The Kolb era has begun

I'm not saying that it should be this way, but today marked the beginning of the end for Donovan McNabb as the Eagle's QB. He may or may not start on Thursday, and he may or may not have some more good games this year, BUT he won't be in an Eagle uniform in '09.

The Eagles will not make the playoffs this year. Some may still have hope, and as an Eagles fan for over 35 years I hope I'm wrong, but it is what it is. With the exception of the Browns, the rest of our schedule is against better teams. We will finish 3-2, at best, and 8-7-1 will not get us in.

McNabb is scheduled to make $10.36M next year. No team in their right mind would pay that much for a question mark, let alone a back-up, so he is gone. I'd like to see him traded, but my guess is that he'll be released.

I hope Kolb is the answer...

Woah...

…let’s keep some perspective. Now we’re just “releasing” McNabb? That’s crazy.

First off, I hope it’s not the end for DMac, although I think we have severely wasted his talent at times. But second, I think if you ARE going to get rid of him, you will find trade suitors. You might not get the 3 first rounders you desire, but you will still get a good haul for him. Chicago for one would love to have him.

If he wants to play hardball, or other teams want to wait, we’ll have to release him or pay him. The Eagles won’t pay him. Other teams will play the “damaged goods” card and offer low ball and Philly management will play the “we’re insulted” card. You just watch.

As for what we “hope”, that makes no difference. Football is a business. He’s gone before training camp next year. You can take that to the bank.

Also...

…if the offensive philosophy does not change, then we’ll waste whatever talent Kolb might have also.

A New Beginning

I’d like to see Andy get released with Donovan. They are a tandem. They had 10 years together to get the job done and it’s still unfinished. Clean house and give Kolb a supportive coaching staff. Before you McNabb lovers begin to thrash about ask yourself if you are content with what he’s done this year. He hasn’t led the offense and is extremely turnover prone lately. I don’t give a damn what he has accomplished in the past for us because those accomplishments aren’t winning us ball games now. Lurie must allow Kolb to take his lumps now and get into Training Camp with confidence knowing the job is his to lose. As I’ve said numerous times in previous posts, get rid of Considine. They should have kept Moats or Hunt with Considine’s money.

i think kolb has had some valuable learning under mcnabb. he’s no favre, but look at aaron rogers. given no credit in the beginning of the year, and though he may not be throwing 80 yd TD’s every possession, he’s consistently throwing completions, making big plays here and there, and NOT losing the game for the packers…something the eagles need. our D played good enough for us to win today, and our offense hung em out to dry.

700 level stop defending kolb

and start condemning reid…you know it’s a “bitch” move to bench mcnabb and make him a scapegoat.

it’s true. we can’t judge kolb off one game. but we also can’t sit here and act like benching mcnabb is ok after 10 seasons of all he had. he deserves to at least finish the season. are you kidding me? he can’t get 2 more quarters from reid, philly, etc.?

what a shame

stop being a typical stupid eagles fan and judging a player prematurely.

by Joe_D on Nov 23, 2008 9:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you're judging prematurely as well

just in the opposite direction. you say he’s good, and damon says he’s not. both of you are judging at the same time…he just disagrees

by eagleyosh on Nov 23, 2008 10:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

if you think he’s the qb of the future, you think he’s good. you judged him.

by eagleyosh on Nov 23, 2008 11:04 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

no, the typical eagles fan

want people replaced, fired, traded, cut….and that’s what you’re doing by saying Kolb is the future…if you think Kolb is the future…you’re making an ill-fated judgment on McNabb…typical Eagles fan

by damonmoore43 on Nov 23, 2008 11:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

mcnabb has been playing terible. i think if we’re going to make big time changes it has to be at qb. i gree with eskin. mcnab is a great qb but if we HAVE to make big changes QB has to be one of the positions. and listen, eventually you have to be replaced. .

by Joe_D on Nov 24, 2008 8:53 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

mc nabb is done

why would you continue w/ mcnabb? he’s driven this team to a 5-5-1 record. send him and andy to the canadian football league. i’m sick of this mess

by squeaker on Nov 24, 2008 9:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

no. i said i THOUGHT hes going to be good. i never said he was good or bad. others have said he sucks after a half of game that he never even prepped for.

by Joe_D on Nov 24, 2008 8:51 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

if you can’t see reids move today as totally uncalled for and reckless your blind

by raven on Nov 24, 2008 12:10 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

7 turnovers in 3 halves....sounds like someone was sucking

and in the nfl, if you suck, you get benched.
our fans whine a lot. first they want more running, then we run the ball a few times and nothing happens, and we should have thrown it. then they want mcnabb out and kolb in, and now that kolb sucked and mcnabb was benched they whine some more. mcnabb has sucked the past week and a half. he needed to be shown that he needs to step up his game. the fans make benching him for a half a big deal and the end of an era. i see it as a statment by reid to mcnabb to step up his game or else he’ll be riding the bench for some time

by eagleyosh on Nov 24, 2008 12:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i agree

i dont think that ried was saying that kolbs time had come, but more of donny needs to step his game up a notch. Donny probably never thought that the bench was a possiblity til now, so maybe he understands thats now and will perform better….

Look up... get up...Don't ever, ever give up!!

Somebody is stealing from my post!

Instead, you can bet the Eagles will work the phones hard after the season ends, hoping to find a team that has seen the success of so many other 30-something quarterbacks and thinks McNabb can put them over the top (Hello, Minnesota Vikings). And if they can’t deal him, they’ll likely release him – which is what McNabb would want, anyway.

Mark it down. Five games are left in Philadelphia’s season and McNabb’s time in an Eagles uniform.

Dude, get some original material!

Find me one legitimate sports reporter that thinks McNabb will be back next year. Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Have a good cry and get over it.

I’m not sure it’s a good idea to lose him, I just can’t see them bringing him back considering his salary and the current state of things.
