Philadelphia Eagles at Seattle Seahawks Open Thread

Philadelphia Eagles at Seattle Seahawks, Nov 2, 2008 4:15 PM EST

Cropped-40x40_mediumCropped-40x40_medium

Location: Qwest Field - Seattle, Washington

Time: 4:15 pm E

TV: FOX

Radio: 94.1 WYSP, 610 WIP, Sirius 126

Did you know?

Without Matt Hasselbeck, the Seattle offense has averaged around 200 yards and just 11 first downs per game.

Bottom Line

The Eagles are 6.5 point favorites on the road here. That's pretty big. A loss here against a team that's been ravaged by injuries and has not played well would be a killer blow for our hopes of yet another parade this year... The Eagles are big favorites for a reason, they should win this game.

I have decided to suspend my "why I hate" threads...

will still do them for divisional games

Anybody have the statistic on the number of kickoffs that are deferred by the team winning the coin toss this year? It seems like more teams are deferring this year.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 4:16 PM EST reply actions

Demps should have taken that the distance

The road to victory!

by jayt on Nov 2, 2008 4:17 PM EST reply actions

That was a fucking miserable series. Donovan still can’t throw.

Great job shit heads!

Thank god the Phillies won a championship.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 4:20 PM EST reply actions

I’m not going to panic yet. Nope. Not panicking. Not even a little bit. ALL IS WELL.

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 4:21 PM EST reply actions

Dawk needs to retire

I hate to say it, but its not even debateable

he wouldn’t have been in that position if Lito was covering … not even sure Dawkins in his prime makes that.

that sucks

but it’s very early…

by eagleyosh on Nov 2, 2008 4:22 PM EST reply actions

This is just what I was afraid of… the Eagles are believing their own hype in the media and looking past this team.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 4:23 PM EST reply actions

make that 2 … nice throw McNabb.

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

by Whodie126 on Nov 2, 2008 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

Hard to say that based on one play. But based on the results all season, I would say this team might be a little full of themselves.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

for some reason

JJ pulled sheldon before that play and put in Hanson
odd

by cavortingEagle on Nov 2, 2008 4:24 PM EST reply actions

A Hanson sighting? That’s not good news.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 4:25 PM EST reply actions

Okay. They are looking a mess on offense. This might be REALLY bad.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 4:25 PM EST reply actions

This is the 30th ranked passing defense in the NFL.

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 4:25 PM EST reply actions

tell that to McNabb.

Run the fucking ball you fucking morons!!! It’s the same thing every fucking week. Put the ball in Westbrook’s hands and good things happen. Jesus christ, it’s not that difficult a concept.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 4:26 PM EST reply actions

ITs because we're so predictable

I been saying this for so long … we dont have a balance and we’re not consistent. i said it last week and i was crucified. i hate to say it, but i’m right.

by Joe_D on Nov 2, 2008 4:27 PM EST reply actions

This kills me…every game., every single game we start out like this.

by thwalls on Nov 2, 2008 4:27 PM EST reply actions

we will still win this game

but i’m just tired of this crap every week.

Andy Reid. Bad coach. Never thought I would agree with Bill Simmons, but he is right on that one.

by cavortingEagle on Nov 2, 2008 4:34 PM EST reply actions

Crap… what happened to Curtis there?

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 4:34 PM EST reply actions

H’okay, I ain’t sayin’ we need to see Kolb . . .

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 4:34 PM EST reply actions

0/6? Are you kidding me?

by thwalls on Nov 2, 2008 4:36 PM EST reply actions

Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad.

Turning this off if we see one more series like that. No point in watching this unless they start playing like semi-competent football players on offense.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 4:36 PM EST reply actions

I can’t watch the game, so is it the play calling, the seahawks D being that good, or just McNabb and the offense screwing the pooch??

by thwalls on Nov 2, 2008 4:37 PM EST reply actions

ok..i realize they had 3 possessions and 3 punts but to call on kolb shows your lack of NFL knowledge…i guess the indy should call on there backup qb too because payton is struggling

by Bugzy on Nov 2, 2008 4:37 PM EST reply actions

These are a bunch of second string hacks Defensively for the SeaHags. We should be running all over them.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 4:37 PM EST reply actions

No, McNabb just needs to settle down and complete a few passes. Not ready for Kolb yet.

This is why we needed TE Gonzalez . A good blocking TE would work wonders on this team. So would a true FB.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 4:40 PM EST reply actions

no we need to play fucking football … the pee wee team down the street could do better against this broke ass Seahawks team.

