Free Agency And Who The Eagles Should Aquire.
Im not giving up on the playoffs, even though we need a miracle with tampa bay. Im just looking into the future so dont label me as giving up lol. This is my opinion so please feel free to disagree or agree. Just dont forget im a bit of a cryer so play nice :D.

These are all positions that need to be replaced unless in some cases players are resigned.
QB
No Replacements Needed on any string unless they dish mcnabb for someone else ... if so i highly suggest trying to bring back Garcia but i doubt that happening ... i don't think he will want to willingly leave a good thing ... he wanted to be with us from what i believe but we let him go, and even though this is old news, he should of been resigned for 1 more year ... started the next while Donavon fully recovered ... i still think he came back too early ... but any way
Jeff Garcia, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Garcia could retire at season’s end given that he is nearing forty years of age, but many expected he would have hung up his cleats by now already. The veteran just keeps going and is playing to keep his team in games. He had a strong showing in Philadelphia in ’06 and last season the veteran passer threw for over 2,400 yards and 13 touchdowns in 13 games. This season, he has thrown for just over 1,600 yards and only five touchdowns in seven games, but he has only three total turnovers. He may be asked to stick around somewhere in the league for another season.
HB
Unless we resign Bucky which i would like to see for at least one to two more years, we need to grab sproles ... he could like a spark to our backfield and would fit perfectly to compliment westbrook since we have yet to see booker do so. He also could replace desean or demps to increase their starting roles and or injury risk. Unless booker was acquired to replace bucky after this year and shines. I personally don't want to take the chance. The only stipulation is we have to rely on westbrook or eckle for big yardage gains. Which we haven't seen but should have ... any ways ...
Darren Sproles, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Sproles is a spark plug of a runner, who doesn’t shy away from contact and has excellent speed. He has done most of his work on special teams, where he is averaging more than 25 yards per kick return and almost 11 yards per punt return. Sproles best hope is to be a number two back while doing the special teams work as well; that’s just the position he finds himself in with the Chargers. Sproles will likely stay unless a team offers him a chance at a starting role. Michael Turner has found some success having left San Diego, but Sproles doesn’t have the same skill set.
WR
I think we still all have the dire hunger for a STAR/#1 receiver. I believe the only worthy one in free agency is TJ Houzamacallit himself. I would rather have him then trade for ocho cinco. We also could possibly acquire Tony G at TE in a trade and quite personally if you could get both them on the same conference call and convince them to come with the talent we already have, this is all we really need besides any other positions addressed to be Superbowl bound... but oline upgrade would help make it easier. We will def need to break bank for TJ i can promise that. A smaller more possible reach may be Shaun McDonald, i dont see him as a star #1, but he can be a basket replacement and fight for a number 2/3 spot. Who knows maybe 1 ? Doubt it ... Get TJ if that fails grab Shaun ... unless crabtree drafts ! crabtree all the way man !
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
A Pro Bowl player, Houshmandzadeh is one of the league’s top receivers and arguably the best number two receiver in the entire league. A seventh round selection, Houshmandzadeh now has more than 5,600 career receiving yards. Amazingly, he has increased his reception and touchdowns totals in each of his six seasons and is coming off of a league-leading 112 receptions with 12 touchdowns. Also, he has been able to put up strong numbers this season even without Carson Palmer throwing to him for most of this season. He may once again reach a triple-digit total for receptions and might also break the 1,000-yard plateau for the third straight season. Losing Houshmandzadeh would be a major setback for Cincinnati. Look for the Bengals to make every effort to retain and possibly promote Houshmanzadeh.
Shaun McDonald, UFA, Detroit Lions
McDonald has had to play behind the likes of Torry Holt, Roy Williams, and Calvin Johnson during his six seasons. He hasn’t been spectacular, but he has shown that he can be a quality receiver. He had a career-high with 79 receptions last season with the Lions and converted six of them into touchdowns. His numbers have dropped this season as the entire team has struggled, but considering his situation, 35 catches for 332 yards isn’t a poor showing. McDonald has the ability to be a solid number two, and chances are he’ll look to play for a more competitive team.
OL
Personally i don't pay much attention to offensive linemen. So my insight on these free agents would be blowing smoke up your arse. So ill let the professionals point out who is worthy of a signing. I see Tra Thomas getting resigned, but Runyan ? Maybe Franchise Tagged ? I Sure as hell have no clue whats gonna happen.
Matt Birk, UFA, Minnesota Vikings
