If it were up to me, the aspects of Eagles fans being “hardcore” that I would approve of:
1. being really, really loud when they’re team’s on defense
2. continuing to care and root for the team even when they’re bad
3. great traveling presence at away games

I can do without all the confrontation and fighting and jackassery that went on a lot more the Vet, though.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Couldnt have said it better

Being an ass hurts your fan status i my mind…

Thats why i’ve almost changed my screen name a couple times. to me 700 level wasnt about the jail in the vet…

The confrontation and fighting and jackassery was the stuff that gave us our reputation in the first place…the confrontation and fighting and jackassery is the stuff that gave us our reputation in the first place…and fan can be loud on D…an fan can care when there team is bad…and fan can travel to away games…but only Philadelphia Eagles fans have the intangibles to be the best fans in fooball by truely being hardcore

“Most violent” isn’t part of the reputation I want. It’s a thin line. I don’t want the linc to be a place that gets “taken over” by opposing fans. But I, don’t think anyone should have to be afraid when they go into a stadium unless they bring it upon themselves (which I have definately seen).

Loudest, proudest, ok. I want opposing teams to hate coming to the Linc becaue of how loud it is, not because they think they’re going to get batteries thrown at them. (Special exemption granted for Owens, Terrell).

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

kill me if you want...

but some of the “things” that make us the “best fans” are the things that i hate the most.

I love football, and will die an Eagles fan, but some of the stuff i’ve seen over the years is RETARDED

Being a sociopath doesn't make you a good fan

I don’t think throwing things or beating someone up makes you a hard core fan. It just makes you an ass.

What does it say about a person who feels the need to get drunk out of their mind and beat up another person because they are wearing the opposing team’s colors? Good natured heckling is fine, as is loud cheering or booing. When a “fan” feels violence a throwing things on the field is the way they should behave at a game, they’ve crossed the line into meat-headedness.

I have to disagree with the definition of hardcore fans you posted. To me, being a hardcore Eagles fan was about people spending a decent percentage of their salary on season tickets and religiously going to every game. Hardcore is going to games in freezing temperatures in December when your team is out of playoff contention. Hardcore is waiting in line for 10 minutes at the sinks in the Vet just to take a piss. Hardcore is not throwing batteries or cheering when an opposing player gets hurt (even Irvin). Hell, the only time I ever got into a fight at the Vet was with another Eagles fan who was drunk and being an asshole.

I do miss the mystique of the Vet though. Opposing teams hated coming there, and for good reason. The turf was the worst in the league, hard as a rock and full of dents and crevices. It was just old, nasty and grungy, but it was home.

I’ve been avoiding actually posting in this thread but I do agree with everyone here. Posts like this, parading extreme unruly and violent behavior are the reason that we get all of these stupid stereotypes applied to us. Should we intimidate the opposing fans and players by being loud, constantly hyped up, cheering, celebrating when the Eagles do something good, and getting on them when they screw up? Yes. Should we trash talk with people? Sure. But should people actually be fearful of getting assaulted? No. That’s fucking stupid.

World F*ckin' Champions, indeed...

Agree

Unfortunately, the 11 votes on the poll that want to see the “Hardcore” fans return discourage me. I don’t think acting like a buffoon is a good thing at all.

I have avoided posting here as well. I think our image is tarnished and things like this make it harder to combat that. I spend half of my time defending my under acheiving team and the other half defending the fans I group myself with. I like the knowledgable passionate part of our fandom.

Like Where Your Head's At

We do need to bring back some more of the intimidation factor that we had at the Vet. The old 700-level gang seems like a distant memory. As great a stadium as the Linc is, it doesn’t quite have that concrete-n-steel bleakness that the Vet had (and I’m just talking about the turf). The Linc is one of the loudest stadiums in the league, and the fans are still the best, but the Vet had that extra something…opposing teams absolutely HATED playing there. The Vet’s gone now, but our attitude doesn’t have to change. Other fans will ALWAYS say that we’re animals no matter what, so who cares?
