Who do you replace Andy Reid with? Well let me tell you!
I do not want to replace him with Brian Billick. Billick seemed a bit spent at the end of his tenure and even more arrogant than Andy. Cowher could be another Mike Ditka. Really good with is first team, but not so good the second time around. Plus, I'm not a fan of recycling coaches. So, here are my ideas:
1. Josh McDaniels - Offensive coordinator and QB coach for the Patriots. Was a personnel assistant in the Patriot's scouting department, so he has an ability to judge talent which really intrigues me. Personnel decisions seem to be a weakness with Reid and the Eagles seem to love to eventually give that responsibility to their head coach. It happened with both Reid and Ray Rhoades. He's been with the Patriots for 8 years, so he has experience with a winning pro organization. As QB coach, he seems to be doing a good job with Matt Cassel, and you have to be impressed with that.
2. Steve Spagnuolo - Defensive coordinator for the Giants. He's probably the sexy pick at this point. Do I really need to elaborate on this guy?
3. Rex Ryan - Currently defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. Earned 2006 NFL assistant coach of the year honors from Pro Football Weekly. Was an assistant on the Ravens' Super Bowl team. Has 22 years of coaching experience, including 12 in the NFL. The Ravens are currently ranked #2 in overall defense and have allowed an average of only 17 points per game. Plus, he's Buddy's kid, so there's something kinda cool about that.
4. Jeff Davison - Currently offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. went throug a disaster at QB last season with the Panthers and managed to have a very good running attack. A coach who values the running game? Interesting.... Spent 1997-2004 as an assistant on the Patriots. Again, experience with a Super Bowl winning organization. He may not be a real head coaching candidate at this point. But, if Reid is brought back for next season, I'd definitely keep my eye on Davison.
For some ideas on assistants - I'm willing to bet that Marvin Lewis will be fired as the Bengals head coach. I'd love to bring him in as defensive coordinator. There's also a chance that Charlie Weiss will be available after this season. I'd be interested in Charlie as offensive coordinator, especially if Josh McDaniels would be the coach. Probably a pipe dream to get either if not both Lewis and Weiss but I can dream, can't I? If not, I know the Eagles are really high on Pat Shurmur as are some other teams. I'm also making a big push for Jerry Rice as receivers coach.

spagnuolo fixes none of our problems. and before you tell me i am wrong explain to me in what way he fixes anything going wrong on offense (where the bulk of our problems are). and if you say “well he can hire a coordinator” then i say to you i believe marty is the problem in the first place and andy should dump him and get someone else anyway
really i have no problem with spags. i think he is great i really admire what the guy has done in NY but he is not the answer for the eagles
Spags doesn't help you with the offense,
Plus you still have Jim Johson who Shurmur will likely keep.

You don't have to hire a former offensive coordinator as head coach to fix the offense
What Spags could bring to the Eagles to help the offense is a new perspective. I think Reid has lost a bit of his perspective and places no importance on running the ball. Reid wants to simply pass his way out of the current mess that is the Eagles offense. Spags saw what a kick-ass running game can do to help a team win a Super Bowl. If Spagnuolo states that his philosophy on offense is to bring a balanced attack that can run with power, he can still be effective by finding an offensive coordinator who shares that view and can implement the schemes. You don’t think the Eagles defense has been good because Reid knows how to scheme on defense, do you? So, yes bringing in the right coordinator with the right philosophy would be the answer.

another thought
Any thought on just bumping up Pat Shurmur as H.C. and Mark Wipple as O.C. and dumping Reid and Marty?

Pat Shurmur is the likely Candidate.

McDaniels is an good suggestion
Cowher still appeals to me but you brought up a good choice in Josh McDaniels. As defense if our strength, hiring a guy from the offense would address our biggest weakness and you leave the defense alone and let JJ do his thing. Plus he has experience coaching on both sides of the ball and he’s young. If the Eagles have to do serious rebuilding, I don’t think Cowher would want the job anyway. You need someone looking to prove himself with lots of energy.
One thing I think the Eagles have to do at this point… separate the HC and GM position. Don’t give one man that much power to make/break your team.
I agree…hiring a patriots scouting director and QB coach would be awesome…no team drafts better.
You would have to be sure of how long JJ will be around first off, and second that he would stay if Reid left. He has been with Reid his entire Eagles career.

