The Eagles Next Quarterback will Decide the Teams Future
Donovan Mcnabb’s stay at Philadelphia will be over at the end of the NFL season. The Eagles need to decide who is going to take over as the Eagles next starting quarterback. Kevin Kolb is now waiting for his chance. However, the Eagles shouldn’t put all their hope in Kolb. They need to draft another quarterback or sign a free agent.
First, Kevin Kolb looks like he might possibility have a decent career in the NFL. He did have an impressive college career at the University of Houston. He ended his college career by throwing for 12,964 total passing yards. He also had 85 touchdown passes. Kevin is a big quarterback to at 6-3 220, so he has enough size to play at this level. " Kolb has good arm strength. But he has to work on his accuracy and gripping the football correctly" (www.fftoolbox.com). Talent only though doesn’t mean that he can survive in the league or have a good career in the NFL.
Next, the Philadelphia Eagles should also should draft a rookie or sign a free agent. If wouldn’t be wise to gamble the whole franchise on one young quarterback. You need a backup plan just in case he doesn’t pan out or if he gets injured. There are some decent quarterbacks in the upcoming draft such as Colt McCoy, Hunter Cantwell, Sam Bradford, Matt Stafford and Tim Tebow (maybe will we get lucky). Most of these quarterbacks have just as much potential if not more than Kevin Kolb.
Furthermore, Training camp would be more interesting by having two young talents competing against each other. They would both work harder by having to compete for a starting position against someone of equal talent level. Additionally, if the coach picks the wrong quarterback they will have someone else to go to if the team is heading in the wrong direction. And picking the right quarterback will dictate whether or not the Eagles can be an elite team in the NFL again.

I agree. The Packers did just that last year by drafting Brohm, even though Rodgers was the heir apparent.
How the Packers situation differs from the Eagles in that the Pack was coming off a 13-3 season and had a decent roster. The Eagles are not so fortunate and have many glaring needs so I am not sure it will be feasible for them to draft a QB in the first 3 rounds.
If Kolb is penciled in for next year, then a more likely scenario is for the Eagles to bring in a veteran backup, and have a late round or free agent project QB is the 3rd string.