Birk is a Pro Bowl center who has gotten the job done for the Vikings for the last decade. He’s fairly athletic for a lineman and is playing alongside another great lineman, guard Steve Hutchinson, making Birk’s life even easier on the field. He’s grounded in Minnesota, so the chances of him choosing to leave seem slim at the moment. However, Minnesota is grooming John Sullivan in hopes that he will eventually replace Birk.Marc Colombo, UFA, Dallas Cowboys
Although he was injury prone early in his career, Colombo has become a solid tackle in Dallas. He allowed just a single sack in his first go round with the Cowboys and he has since been a big reason for the success of the running game and the protection afforded to Tony Romo. At 29, teams will consider the fact that he probably has several seasons left in him.Mike Goff, UFA, San Diego Chargers
While the Chargers would probably prefer to keep Goff, the franchise has been effective in drafting and developing linemen and might look for Goff’s replacement at a better price. Goff has been a leader who simply goes about his business and players like running back Ladainian Tomlinson have benefited from his level of play. Goff has played for a quality line for some time and he’s a big part of the equation when it comes to success.Jordan Gross, UFA, Carolina Panthers
A first round pick in 2003, Gross earned a starting role in his rookie season and held that role as a tackle for the entire season. His ability to step in and play well right away paid off for the Panthers, as the team put together a run to an NFC Championship. He’s continued being a starter since that rookie season and is a solid player. Carolina slapped the franchise tag on him for this season, and chances are he will be another team come ’09.
DL
The only person i think we should try for is Julius Peppers, but im not sure trying will nab him. Im pretty sure your gonna have to dump millions on the table literally to sign him. We have seen a spark from Parker but it NEVER hurts to upgrade a position, Never. Imagine Cole Opposite Peppers, :: Homer's Donut Drool:: ...
Julius Peppers, UFA, Carolina Panthers
A freakish athlete, Peppers struggled in ’07, but has come back strong in ’08. Teams will be lining up to try and lure him away from Carolina with a huge contract offer. The 6’7” end has nine sacks and five forced fumbles through ten games. He could be the top free agent player as teams look to add an end that has had double-digit sack totals four times in six seasons, including 13 in ’06. He also has four career interceptions and has been making quarterback’s lives miserable since he entered the league. Peppers probably shouldn’t be able to do some of the things that he can and many teams would prefer to have those things happening for them rather than against them.
Terrell Suggs, UFA, Baltimore Ravens
Being a converted linebacker has helped Suggs become a defensive end that can track the ball above average. In his first five seasons, Suggs had 299 tackles and 45 sacks to his credit. Through eleven weeks of the current season he is putting together another strong showing with 47 tackles, five sacks, and two interceptions. Suggs may not be as rewarded as Peppers or Haynesworth will be in free agency, but he will certainly be pursued by a number of teams who want to save a little money and still come away with a quality defensive end. Baltimore is constantly pumping out quality defensive players, so they may not be willing to match a big offer if one comes along, but they will miss Suggs if they lose him.
LB
Ray Lewis ? Need i say more about unreachable free agents lol. Dansby Seems like the only reach, Barton is solid but getting old. Dansby would be a nice now and future addition. I'm not gonna cry if gocong or jordon is replaced by Dansby.
Karlos Dansby, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
Dansby is becoming a consistent linebacker in the NFL. In his last three full seasons, he has tackle totals of 89, 82, and 99. He has also tallied at least three sacks in each of his five seasons as a pro. His three interceptions last season tied a career high and Dansby is young and athletic. So far in ’08, he has made a pair of picks, has three sacks, and has made 70 tackles. He isn’t in the same class as some of the linebackers on this list, but he may eventually be pretty close. Dansby will appeal to several teams because of his age, size, and potential.
DB
I hope and when i say hope, i mean im praying for the life of me Brian Dawkins Is Not Released. Hes got at least 2-4 more in the tank. RESIGN BDAWK !!! I dont even want to think about replacing him so here is all the people available, including what they say about Brian.
Nnamdi Asomugha, UFA, Oakland Raiders
Asomugha’s numbers don’t overwhelm other than his eight interceptions in ’06, but the big reason that he has only 241 career tackles and 10 interceptions is because opponents attack the side of the field that Asomugha isn’t on. He has 40 passes defensed over the past three seasons prior to ‘08 and he’s one of the NFL’s best in coverage. He’s held some of the game’s best receivers in check in single coverage and when he becomes a free agent, he may command the most attention of the lot. With the release of DeAngelo Hall, the Oakland may look to pay Asomugha, considering how talented he is.Mike Brown, UFA, Chicago Bears
