Giants @ Eagles 2nd half open thread

Giants up 20-17 at the half. It's been a game of mistakes for either side.

Still anyone's game.

Herremans is back in the game. I guess his punishment is over.

Demps has atoned somewhat for that costly fumble.

+1 MR JACKSON

i was about to jump off of wachovia center but one of akers’ kicks smacked me right in the face and knocked me backwards…

Nice start to this half.

First 20 minutes just lulling them into a false sense of confidence maybe?

Good game plan!

Westbrook just reminded those chumps

to get in the weight room later this week.

Nice effort.

Wow. How are we winning this game?

by FuquaManuel on Nov 9, 2008 10:13 PM EST reply actions

I’m saying. If you would’ve turned this one with 5 minutes to go in the first half, you would think the Eagles are playing a great game.

by D3Keith on Nov 9, 2008 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

anybody's game still

just feels like if we had pocession more, we’d be in control. giants have had the ball for what seems forever.
we’re not stopping them at all offensively. their running and passing freely. its disheartening to watch.
we’re stopping ourselves offensively….as usual
really wish we had that demps return fumble back. he’s determined to make up for it looking at his next couple returns.

4th and 26!!!!

If the crowd can really get behind the D, i think they can get another 3 & out. we can dream, can’t we?? 8-)

Wow, after an awful start

the Eagles are leading.

The NFL tears me up.

by Nah_Roots on Nov 9, 2008 10:14 PM EST reply actions

Somebody woke up!

McNabb is on fire. Time to get BWest touching the ball. Now D’s turn.

by phillynyc on Nov 9, 2008 10:14 PM EST reply actions

Baskett needs to play more. All he does is catch the ball and block superbly on the outside. Please Andy, play Hank Baskett!!

Woah

Just got back, we scored??

by ajay on Nov 9, 2008 10:16 PM EST reply actions

Yeah. Didn’t resemble the first half at all.

Demps nice KOR. LJ caught a pass. Westbrook runs. McNabb touch pass on the TD to Baskett.

wish we could stop the run better

I don’t know why the Giants would bother passing after what they’ve seen so far. Gashing the D.

by D3Keith on Nov 9, 2008 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

Wow. Apparently they weren’t talking about stopping the run at halftime. This is atrocious.

that jacobs must be a horse to take down

i was about to jump off of wachovia center but one of akers’ kicks smacked me right in the face and knocked me backwards…

by EAGLE_MAN71 on Nov 9, 2008 10:20 PM EST reply actions

It’s probably easier if he doesn’t get a full head of steam through a wide-open hole.

But I’m no coach or anything.

by D3Keith on Nov 9, 2008 10:21 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly. Any back who gets through the first line untouched is going to be tough to deal with. Jacobs is even tougher… but the problem is the same. We need to stop them at the line. Jacobs doesn’t have the speed or agility to bounce it outside or change direction a ton if he’s met at the point of attack.

by JasonB on Nov 9, 2008 10:24 PM EST up reply actions

Honestly though...

They have Jacobs and Ward
We have Westbrook and Buckhalter

Couldn’t we be doing this if we made an effort? If Andy cared about running the ball?

330 a man on the OL too.

that should put them down to 1 TO left

by 0sirys on Nov 9, 2008 10:33 PM EST reply actions

They might get this call back because his foot may have been behind the line of scrimmage, and it’s only a penalty if your entire body is past. Don’t be surprised if this doesn’t go our way.

by JasonB on Nov 9, 2008 10:36 PM EST reply actions

Hey, if the Giants want to take their chances passing

from the 3 instead of running Jacobs, I can live with that.

Man

That was a bad bounce for us.

by ajay on Nov 9, 2008 10:36 PM EST reply actions

Defense should really be ashamed of themselves after that miserable drive. Couldn’t get a single fucking stop on third down.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 9, 2008 10:37 PM EST reply actions

this is unreal. completely unreal. i feel like we are victimized by one or more bad calls every, single week.

by MetroGlobe on Nov 9, 2008 10:37 PM EST reply actions

really? I usually feel like we are victimized by the inconsistent play of a team that can’t make up its mind if it wants to be good on offense, defense, special teams, none of the above, or some combination of the three.

No offense

But the refs have not been the problem tonight, guys.

Even if they blew that very important call … wasn’t exactly like they just ended up in the red zone by magic.

by D3Keith on Nov 9, 2008 10:40 PM EST reply actions

that eli over-the-line throw, and then the very next one where Boss dropped it in the end zone – they both point to the fact that we cannot or willnot cover tight ends. they’re so open on us, that it’s as if they have 12 men on the field versus our 11.

by ajay on Nov 9, 2008 10:45 PM EST reply actions

If we don’t get a stop here I think it’s over.

Like I have said before, this team has serious consistency issues on both sides of the ball and special teams. Every week there is a different issue. I wish for once they could play 60 minutes of good football on both sides of the ball.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 9, 2008 10:46 PM EST reply actions

That’s what I told the Giants fans who were wondering if I was all hyped for this game.

Haven’t really seen my team put 60 together, not sure why I’d expect it now, but if they do, they can beat anyone.

Eli and their O-Line

used to be their weakness. Now I think those are their strengths.

The blitzes don’t really fluster him and the line is mauling us on run plays.

by D3Keith on Nov 9, 2008 10:50 PM EST reply actions

I’ve had that thought.

Who would be OC though? Because that’s basically a wash at DC, so the key is who calls plays. And if they dump or keep McNabb.

4 mins. is a lot, 1 TO and the warning … but the thing is they are not going to stop the run anyway, so basically we’re screwed if they kick.

why Andy Reid doesn’t devote any resources to developing a power running game as an a second mode of attack is beyond me. all the other good teams in the NFL rely on this for success. but as per usual with Andy, he is waaayy slow on the uptake.

by MetroGlobe on Nov 9, 2008 11:49 PM EST reply actions

it’s true, but it sucks. the formula for success in this league has changed. it’s not 1993 anymore. when’s the last time a team that relies solely on the vaunted “west coast offense” has won a super bowl?

times, they are a changin’. ot appears Andy is going to remain on the wrong side of that curve.

by MetroGlobe on Nov 9, 2008 11:55 PM EST up reply actions

The last team was the Buccaneers

Of course, that one is questionable considering the Raiders never did much to change Jon Gruden’s offense from the previous year when he was the Raiders’ coach. That’s why you had Rich Gannon throwing to Bucs defenders over and over again.

The Broncos won two in a row with a WCO, but they had Terrell Davis and they were committed to the run. But you are right – the pure WCO doesn’t win anymore.

I think it was Bill Simmons who said...

…We beat bad teams, lose to good ones.

I think we’ll all feel better if we all go kill Tiki. We’ll have to kill Ronde too, just to make sure they’re not fooling us.

good teams win close games. we beat st. louis, san fran, pitt, falcons and seahawks all by more than 1 score. we lost to dallas, bears, skins and giants by less than 1 score. we have lost 4 games by 19 total points. we are so close to being good…but just not quite there. this is killing me slowly. 1 year of this is tough. 2 years in a row is worth cancelling direct TV’s NFL ticket for….

Giants fan here

who lives in DC, so I’m intimately familiar with both the Giants and the Redskins. You guys are definitely better than the Skins. I really think you’re the 2nd best team in the NFC. This was a tough loss for you, but I can see you going 5-2 the rest of the way and making the playoffs, which is really all that matters (look at us last year). Good luck the rest of the way (except our rematch in the Meadowlands), and please beat out the Cowboys!
