

The Redskins also are expected to again pursue Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs, another Rosenhaus client they attempted to trade for last offseason.

The Redskins are currently $16 million over next years' cap and attempting to convert salaries to bonuses and pushing money into later years in hopes of making room this year.

Lucky for them, if they landed Chad Johnson they wouldn't need that much money to sign rookies. The word is that he'd cost them a first and third round pick as well as possibly a player. That's a pretty heavy price.

Snyder doesn't need no stinking draft picks...
They didn't have a first, third, or fourth last year, why not two years in a row?

Salary Cap
Why be only $16 million over when you can be $26 million over?

That being said, I'd prefer not to have to guard this guy twice a year...

When will they learn?
The Redskins haven't been a strong contender in the NFC East for quiet some time and I doubt Chad would make any difference. They should develop good college players... and work towards a positive future.
