Eagles Redskins - What they're saying

Desean Jackson had four drops on the day, including two deep passes that could have both been touchdowns.

"I should have had both of them," Jackson said succinctly. "I'm still young. I came in and tried to make plays for the team," Jackson said. "I wasn't able to get things going like I usually do, or like I needed to."

That's the thing with rookies... when you depend on rookies to make plays you live with their growing pains as well. Desean has never shied away from owning up to his mistakes.

"I'll take the blame," Jackson said. "Being the receiver I am I definitely feel like I should have made those plays."

Most Eagles didn't have much to say.

"Crushing," linebacker Chris Gocong said. "I'm just at a loss for words right now."

Reggie Brown may have summed it best when asked about the final play.

"What did it feel like? It sucked. This type of game, the implications of this game were enormous for this team."

You got that right Reggie.

Brian Westbrook was only asked to run the ball 12 times... a fact he didn't seem to happy about.

"I don't ask any questions," Westbrook said. "Coach saw something that dictated that we should pass the ball."

yeah… coach saw something alright… a big steaming pile of fuck… that’s what

But T.O. and his sideline histrionics wear on a quarterback. He's like the hot stripper you tried to clean up and convert into a real girlfriend. It's a lot of fun until the moment she has her second drink while out to eat with your parents. You unravel quicker than she does.

It could be worse. You could be Andy Reid’s toilet.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Reggie Brown and L.J. Smith simply suck. It’s like watching Al Harris play corner, they get all fucking pumped when they make one ten-yard reception, and then proceed to drop a couple of passes, miss blocking assignments, commit penalties, and get injured.
Someone please teach Andy Reid how to manage a football game. Passing for 6 yards when you need 10 won’t get you a first down, no matter how many times you try it. Also, how many times do we go into the two-minute warning with only 1 timeout left? When’s a good time to try and go downfield? Maybe wait until the final five minutes, when you’re behind, when your pass to run ratio is 3 to one, and then take a shot -that’ll catch them off-guard. My only consolation is that Westbrook hasn’t announced his desire to leave yet and that Dawkins probably turned the locker room into a post-apocalyptic wasteland after that game.

LJ does suck, I’m not so sure Reggie sucks he has battled injuries this year and why he may not be the 1000 yard 12 TD receiver we wanted him to be he is still a good option.

The timeout everyone says Andy wasted it idiotic LJ was lined up wrong and instead of getting the penalty they used a timeout not to difficult to understand, but frustrating all the same.

Andy isn’t the reason McNabb is throwing check downs in front of the sticks. I get annoyed as much as everyone else but it’s the players duty to execute the play, if that is all that is open then you try and make it work.

This team in the hurry up is horrible Donovan shows very little sense of urgency, and while I love him as my QB that really pisses me off.

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

Andy is definitely the reason McNabb is throwing check downs in front of the sticks. He puts McNabb in a position where that’s the only thing open. If a team knows you will pass and wants to defend the first down, they’ll cover everything but the check down and let you have it all day long. Donovan/Reid just don’t seem to have any hunger. You see Dawkins running around the field obliterating people and running around the sidelines firing people up – and then you see Donovan, cool as a cucumber, waiting for a few more seconds to run off the clock. Then smiling and clapping his hands when he misses a key throw as if it were a preseason game. Meanwhile Andy still thinks we’re a couple of plays away from winning a Super Bowl -as if the problem were just inadequate footwear or something.
McNabb missed a lot of throws into the dirt, but he knows that a pick would seal the loss, and knows that the backs are by now just sitting on every throw he makes, he’s going to be really conservative and miss low and behind instead of up and in. That said, I’d almost rather see him Favre it up and throw two picks and two TDs sometimes instead of zero of either. It’d open up the game at least, and I’d have to something to watch that didn’t look like a water buffalo butting it’s head against a brick wall for four quarters.

So Sad...

…that Thomas, Westbrook, etc. all have to subtly or not-so-subtly mention that we ought to run the ball more. Maybe they can go, like Dallas does, and have a secret meeting with Marty.

Secret meetings

will not cure the problems Dallas has! Who knows what team shows up against your Eagles this week!

Shut up Westbrook

You were given the ball in the 2nd half in open space on short passes and could barely run because were playing injured, so you kept getting caught from behind. You had no business running the ball during that time, and if you weren’t so selfish, you’d have told Coach Reid that Buckhalter should go in because you were injured.

What confuses me...

…is that didn’t Brian say he was feeling better than he had all season before this game? I thought he did. Or at least he was pretty healthy.

And second, would it surprise you if he asked Reid to put in Buckhalter and Reid didn’t? Wouldn’t surprise me one bit…

by ajay on Dec 22, 2008 12:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Buckhalter must be the nicest guy in the world, or have very low self-esteem. How has he not gone ballistic on Reid.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

....

Reid is the head coach…..he doesn’t have to wait for Westbrook to tell him to put Buck in….it’s his decision…..get off Westbrooks butt he’s carried this team numerous times. Besides we didn’t run the ball enough…..12 times when on down for 10 pts most of the game. Don’t tell me that is enough!!!!

by slandog on Dec 22, 2008 1:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

isn't it part of Reid's job description to manage the players though?

I would think if he felt Westbrook was playing injured, Reid shouldn’t have to wait for Westbrook to tell him to put Buckhalter in.

Funny how

everyone is back on bashing Reid again. Reid wasn’t at fault for any of that non sense that we call the offense.

BTW, MARTY was calling the plays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! C’mon guys your logic is marred by the loss yesterday. It hurts, it stings, but we have to admit our offense played like SHIT and we DO NOT have good enough players on offense to win consistently.

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

by Joe_D on Dec 22, 2008 12:23 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If Andy tells Marty not to call another run play,

then Marty will not call another run play. Period. Don’t forget the hierarchy. You speak like you’re sure Reid will actually fully succumb to Marty’s playcalling.

by Eagles need to run on Dec 22, 2008 5:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Andy, Marty, that’s just a ruse. You know damn well that those two are on the same page and that it’s all Andy’s offense, regardless of who they say is calling the shots. Whose fault would it be that we don’t have the players (healthy) on offense to win consistently? Why don’t we have another running threat, or a fullback? Why are we still waiting for Reggie, Greg Lewis, Hank Baskett to “develop”? Should we go through the list of teams with better options at WR and their place in the standings?
It isn’t the players job to pick talent, put in players who can execute, and call the plays -that’s up to the GM and the head coach. If your T.E. can’t block, can’t catch, turns upfield instead of towards the sidelines while you’re trying to mount a game-tying drive with one timeout and under two minutes left…WHY is he playing?
Your WR threat is a rookie -that’s the guy you’re asking to win the game for you? Westbrook is carrying an injury so…we don’t run at all? What about Buckhalter?