When healthy, Brown has proven to be a valuable part of the Bears defense. Brown’s best season was in 2001, when he had five interceptions and three sacks, but he been a steady contributor when he has been in the lineup. In four seasons, from ’04 through ’07, he played in just 21 games. To this point this year, he has a sack and an interception to go along with 55 tackles, while playing in every game. Teams will be concerned about his health history, so Chicago appears to be the right fit for him. However, there are teams willing to take a risk in the NFL, and Brown has been healthy so far this season.Brian Dawkins, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Dawkins has been one of the better safeties in the league for some time now. He’s in his mid-thirties, but he will still be of interest to several teams because of his track record. He has had at least one interception in each year of his 13-year career, and he’s had only one during the two seasons he missed considerable time. As recently as two seasons ago, he had five forced fumbles, four picks, and 98 tackles. While he may not be quite the same player he once was when he becomes a free agent, he’s having a decent season and will probably still be a better option than many other safeties in the league. He’s played in Philadelphia his entire career and chances are it’ll stay that way.Dawan Landry, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
It is difficult to imagine that the Ravens would let Landry get away considering he is young and showed major potential during his first two seasons in the NFL. Landry, a safety, made a significant impact in his first year when he made 69 tackles and had five interceptions as well as three sacks. While his sacks and interceptions dropped in year two, he tallied 83 tackles, still making plays on the ball but just not coming up with turnovers. He was placed on injured reserve for this season after playing in just two games this year. Landry is athletic and finds the ball well. It’s a safe bet that Baltimore wants to keep him around through his prime.Dunta Robinson, UFA, Houston Texans
Robinson missed nearly half the season last year, but before he was injured he was being mentioned alongside the top corners in the league, even though he played for a struggling Texans team. He also missed the first five games of this season, but has 18 tackles and a pick in the five games he has played in since. He made a name for himself in his rookie season when he made six interceptions, three sacks, and 88 tackles. Any team would like to have his services in their defensive backfield if he can stay healthy, and if Houston doesn’t start winning, Robinson could look for a change of scenery with a more successful franchise.Other Defensive Backs
Tyron Brackenridge, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Mike Brown, UFA, Chicago Bears
Phillip Buchanon, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jabari Greer, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Rodney Harrison, UFA, New England Patriots
Kelvin Hayden, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Renaldo Hill, UFA, Miami Dolphins
Daven Holly, UFA, Cleveland Browns
Bryant McFadden, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
R.W. McQuarters, UFA, New York Giants
Justin Miller, UFA, New York Jets
Lawyer Milloy, UFA, Atlanta Falcons
Deltha O'Neal, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Jarrad Page, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Allen Rossum, UFA, San Francisco 49ers
Darren Sharper, UFA, Darren Sharper
P/K
I think Rocca will grow better in the NFL as he goes, but he is old. Age doesn't really hurt you at punter granted the chances of getting banged up making tackles, which we all hope doesn't have to happen. Bringing one of these guys on to compete ? Might be worth a shot. Shit punters cost a nickle a year don't they j/k ? Then again roster spots could be an issue this upcoming season. Who Knows.
Mike Nugent, UFA, New York Jets
Nugent has been somewhat consistent from distance in his short career, but an injury forced the Jets to go with Jay Feely early in the season and the team seems content to let Feely continue to handle the kicking duties. As for Nugent, from over 40 yards, he had converted 13 of 19 from over 40 yards during the ’06 and ’07 seasons and three of seven on kicks over 50 yards. He isn’t an elite kicker, but his age and development will find a team willing to give a decent look.Shane Lechler, UFA, Oakland Raiders
A Pro Bowl punter, Lechler has a booming leg and has been important to the Raiders special teams’ play for more than eight seasons. He averaged 42.5 yards per punt in his worst season, but otherwise has never averaged less than 45.7 per kick. His 49.1 yards per punt average during ’07 wa quite impressive and he is averaging a better 49.4 yards per punt so far this season. While he isn’t a great short situation punter, he will help a team win field position battles regularly. The Raiders will want Lechler back after this season.
Well im off to bed, chicago blocked green bays 38 yard field goal with 20 some seconds left in the fourth. Chicago kneeled for OT and ran down the field to Kick their own UNBLOCKED field goal for the OT win. I'm not completely sure but i think we needed chicago to lose to go to the playoffs. I know tampa must lose but im almost certain they had to as well. I was routing for them too either way. Oh well ill find out on ESPN tomorrow or here. Adios Amigos
PS. Remis, i expect something hilarious in commentation.
PSS Jason I can never center images, would you mind editing and centering the NFL logo ? Thanks lol

