Around SBN: The 2009-2010 Card Chronicle Big East basketball preview

Our 2009 WR picture

ok so this year has shown us alot. We have seen tha talent of the small but un affraid Jackson. we finaly got the answer to our Tight end Question and th is "we need on." and the 2 big recivers that we got a couple of years ago have stepped up big when needed. and for our 2 staters last year well.... curtis has been injured but has played pretty good and Brown well i guess we can all plug in a given word for him, but the truth is in all probability hey both will be back next year. so what can we expect to change.

there are 2 option either the front office will say we need to get something done and put their balls on the line d go grab a big name FA. or....

we do nothing but get a TE.

lets go through each WR and see what will happen

Jackson ---- he is atleast our #2 next year

Curtis ---- his situation is quite interesting is he can be any spot fronm our #1 t our slot

Brown ---- he is owed way too much money to go anyware so he may be an expensive 4th or 5th

Avant --- is still with us and is now worthy of a full time role

Baskett --- is a FA and probably wont be back since we have avant who is a carbon copy with out the playmate and we need room to bring in either another rookie or a big name FA

and we can assume that LJ is gone too.

who can we bring in in the FA Market?

T.J Houshmandzadeh and Boldin who we all wish for and while alot of people feel we wont go for them we are almost in a do or die situation and have to do the things that the rest of the NFC East is doing to keep up.

there also are quite a few Draft choices who i dont know so ill let you guys do the work on that.

and for a TE well as i said i would like to see Winslow. there is also tony G and many other trade possiblities.

Unless we bomb the rest of the season

I think he’ll be gone before we get a shot at him

isn´t crabtree a sophomore?

by daveG10 on Dec 2, 2008 12:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

that would be a bigger problem, because he is…either way, I want him wearing midnight green.

by Clyde Simmons on Dec 2, 2008 12:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

just looked it up...

he was redshirted…so he is Draft eligible. You have to be out of highschool for at least 3 years before you can be drafted.

by Clyde Simmons on Dec 2, 2008 12:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

with 2 first round picks im sure we can make some sort of deal. i say a 1st and lito for a high first.

by NickPampani on Dec 2, 2008 12:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i dunno…I think there would have to be a lot of Hype to have him go as high as Calvin Johnson. WR have been getting drafted later and later in drafts. Look at last years class, everyone thought Limas Sweed, Malcolm Kelly and DJax would go in the first round. That obviously did not happen.

by Clyde Simmons on Dec 2, 2008 12:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yup, yup

I would love to see CrabTree, but he might not even come out. He was redshirted and is considered a sothmore, but he is actually a junior from what I understand. But I may be wrong. He will likely go top 5 if he does come out.

hmm

I don’t see Hank going anywhere, he’s made some big plays for us this year, is our biggest receiver, and has potential. I don’t see us trading for a big name free agent either.

My guess is we get rid of LJ for yet another draft pick (low round?), draft a TE to compete with Celek, and maybe draft another WR in a later round, who finally pushes Lewis off the roster (he is still on it at this point, right?)

by keithk on Dec 2, 2008 12:38 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

first off you dont trade for a free agent

second LJ doesntr have a conract so in order to trade him we will need to sign him first.

and as for trading both tony G and Winslow want out of their teams and we can use them both

Guys

Why the FUCK would we use 2 first round picks on one WR? WR isn’t even our most glaring need!! For fucks sakes!!!

shut up joe…your such a downer. A man can’t dream of crabs and trees anymore?

by Clyde Simmons on Dec 2, 2008 1:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Do you want to dream and be like the lions using all their high picks on WRs? We need lineman, a safety, a TE… Drafting crab tree doesn’t help anything. We have one of the most productive rookie WRs in NFL history

by Joe_D on Dec 2, 2008 1:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

desean's good, he's solid, he's having a spectacular season...

based off what rookie wrs have done before him…but….does anyone else think he’s one hit away from his death during a game? i see ‘nagging’ injuries (see Brian Westbrook, Reggie Bush) in his career that could slow him down. but hey, i hope not.

by damonmoore43 on Dec 2, 2008 1:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

WR situation

There is no way Michael Crabtree is going to be available to the eagles who will have 2 first round picks between 18-28. I believe Desean is the next steve smith, look at their size and look at Deseans first year numbers and they are mighty similar to Steve Smiths second year numbers (with 4 reamaining games). Wide receiver is not a position the eagles will target with their first round picks. I would like to see them get a lineman Jason Smith, Duke Robinson, or Eugene Monroe (If available) with the first pick. With the second I agree I would like to see Pettigrew or Jermaine Gresham (If he comes out), I would love to see a big bruising TE that can catch and run and block.