3 3&outs to start the game? A 90 yard TD on the first play from Seneca Freakin Wallace? How can they playing this bad? Is this a Philly thing? Seriously, are there other teams that are more “Jeckyll and Hyde” than the Eagles?

Isn’t it hard to believe this team beat Pittsburgh?

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 4:41 PM EST reply actions

First, Howard isn’t the DL playing offense, that’s Klecko. Second, they’re attacking Lito. Doesn’t say much for your “I deserve to start” argument when they’d rather pick on you than Hanson, Wonder Boy.

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 4:41 PM EST reply actions

its just the first quarter people!!!!!!!
plenty of time left!

by Bugzy on Nov 2, 2008 4:41 PM EST reply actions

Plenty of time left for Seattle to break down our defense and pile on points while our offense re-learns how to play football.

Being realistic. It is also possible that we continue to suck and Seattle plays well. We are not invincible, and thus it is not a guarantee that we will suddenly start playing well. Andy Reid is our coach after all…

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

Fuqua

you know as well as I do that people said the same about Cholly.

"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"

Yes. But criticizing a baseball coach is ridiculous because baseball coaches have far less bearing on the outcome of the game and the performance of their players than do football coaches. Andy Reid is directly responsible for failing to put his players in a position to win.

Yes. Give the ball to westbrook and pass the D-Jax. That is the formula for success these days.

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 5:12 PM EST reply actions

only reason why celek is making plays is because the dfense doesnt focus on him, whereas i think dfecnse would focus on trying to stop lj

I agree w/ you Whodie… Celek>Smith.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 5:13 PM EST reply actions

his catch rate is way higher than lj’s

How much do you wanna bet Andy drafts a Guard and a Tackle with the first round picks he’s hoarding? It’s almost as sure a bet as Andy not choosing a salad with his meal.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 5:19 PM EST reply actions

Hmm, what to do they need? A TE, certainly. I have a man-crush on Gresham from Oklahoma, but he could be a top 10 pick. An RB, but I can’t see them spending a #1 on that. Maybe a FS, pending the development of Demps. A tackle is probably the safest bet, though Dunlap and Herremans both showed promise at LT, there isn’t an obvious option at RT if Runyan retires.

We need Brian Westbrook to do a Subway commercial with Jared Vogel. Everyone who does a commercial with Jared (Ryan Howard, Mike Strahan, Tony Parker) wins a Championship. Jared’s a good luck charm.

Damn~! DJax has got to take better care of that ball! ! ! ! He has too much talent to be making these dumb ass mistakes returning the ball.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 6:28 PM EST reply actions

I know they’re down, but just going back a little bit, why oh why would they have gone for 4th and 10?

by thwalls on Nov 2, 2008 6:30 PM EST reply actions

Because it’s a bit too far for a FG and a bit too close for a punt.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 6:36 PM EST reply actions

Talent is irrelevant. The guy continuously comes up short. Chad Lewis was hardly a great athlete but he was a great weapon.

And with first and goal, they attempt three passes. Have we even seen Buckhalter today?

They are awful in short yardage and “close and late” situations. That will cost you plenty of games in the NFL.

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 6:41 PM EST reply actions

DJax makes me real nervous returning…

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 6:43 PM EST reply actions

by FuquaManuel on Nov 2, 2008 6:47 PM EST reply actions

They’re keying entirely on Westbrook, which has opened up space for Celek.

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 6:47 PM EST reply actions

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 6:53 PM EST reply actions

I’ve never been so happy to see a successful FG while sitting on a 13 point lead in the middle of the 4th quarter.

by Tracer Bullet on Nov 2, 2008 6:53 PM EST reply actions

maybe akers get s confdence going forward

by Bugzy on Nov 2, 2008 6:53 PM EST reply actions

i never am myself….but sometime this year…akers will be called to make a kick…so if he gets to get confidence in a game that we already won…i dont mind

by Bugzy on Nov 2, 2008 6:54 PM EST reply actions

FGs are nice...

