Mark Eckel - Interesting Regarding Reid and Holmgren

I read this article by Mark Eckel:

I like Mark, but I really think he made this whole scenario up after a hard night of drinking and eating Doritos. While it's an interesting fantasy, that's all it is. A fantasy. I think it's pretty safe to say this cockamamie scenario won't happen. All that said, what are your thoughts on this article and situation?

A lot of idle speculation

I agree that this is a total fantasy. Mark Eckel shouldn’t waste time with idle speculation with nothing to back it up. Even with the front office issues mentioned in the article, why would Andy Reid give up the head coach job to be an assistant somewhere else? Doesn’t make sense. Andy’s won an NFC championship, so if he left the Eagles, some other team would probably offer him a head coach position.

I do like the idea of Bill Cowher or Steve Spagnuolo taking over. They both have some Eagle roots. They are both good coaches (Cowher might be considered a great coach, since he won a Super Bowl), and either would be a popular pick amongst the fans I think. Forget the whole Holmgren scenario, but that doesn’t mean a coaching change couldn’t happen.

I wouldn’t bet the house on it though.

Reid would be head coach for the 49ers

Actually, Eckel wrote that Holmgren would become GM and Reid would be head coach for the 49ers. It was wild speculation on Eckel’s part.

That said, what did catch my eye in the article was Eckel’s feeling that Banner and Reid were no longer seeing eye to eye. I’d really love to know what Eckel knows about that and if how big the rift is, if there is one. The other thing that caught my eye is that Tom Heckert could be in trouble. While I haven’t been impressed with the job Heckert has done, I would really dread a non-football guy like Howie Roseman being promoted to replace him. If those parts of the article are accurate, I am becoming very worried about the direction the Eagles franchise could be going.