Why would you sign Sproles when you already have Lorenzo Booker?
Just kidding on that. Sproles intrigues me, but I’m afraid that the Eagles don’t run or use their running backs enough to add him to the Westbrook and Buckhalter mix to really get value out of that signing. Though, I have a feeling the Eagles will let go of Buck because he will turn 31 next season and an even weirder feeling that the Eagles will keep Booker for another season. A backfield of Westbrook, Booker, and Sproles would be a bit too small. You would still want one RB with some size and power.
Nnamdi Asomugha intrigues me, but again, he doesn’t necessarily fit because they already signed Samuel and have Sheldon Brown and Lito Shepherd. I would think Nnamdi Asomugha could get even more $$$ than Samuel in free agency.

Jordan Gross could be the equivalent to signing John Runyan in 2000. Basically stealing a young tackle from another team and getting a long run of productive play out of him.

First off, I hope Donovan stays. Just give the man a go-to WR and he will shut up all the haters. I still believe in the guy. I dont know about the rest of the fans in Philly, but I would hate to see Kolb starting next year under center. If its not Kolb then it would be who? Cassel? Garcia? I dont know..
I dont see us adding Sproles. If we do add an RB I see it being a big running back. I know we have Eckel for the 3rd and 1 scenarios, but I would be more comfortable with an established running back who we can use to give Westbrook some fresh air. But what am I saying, we dont run the ball enough for Westbrook to get tired anyways. What was it something like 12 carries against Washington. All I know is that when we run the ball effectively we normally win.
Peppers would be a nice addition but I just dont see it happening. ha.. I would love to be wrong on that though.
I think our main focus should be a big time WR like TJ.. and maybe Boldin or Fitz if we can convince Arizona to trade.
As far as the line… some OT’s who can fill in for Tra and Jon’s shoes if their time is up. Also if Dawkins doesnt return is Demps taking his spot?
I could be way off on alot of this stuff but hey, just throwin stuff out there

Andy, as EVP of Football Operations, though, is Heckert’s boss.
We all know how incredibly draining coaching an NFL team is and the hours Reid puts in. (probably to the extreme detriment of his health and family life).
Either give Heckert a bit more independence, or get a GM that you trust to have a little more independence.
It sounds like Reid didn’t coexist well with Tom Modrack, but I don’t think Reid would have quite the same leverage to influence the organizational structure if LurieBanner put another GM in place that didn’t report to Andy.
Holmgren lost his GM/VP role before taking the ‘hawks to the bowl as a coach. Isn’t the precedent now swinging away from having the coach have ultimate power?
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

I know that Andy is the EVP, and what he does and who makes what calls is all speculation we really don’t know. I always thought they brought Heckert in to do the job and gave Andy a shiny new title to keep him happy. I think that Heckert does more then people think.

For RB I’d like to see them make a run at Steven Jackson but it would be a lot of money in two backs, but he’s only 25, 6’2" 235lbs. I’d like to see Bucky stay too.
For WR I think Baskett is gone, TJ is obviously a great choice to add, so is Antonio Bryant. I also like Reggie Williams from the Jaguars.