I see
no reason why cowher couldn’t come in and change the mind set of this team. Instill a little bit of nastiness and maybe run the damn ball.
This team is built for West Coast offense, Cowher is like Tuna, this is not
the Kind of Physical team he likes, he likes a running team, obviously we are not that.
I would love Gruden, but he is still with the Buccs and has no plans on leaving…

Clyde has a point
And JJ is as old as dirt, so he might not want to continue under a new guy.
smh
bring in marvin lewis as defensive coordinator and let jim johnson go? that is easily the stupidest thing i have EVER read on this site.
4th and 26!!!!
usualy
coaches dont go ahead with the new coach when the old one if fired
Why is that so stupid?
I’m not saying you fire Jim Johnson and keep Reid. If Johnson would stay if Reid were to be fired, that would be ideal. But, typically when the head coach is fired, the coordinators go with him. It has happened, but it usually isn’t the norm. Would Johnson want to stay if Reid were fired? Johnson will turn 68 in the offseason. He might not want to stay without Reid.
It isn’t unheard of that a head coach is fired and the next season he becomes a coordinator with another team. Bud Carson was fired as head coach by the Browns and was the Eagles defensive coordinator the next season. That worked out pretty well. Ray Rhodes was fired from the Packers and went on to become the defensive coordinator for the Redskins. Going back aways, Marion Campbell was fired as head coach of the Falcons and became defensive coordinator of the Eagles. Campbell worked out very well as the defensive coordinator for the Eagles in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Martz was fired from the Rams and became coordinator for the 49ers, though that team has been a bit of a disaster.
Don’t forget, Marvin Lewis was an excellent defensive coordinator before he became the head coach with the Bengals. The Ravens won the Super Bowl primarily because Lewis’ defense was so good while Brian Billick’s offense struggled. You could do far worse than Marvin Lewis as a defensive coordinator.

Front -office sources fault line, receivers
Yesterday’s Inquirer has an article where the front office basically says Andy Reid is a quality Head Coach and has sufficient talent in the locker room. So it sounds like the front office is going to stay with him.
If Andy does somehow blow it for the rest of the year and the front office would make a change, maybe its best we go with someone young and hungry who’d be a workaholic and want to prove himself. Someone in the image of a Gruden, Harbaugh or Spags. Gee, we had all those guys on our staff, didn’t we?
we'll see reid and mcnabb next year, as it should be
reid is the most successful coach in eagle history. 102-67-1. from 99 he has taken us to the playoffs 2000-01-02-03-04and06. we were nfc e champs all of them and conf champs 03 we made only our 2nd superbowl appearance ever 04 and lost to n.e 24-21. reid did all this with mcnabb as qb .
mcnabb is franchise leader in carreer attempts, compleftions, yds and tds (wlith p manning only qb to lead current team in al l 4.mcnabb is the all time td pass leader and 1of4 qbs to take their team to 4 consec. conf. champ. games etc.
the eagles had 4 winning coaches since the super bowl was started, including reid, vermeil was next to reid winning 57-61 from 76to 82 3 post season appearances a superbowl appearance loss to oakland 27-10 (our only other one)
ryan won 43-38-1from 86to 90 and playoffs 88(nfc e champs) and 90.
kotite won 37-29 from 91 to 94 playoffs 92.
rhodes had a losing record 30-36 from 95to98 playoffs 95 and 96.
reid has had me cheering for my team longer than any other coach. we have a few things to get together.
after our win over the cards. do you feel better, our running game was effective, our passing game was effective. still mcnabb was booed on his first incompletion. get a life get ano’ther team, stop hating on my team.