by Go-Green on Dec 6, 2008 4:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you don’t need a safety in the first round either and you have 2 first round picks i agree we should use one on a TE and i believe brandon pettigrew could be our guy. however if crabtree goes to the draft and is available it would be foolish to not take him as he may be one of the most talented players in the draft.

how many teams right now are kicking themselves for not drafting either eddie royal or desean and letting them go as far as they did

by 0sirys on Dec 2, 2008 1:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

YES it would

How did drafting AWESOME WR after awesome WR work out for the lions? come on man!@!! now im more glad than ever philly fans are NOT gms lol

by Joe_D on Dec 2, 2008 6:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

the lions are a poor case study because they did shit with the rest of their picks in those 5 drafts. we are not talking burning 5 top 5 picks in 5 years on receivers. we’re talking about picking up a good receiver that could help our team. OL is deep once again this so you can get good linemen in the second and third rounds. if crabtree is available late in the first round you take him no questions asked, because he is that bigger possession guy you need for the futre with desean. you don’t have to worry about it tho joe because he won’t be there if he comes out of school. noone is saying they wouldn’t take linemen or even a safety somewhere in the draft you have to look at value if you pinpoint position rather than talent vs. pick value you wind up with a pretty crappy team too.

by 0sirys on Dec 2, 2008 9:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

First off…we will never draft a safety in the first round. NEVER NEVER NEVER. You can quote me on that.

second off: using the lions to justify not taking a great player because he is a WR is dumb. lets think about another team….called the Colts, who have taken Anthony Gonzlazez, Marvin Harrison, and Reggie Wayne in the first round. yeah…thats what I thought. If the lions drafted anyone else good you would be singing a different tune about them.

Third: Crabtree projects to be a star in this league. If we can get him without trading up then we have plenty of draft picks/[prospects to fill the needs u listed.

Now stop being a downer you Andy hater.

we should

Make a move for winslow… even though I am a Cleveland native (and browns fan), I am sad to see all his talent go to waste, and I would love to see him go to my other favorite team :) It would have to be a trade, as he is not yet a FA, I’m sure a 3rd round pick would appease the browns, maybe throw lito in there and trade a 4th instead of a 3rd, i dont know

bring in HOUSH, seriously the bengals blow, hes better than chad johnson (remember all the raves about bringing him here?), and would be amazing here, plus he’s a free agent we just gotta give him a call at midnight

Draft Picks:
1st round:
Otackle
Safety
2nd round:
Otackle
3rd round:
TE/big running back

^^obviously i’m probably wrong with about half of what i said, its just my opinion on the fly

WHY IS EVERYONE ASKING FOR A SAFTEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q is playing great and demps was drafted high to learn from Dawkins. our system is way to complicated to bring someone in and him start right away let the kid learn if in 2 years he unproductive then start looking again

by NickPampani on Dec 2, 2008 4:18 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

not to mention demps was good last week

by 0sirys on Dec 2, 2008 4:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

because we would only have mikell and demps as our only safeties after dawk retires… considine blows hes only useful for special teams, so it would be nice to have another solid player in case of injury

by Manoovi on Dec 2, 2008 4:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yes but i have never hear of

drafting someone in the 1st round or second like some people are sugesting with the intention of being a backup. what we do then is that we look at the free agent pool to find someone who is maybe allitle past their prime of had an injury problem to become a back up. or we find someone like Q who just got the short straw the last couple years but has develped. also alot of time an older corner becomes a saftey somewhat like troy vincent did

by NickPampani on Dec 2, 2008 5:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i really think that demps is going to be something special

Look, our star RB is nowhere near 100%, our backup RB is out, and our 3rd string RB goes down when defenders blow in his general direction.

by Remis on Dec 2, 2008 4:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

he seemed to play well in the few plays at corner in the cards game, he needs to beef up a little though

by Manoovi on Dec 2, 2008 4:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Demps has a lot of upside, but we’d need to see him in a starting role before we can say he’s the heir apparent to one of the best safeties ever to play the game.