Replace the Right Side
The Eagles weakness this year has been the offensive right (defensive left) – the strong side.
Replacing LJ Smith, John Runyan, getting Shawn Andrews back, replacing Chris Gocong for at least some snaps is a start. Then we have to figure out who is the left D End (Parker? Abiamiri? A free agent?). And then we need to figure out who is the X receiver (Jackson? Brown? A free agent?).
I’d like to see the Eagles resign Tra Thomas, Dawkins, and Buckhalter (who needs competiton as does Booker) to two year deals, get a Center to compete with Jackson, who needs to be forced into shape along with Jean-Gilles so that they have body types closer to Herremanns and Andrews.
I think Jackson becomes the X and the #1, which shoves Brown over to compete with Curtis. Jackson has 3 games with a TD and 7 games over 70 yards in 14 starts – that’s really impressive for a rookie. Brown has 16 games with a TD in 46 games starting and 20 games over 70 yards receiving. Curtis has 6 games with a TD in 24 starts, and 7 games over 70 yards. You have to give the edge to Brown on those numbers to be the Y receiver and the #2. That pushes Curtis into the slot, where he rotates with either Avant or Baskett, who becomes the #4, and would seemingly encourage the Eagles to go to a base offense of 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB more often. If Curtis goes slot, maybe he shoves Lewis off special teams as gunner and off the team as well, which frees up a roster spot for another position.
I’d like to see new on the team to at least compete – 2 tight ends, 1 right tackle, 1 center/guard, 1 SAM linebacker, 1 bigger WCO running back who can catch the ball – like Duckett or Davenport, 1 cornerback, 1 safety. It would be nice if 1 tight end, 1 right tackle, 1 SAM and 1 bigger back were experienced and proven free agents.

Davenport
Everyone better get pad locks for their laundry hampers in this case
But T.O. and his sideline histrionics wear on a quarterback. He's like the hot stripper you tried to clean up and convert into a real girlfriend. It's a lot of fun until the moment she has her second drink while out to eat with your parents. You unravel quicker than she does.

We need to take care of our guys first, here are our free agents
RB Correll Buckhalter UFA
WR Hank Baskett RFA
OT Jon Runyan UFA
OT Tra Thomas UFA
C Nick Cole RFA
LB Pago Togafau RFA
CB Bruce Perry UFA
SS Sean Considine UFA
FS Brian Dawkins UFA
I only really care about Dawkins, Runyan, and Buck, I’d like to keep Tra Thomas and Nick Cole for depth and experience reasons, and I think Hank Baskett would be good for the right price. I think he might ask for to much. If the sign Considine back I’m going to flip a shit.

i agree with your assessment, with one change… if he signs at a reasonable price, I’d rather them keep Baskett and straight up cut Lewis

i think it depends on the draft
I am far from a coach but i would speculate that if they draft a higher number of skill positions early in the draft they will not keep him. Considine is a good ST player but no potential to do anything else except piss me off. They may draft a stud skill player or safety who they think can be a good ST AND not get knocked around like a school girl on the field.

FOR 1
why is everyone wanting defense our defense has played good with wat we have baradley played pretty good his first year in the middle , gocong has coverage problems but brings the wood and gaither jordan will make each other better they both have lots potential
. u cant build a team through FA. the players we have on defense are great every good defense has its bad games ravens against jacobs , steelers against US. so save that. on offense T.J. would be nasty but most likely we wont have a QB so get ready to suck either way kolb im sorry isnt the answer. kolb with no running game and 3 slot wrs im sorry im gettin sick thinking about it . he aint matt ryan with burner turner runnin for 120 a game he is gonna have to carry the team just like D-MAC did when he came in SORRY AINT GONNA HAPPEN

Woah Woah Woah
First off, defense wins championships. The only reason why the Steelers are above 500 this year is their defense. Their defense keeps them in every single game.
Secondly, you don’t know if Kolb will suck as a starter or not. You know he’ll be bad? Really? Are you a walking crystal ball? If so, please send your application in for our scout team.

