Trading McNabb
Okay, there are obviously a lot of people on here who want to trade McNabb. I'm not one of them but that isn't what this post is about. I'm just envisioning what could happen if we DO get rid of McNabb. A few points:
1.) He carries a roughly 10 million dollar salary cap number next year. We don't owe him any guaranteed money (from what I understand).
2.) He's turning 32 on Tuesday. I don't need to remind you of his injury history.
Now, that being said, what do you guys think we could get if we trade him? A team like Chicago or Detroit or Minnesota (basically the entire NFC North) would have to be at least interested. Maybe we could get a first rounder in return? And if so...we'd have three next year. And, from my perspective as a McNabb fan, he might be put in a better position to succeed elsewhere.
Just thinking out loud but what do you guys think?

Because 32 is so goddamned old at QB. I mean, you can’t even name a half decent QB 32 or older!

Except Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Jeff Garcia, Kerry Collins, etc etc etc. Age has nothing to do with it right now.

Hold up
I never suggested that 32 was too old to be an effective QB. I also mentioned his numerous injuries. And I didn’t need to reiterate his declining production over the past few years. Maybe I phrased it wrong but I hope you know what the gist of my post was about…

PLUS
I meant it from the sense of the organization. You don’t think they’re worried about his age – even if it’s unfair or unimportant?

Why would they be? At 32 the guy has a minimum of 4 years left. Like I said, it has nothing to do with his age. They’re worried about all the other shit.

This question was the 1st post I made on the Philly.com forum
That was several years ago & I’m still not sure about the answer. I think what happens the rest of the year will do a lot to determine McNabb’s price tag. If Reid keeps McNabb on the bench while the Eagles are still technically in contention it probably prevents the Eagles from getting a 1st round pick. Not playing McNabb again means the Eagles are selling low… which is almost be definition, stupid.
Let McNabb pad his numbers until the Eagles get eliminated from the WC. Then turn around and trade him next year for a 1st round pick + change.

Minnesota will probably show interest
I don’t know what they would be willing to give up, but he may be a good fit there.

McNabb Haters
All you McNabb haters need to take a chill.
Take a second and think about all the success we had over the last 10 years. Do you think it is coincidence that McNabb was our QB? You gonna judge his whole carreer on the fact that he hasn’t won the big game. Marino never won the big game either.
All QB’s have slumps. He is in one and right now….is not getting the support of good play calling or a solid running game to take the preasure off of him.

the bad play calling and non existant running game is true but his accuracy in the last few games has been atrocious. that can’t be blamed on anyone but mcnabb. It just doesn’t even seem like mcnabb is even trying. here’s an idea, trade mcnabb, fire reid, fire morningweg and heck fire the rest of the offensive coach’s. Hire a new coach, bring in some competition for kolb, draft a power running back to compliment westbrook(he might be able to stay healthy), replace a few older players and let the rest of the rebuilding begin, cause its time

I tell you what, if McNabb goes to Minnesota, I immediately become a Vikings fan and burn all my Eagles shit.

McNabb
Many of you forget what it is like to have a completely incompetent QB. We have been spoiled with so much success out of McNabb for the last 10 years.
If he goes next year, you guys will all be crying while we go through the growing pains of Kolb.
Was it just me, or did anyone else think he did not look like he had the arm strength to make many of the throws he needed to make?

agreed
all these people calling for McNabbs head…how quickly we forget the days of Ty Detmer, Bobby Hoying, Doug Pederson and the like. Quarterback is by far the hardest position to evaluate, more likely then not it will take years upon years to find another one as good as McNabb.
McNabb definitely has issues. right now hes playing with zero confidence, he holds onto the ball for way to long, he is erratic in the pocket, and hes making terrible decisions with the football (something hes avoided in the past).
but in the end McNabb really is a victim of this system. the Eagles are built like a college team. they are undersized at nearly every position, the playcalling calls for McNabb to sit in shotgun all day and throw 4 yard out passes to wide recievers who cant get off the line of scrimmage. defenses know this and they stack the box accordingly (much like what Oklahoma did to texas tech). occasionaly our speed guys get loose over the top and thats where our big plays (and misleading offensive numbers) come from. Our tight ends cant block (or catch) for shit and our tackles are old. the eagles offense is the easiest to defend in the NFL right now. any kind of blitz destroys the play because we never leave extra blockers in. the eagles offense does not know how to play physical, this has been the case for Reids entire tenure thats why we got mauled by carolina and tampa in those NFC championship games and thats why were struggling today.

I agree as well with the system being the problem, and those who are in the system should not be. So what is the solution? Do we agree that something major needs to be done here? is it Reid to leave or Donovan? We are left with lingering questions that would most likely be answered by a General Manager, enter Andy Reid. This man has too much control over the team and it is hampering what the system is supposed to do. The eagles run a west coast offense that throws the ball all the time to receivers whom are not playmakers. Look how well the team did with TO, yes he was a cancer but look at the production. The team needs a revamping and its difficult to pinpoint where to start. If the team decides to get rid of McNabb, we will have to live with the growing pains of Mr. Kolb, who could look like Flacco and Ryan or like Leaf and Leinhart. If Reid is the one to go then we may have just wasted draft picks on “Andy Reid” guys and may need to rebuild through a new GM and new head coach. Pick your poison!

looking at age is always a mistake
qbs get better the longer their around..i would never draft a qb in the top money rounds when i could get a vet. the ravens wasted 6 years growing Boller when Garcia, Warner were available and vertean D was waiting. stupid stupid stupid to take 5 years out of everyone elses career while you wait for a damn college kid to grow up..and you still don;t know what your getting.

McNabb's age is a factor
The quarterbacks who tend to stay successful after age 32 tend to be pocket passers who have great field vision and excellent or at least very good touch and accuracy. McNabb was a unique talent who compensated for his inaccuaracy by being a devastating scrambler and a real threat to bust big runs. At 32 with his injuries he can’t consistently run any more (although in the games where he showed bursts of his old running game, we hung with strong teams). This exposes his weakness as a pocket passer. It’s not all his fault, of course. His receivers don’t help him. The tight ends are worthless. He has no real fullback, and Andy’s offense is still predicated on McNabb being able to run around enough to let the receivers get wide open. But unless McNabb starts to run regularly again, I doubt he’ll ever be anything better than an average QB from here on out. I love what he did for this team in his prime, but at this point if we could get somebody to bite, and get something decent in return, I’d go for it.