by jaws1385 on Dec 2, 2008 6:04 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i should also see him play atleast 1 game before we rule him out of a starting possition

by NickPampani on Dec 2, 2008 9:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i like him, he was one of the steals in my opinion… a returner and a (from what we have seen) a valuable D-back who can play safetly and corner, but remember Jack I. I really think we give up Lito for a higher pick IFFFF crabtree comes out and then have a big Cravbtree, small DJack for the next Housh-Ocho-Cinco tandem, back to Jack I he was a projected 1sty befor his injury so i like to see what he could do, taking ovr for lito, the fact is evryone talkin bout McNabb leaving i see Lito leaving B4 MAc

by XxBleedGreen5xX on Dec 3, 2008 5:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

wow

JJ doesnt want a head coaching job. dont you think the one of the best deffensive minds would of had an offer already and why would an assistant coach of a super bowl team go to an other team that is “rebuilding” for the same possition his next stop is a head coach unless coughlen leaves. and i want marty gone. Why do you think we have seen no development out of our young offensive players. name one guy in the last 3 years that developed well and dont you dare say jackson because coming out of college he was given the title the most pro ready player of the entire draft.

by NickPampani on Dec 3, 2008 5:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

If I’m correct, Spagnoulo would have to take a job as a head coach to leave the Giants if he is under contract. You can’t make a lateral move if you are under contract, it has to be a promotion. Like position coach to coordinator or coordinator to head coach.

by Baron Dainer Von Tresvant on Dec 5, 2008 10:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hard to Say

You can never trust what Andy and Co. say about the receiving corps; they continually say that they’re happy with the way things are, and Andy did it again just recently. But before the season started, they made an offer for Randy Moss and coveted Larry Fitzgerald. They inquired about Chad Johnson and Roy Williams. Just a few weeks ago, they made an offer for Tony Gonzalez and inquired about Kellen Winslow. It’s difficult to gauge what will ultimately happen, but I think they will at least make a play for whatever big-name receiver hits the market next year. The draft isn’t deep in WRs (Crabtree is the marquee name), but they might follow other teams’ examples (see Pittsburgh with Heath Miller and Chicago with Greg Olsen) and pick up a stud TE like Brandon Pettigrew (which I would take over Winslow because Winslow is a headcase). There is talk that Vernon Davis wants out of San Fran, and he’d be a welcome addition. Only time will tell, but I think Andy, if he sticks around, will endeavour to be more aggressive in order to remain secure in his job. That means actually using our first-round picks and following through on signing a huge offensive threat. And if Baskett ends up leaving, we’ll definitely need a tall receiver to take his place.

THIS IS EASY first round is gonna be a tackle off tops we have lots of guys that played pretty damn good inside we need a tackle or put Justice back out there . we also need a TE . after that its tricky if considine is gonna be there they wont get a safty , if they dnt drop reggie we wont be gettin a WR early thats. yea and BUC might be leaving also i could see a running back a li later maybe 3rd rnd

NOT VERY!!!! I understand this city ahs been plagued with bad WRs this decade but WRs aren’t everything! I much rather take O lineman, and even another stud D lineman early in the draft… Even a TE…ANYTHING but a WR

This is how a see our Draft next season.

We will shop a First Pick for Boldin, Hush, or Winslow. The very last pick of the NFL draft will belong to the Eagles and we will use it to draft a OL. Second Round will see either a TE or a Safety. Third will see a LB or a DE. Fourth will see a WR or OL….

no way we give up a 1st rounder for housh…..hes only got a few more years left in him.

(see i told ya cool rockin daddy, the guys a nut case) totally forgot that they will be FAs. I might also step away from the first pick for Winslow. maybe a second. I would like to see us draft a TE maybe in the first. a bruiser in the 2nd or 3rd round might be acceptable

Wideouts next year

Will be the same six guys, or else five of the same guys with someone like Lewis or Avant departing for elsewhere.

by Andrew B on Dec 2, 2008 9:23 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

i don´t think that avant is heading elsewhere! i think that this is lewis last season in philly and maybe brown will be involved in a trade!

by daveG10 on Dec 2, 2008 9:35 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Will be the same, for the most part

I’d have no problem if they stayed with the same bunch. I’m coming around to the thinking that DeSean Jackson is a true #1 receiver. I’m thinking he could be a more versatile Santana Moss.

I think the one change could be Greg Lewis will be out and replaced by Willie Reid. Reid is currently on IR. My understanding is that Willie Reid can return punts. My thinking is that DeSean will be used more as a WR and much less returning punts. Willie Reid will be kept around to return punts and be a 5th/6th WR.