RB
How about Laurence Maroney? he’s actualy pretty good, but he got injured this season, and im almost certain he would love to leave NE and actualy get some snaps, and asante could tell us if he’s good… he’s only been in the league 2 years, and if he runs the ball hard, then lets westbrook do his moves, in the 4th, SPROLES could come in
and we got ourselves a faster new york giants run game… just a suggestion? but we’ll have to commit to the run, and if we’ve got TJ i dont think Fat guy would be very commited

just gonna throw this out there...
I could totally see the Eagles making some BIG, uncharacterisc FA moves in the offseason. I think they know that if we’re ever going to win with this nucleus, they need help.
A #1 receiver and big back on Offense would not surprise me at all
I will be absolutely shocked if we draft two first rounders this year. One (or two) of those first round picks are as good as traded already
side note:
December 28, 1996 – Dallas’ last playoff win
February 10, 1997 – Mario Kart for Nintendo 64 is released

ya know… I was thinking the same thing today… especially if somehow they pull their heads out of their asses and beat Dallas. basically, if that happens, the whole cast will be back (minus some outbound depth fodder)… but andy will know that he’s on the edge of the limb… i could see some really uncharacteristic moves by Eagles standards… taking chances on ilreputable players, ect.

I could see them going for a big free agent signing, and I think it would be Jordan Gross
I think with Runyan’s age, they are ready to move on. The year Runyan was signed, he was a big free agent signing for the Eagles. They felt protecting their young, highly drafted quarterback (McNabb) with an experienced offensive lineman was a huge priority. I think the Eagles would want to go that route again. Gross would be that guy. Kolb could eventually be that young, highly drafted quarterback that they want to protect with a very good offensive line. Build from the offensive line out like they did with Runyan. I believe the Eagles are pretty high on King Dunlap and Mike McGlynn. And still have some reasonable expectations for Max Jean Gilles. In two years a potential starting line of Dunlap, Andrews, Gilles, Jackson, and Gross would be interesting. Yes, I think they’ve given up on Winston Justice, and yes I d realize that you are really hoping that Dunlap and McGlynn pan out and that there is some uncertainty with the big Kid.
700 Level, I totally agree with you that they are absolutely going to trade at least one of those 1st round picks away. Do they package the two first rounders to move up? Maybe to get a stud tight end in the draft to replace L J? Maybe a stud center for that offensive line?

i’m not sure what you’re talking about buut this is what we should do
waive Mcnabb and desean jackson and put greg lewis at quarterback because he doesn’t have a history of throwing up. then we should fire swoop and hire tonya harding to break brian westbrook’s ankles and then make him the new mascot. put brian dawkins as the announcer for the Linc. Jon runyan will be the new head coach. Andy Reid will be the guy handing out free cotton candy at sixers games. tra thomas is going to be the new GM. in two years, when he will become a free agent, we will sign Lebron James as our new head coach because Jon Runyan would have died by then of being too hairy.. then we will make sav rocca the new kicker and punter and holder and longsnapper.. just to save roster spots so we can trade jerome mcdougle (we’ll do a sign-and-trade) for elton brand, andre iguodala, jeremy roenick, david beckham, and obviously tom cruise… i’m pretty sure that’s what we’ll end up doing…

That Lurie will trade the Eagles to Bon Jovi for the Soul. Bon Jovi will then become the Eagles owner and install the big rebound nets in the back of the endzone like the Arena League. Eric Lindros will return to become the Eagles head trainer.

Why do you think he isn't worth a damn?
You’ve seen a total of what 30 passes by him? Do you expect him to come in and start playing like Joe Montanna?
Is he going to do better? I hope so. When he practices with the #1 team and gets some reps with them I imagine there will be better chemistry.
You have to get it out of your mind that 30 passes is not enough to evaluate a QB. Are you THAT big of a dope?

dang chad johnson is actually not a bad idea. lets not forget this guy at dominated the airwaves 2 seasons ago. hes young and can still play the game and he said he would like to catch for donovan. I wouldnt be against it at all. but knowing our history with big shot receivers it probably wont happen. but you never know

When is David Akers contract up?
A new kicker would be nice, Akers is on the down swing of his career, and he’s been inconsistent from outside 40 yards. Not to mention he is nonexistent at the Meadowlands.
