Setting roster shakeups straight
Over the past couple of days we seen a couple of changes to the Eagles roster. With the short week, I thought it would be smart to try and get handle on what we will see and what we could see. So here goes...
- Before Sunday's game Omar Gaither was benched in favor of Akeem Jordan. Jordan will retain the starting WILL LB job.
- LJ Smith was benched in favor of Brent Celek, but Celek dropped a couple passes and LJ Smith has regained the starting TE job for Thursday.
- At halftime of the Ravens game we all know Donovan McNabb was benched in favor of Kevin Kolb, but McNabb will start Thursday.
- As I posted earlier, Correll Buckhalter will miss the Thanksgiving game and Lorenzo Booker will be activated in his place.
- There's also some reports that Kyle Eckel, who signed a few weeks ago, could also see his first action. Whether it's replacing Dan Klecko at FB or serving as the 3rd RB remains to be seen.
We'll keep an eye out for any more changes...

Why was Omar benched? Did i miss something?
and I thought Klecko had a half decent day against balitmore…

Klecko did fine, but he’s still not really a fullback… also he was doing extremely well on the defensive side of the ball. I would rather Eckel in there if he’s up to speed and rotate Klecko back to D.
No idea about Gaither. There’s speculation that we’re getting ready to move on without him next year since he turned down the contract extension.

There are also rumblings that Gaither is contact averse – not good for a LB

He caught some passes… but I saw him whiff on several blocks. He’s just not a FB.

Celek
Celek not only dropped some balls, but he whiffed on some blocks too. I’m less and less optimistic that he’s any kind of long term solution at tight end.

Is it too late to sign Shaun Alexander?

Not that he would get any carries with this offense…

The irony ...
is that Klecko was our leading receiver at the half of last Sunday’s game. But he’s still not a fullback.
Who the hell is Kyle Eckel?
It’s a mystery to me as to why Gaither lost his starting job, but cavortingeagle’s speculation that it has to do with him refusing the contract extension makes sense . It’s just like that mysterious ‘coaches suspension’ of Herremans prior to the Cincy game. My guess is Herremans cut in front of Reid at the buffet line.
It sucks that LJ is back to starting. While Celek missed some blocks and dropped a few passes, I’d rather see him than LJ. And what have you got to lose by starting Kolb and seeing what he can do?

ya know... odd side point
We as fans sometimes remind of the annoying parents i used to have to deal with when i coached high school basketball… They were so sure they knew what the best move was, and they WERE always wrong.
The never saw their kid dog it in practice, or see the attitudes that were given.
All I’m saying is that we’re niave if we think we REALLY know whats going on

Great point
and being a high school strength coach, I can totally identify with what you just said :)
Guys also remember it’s never as great as it seems and it’s never as bad as it seems.
Obviously, playoffs are out of the picture but with a young, solid defense, lots of cap, and 2 first round picks I doubt we’re looking at a dark age here.

agree
but i will NEVER say the season is over until we are MATHMATICALLY out.
06 taught me that… everyone forget how distraught we were that year until i turned around…
And don’t say “garcia’s not here”
It wasnt all him. The team started to believe