…but the score should be, what, 37-7?

by ajay on Nov 2, 2008 6:55 PM EST reply actions

Agreed… we should be destroying this team. But they’re still hanging around. That’s unsettling.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 6:56 PM EST reply actions

at least mcnabb isnt throwing 12 incomplete passes in a row

thats my “glass is half full” mentality there

by midnitegreen on Nov 2, 2008 6:57 PM EST reply actions

HANGING AROUND??/ THEY HAVENT SCORED SINCE THE FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME!!!! what r u talking about!

by Bugzy on Nov 2, 2008 6:57 PM EST reply actions

and now for my “glas is half empty” side

these FG’s are gonna help us against the Giants or Redskins

by midnitegreen on Nov 2, 2008 6:59 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

The Giants will win 31-3 at this rate.

by ajay on Nov 2, 2008 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

by midnitegreen on Nov 2, 2008 7:01 PM EST reply actions

I guess I am being negative… It’ll take 3 TDs at this point to beat us. Just thought we should dominate more given their injuries.

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 7:01 PM EST reply actions

What happened to the eagles from week 1. Id love to see a 80 yard bomb to basket or a 40 yard throw to Desean again.

i'm sooo disappointed in a lot of you

i was reading the comments, but hadn’t logged in to post in response up until this point.
i can’t believe how many switch sider fans we have on this site.
just the ridiculas shit that comes out of your mouths after 1 touchdown on us EARLY in the game is borderline upsetting.

to each your own i suppose…but if your going to be a fan, be a TRUE fucking fan.
i’m not sure which im more pissed about. the dnabb comments or whoever said their going to be a titans fan.

i could make this an essay long post, but i won’t.

i’m disappointed

4th and 26!!!!

so you’ve never gotten pissed off and said something you didn’t actually mean but needed to blow off some steam … I hope I can still sleep tonight knowing you are disappointed in me.

No disrespect intended but people get pissed off and need to yell and scream and rant

I’d sit Westbrook at this point so he’s healthy for NY. Bring on the Midgets!

Did Dick Stockton just say the Cardinals were 2-6?

Signature? SIGNATURE?! Don't talk about SIGNATURE! I just hope I can write a sentence!

Mcnabb has 349 yards passing today, imagine what he could have had if he didnt miss those first 6 passes or something

by midnitegreen on Nov 2, 2008 7:16 PM EST reply actions

That’’s a mistake… Cards are 5-3 now, aren’t they?

by JJinPA on Nov 2, 2008 7:16 PM EST reply actions

yes…people on this site jump to conclusios real early…but most fans do….in all….i didnt do that as i was confident the iggles had this game…BUT we all care bout our team and tats all that counts

by midnitegreen on Nov 2, 2008 7:22 PM EST up reply actions

Congratulations on the win guys, Philly was my pick to go to the NFC Title Game

Please get past the Cowboys permanently.

Meanwhile, every team has a down period, right? Seattle is facing a dark period ahead, not just the rest of the season, but for 4-5 years to come, I can only see 3-13 in the future over the coming years.

I can only think of bad things from that TO – one happened.
Why the hell would you not let the clock run out there?

by cavortingEagle on Nov 2, 2008 7:24 PM EST reply actions

im loggin off…it was a plesure watching the game wit eagles fan! yall enjoy the week….see yall next week against the Gmen!!!

by Bugzy on Nov 2, 2008 7:24 PM EST reply actions

Question

In your opinion, is Brent Celek really good or is Seattle’s pass defense really bad?
I’m inclined towards the first because no matter how bad Seattle’s PD was I doubt LJ could’ve put up these numbers.

by ajay on Nov 2, 2008 7:51 PM EST reply actions

Todd Herremans has as many TDs as TO today.

Tick tick tick…..

C'mon, Andy. I want to riot, too.

by BrianS on Nov 2, 2008 7:54 PM EST reply actions

Real quick hits:

Overall, did what they had to do against a bad team (no offense, SS Reporter).

The slow starts are really concerning me. If they start like this next week they’ll quickly find themselves down 14-0.

Nice to have Kevin Curtis back.

Who the hell is this Bruce Celek guy? (Don’t blame me, blame Mike Quick)

It’s not an Eagles w/o a dumb play from DJ.

What the $#%% was 5 thinking on that INT? Terrible read.

That T.O. by the Seahawks was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. Like one of you said, just one more chance for someone to tear an ACL w/absolutely nothing meaningful that could come from it.

C'mon, Andy. I want to riot, too.

by BrianS on Nov 2, 2008 8:00 PM EST reply actions

not sure I agree with you Brian,
I think our D needs to come out strong against the Gints…
I’d almost be willing to bet that our D outscores the Gnats O next week…
The question then is – Can our O outscore their D…
