A TIE? Really?
This team finds new ways to leave our jaws dropped on weekly basis. Not in a million years would anyone have predicted how this one turned out.
A tie. The first in the NFL since 2002.
I'll be back later with my full thoughts... In the meantime, vent your frustration here.
Amazing.

Where on earth do we go from here?
No run blocking. No real running game. Too few Buckhalter touches, too little play action success. McNabb throwing about 2x as many passes as he should.

No surprise you get 3 interceptions with so many throws.

no real running game
we ran the ball 24% of the time…hard to get one going if you ask me. plus, the pass didn’t really set up the run since we didn’t really have much success there…(mcnabb=48% completion percentage with 3 int and a fumble). we didn’t really set ourselves up for much success today

Running Game
There was no running game when it was tried. Its so tiring listen to people complaining about not enough running plays. Until Westbrook broke a late 22 yard run, they were averaging 2 or 3 yards per rush. For the game, they were barely over 3.5 yards per rush.
Westbrook is either injured or weighed down by his wallet.
by Andrew B on Nov 16, 2008 5:16 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
No offense, but they only ran the ball 18 times the entire game and I think they only ran the ball 6 times by halftime. They only gave the ball to Buckhalter for one run the entire game. I hear what you are saying, but you’ve got to try to run the ball more than that to try to establish it. You can’t just do it once and give up. It’s not like the passing game was scorching hot today either.
by Baron Dainer Von Tresvant on Nov 16, 2008 7:46 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
TRY? TRY?
You can’t fucking try to run the fucking ball if you run it on fucking first down and 10 yards and you end up in second down and 9 or 10 or 11 fucking yards every drive?
What the fuck do you want them to do? Run it again and be in 3rd down and fucking 8 or 9 or 10 or 11 or 12 yards every fucking drive?
When does the lack of running production ever get blamed on the fucking incompetent and OFFENSIVE line and the obviously limited and likely declining running back? Coach Reid can’t continue to call plays that don’t fucking work because the fucking players don’t execute and expect to win games.
The fucking whiny OFFENSIVE linemen like John Runyan have been whining for years to the media behind the Coach’s back to “run the ball more”. Well, every time he’s given Runyan what he wants this year with a run right in a critical situation, its been a fucking catastrophe.
Christ Almighty! What the fuck is wrong with you people? Run the ball more because we just love watching Westbrook get stuffed at the line by an unblocked linebacker or a defensive lineman that the OFFENSIVE line didn’t fee like blocking on that play?
At least McNabb matriculates the ball down the field as Hank Stram would say, even when you make him pass 30 times in a row.

Waste of Time
I’ve been cheering for this team for close to 30 years now and I can honestly say I have never been more embarrassed to call myself a fan. This team has nothing going for it now. Nothing! If there is one positive I can find in this game its that hopefully this puts Reid real close to being gone! And hey #5, what the fuck were you smiling at after 2 of your passes IN A ROW were tipped on that final drive? Did I miss something? Was there a reason to be happy? You are nothing more than a mediocre quarterback now. And that’s pushing it after these last few games. This team will go no where as long as Reid is still calling the shots. Plain and simple. He needs to be gone! All those folks like Peter king who say “look at this teams record under Reid in the last 10 years” can kiss my ass. Doesn’t matter what happened back in 04 or whenever. When we finish this season 6-10 give me a call and tell me why Reid should stay. Ill be pulling for you Philly every time you step on the field, but you have lowered my expectations to a place they haven’t been in a long long time. Reid, take a hike. Its time to get this team on a different track, and you aren’t invited to come along.

Coming off of 6-9-1 in ’97, with Peete/Detmer/Hoying taking the snaps, I did not exactly have high hopes for ’98. This year was different… I really thought we had the talent to be a contender, I really did.
Regarding how I feel now, I have to go back to the ’94 season you mentioned. That was the last time I felt this disgusted.

Damn straight!
We gave up almost nothing on the ground. Remember that fumble by McNabb, they had 3 chances to go 1 yard and we walled them up. The only problem today was once again the same thing that’s been killing us, the offense can’t sustain drives. I don’t see the running game as our biggest problem. It’s just that as an offense as a whole we drop passes, we don’t have the right personnel on the field, or we just call the wrong play in general. There have been teams that pass the ball 75% of the time and they are able to pull down wins and get into the playoffs, but today it seemed that not only were we pass happy but either the receivers were having trouble getting open, there were dropped passes, or Mcnabb was showing very little touch on the football. He had several plays where he overthrew, underthrew, led-improperly (??), or just plain fired a missile when he just had to drop the ball in. One of the first curtis throws in the first drive was due to exactly that.
I don’t know, stats aside they just don’t have any mojo. They don’t have an identity on offense at all. I just don’t know what they’re trying to do half the time and they don’t seem hungry to win the game. They seem to have this, ‘maybe next time’ attitude when they run that offense and when they go 3 and out, they just kind of mosey off the field. When you see the Giants run a drive, it’s do or die, they’re hungry to win. When Eli throws a pick they damn near have blur his mouth because he’s angry. Tom Coughlin freaks out when they end a drive in either 3 and out or turn the ball over. I want that. I want emotion, I want to see them get excited the same way our defense gets excited. But you don’t see that at all. They’re flat.
I hate the flatness the most because we just can’t seem to get anything going, and there are too many teams that are at the same win-loss ratio with us, with lesser personnel who deserve the playoffs more and are hungry for it…
…this team does not deserve the playoffs, at least the offense doesn’t, because they aren’t hungry for a win. At least they don’t play that way.
Oh, and split the time with Buck…he’s the man.
Go EAGLES!!!

While giving the D all the props in the world for holding the “All-Pro” Bengals lineup to a measely 13 points (woohoo, what a fucking accomplishment!), WHERE ARE THE INTERCEPTIONS?
MR. $58 MILLION CORNERBACK HAD ZERO. MR. I WANT A NEW CONTRACT AND BE A STARTER AGAIN HAD ZERO. MR. I SHOULD BE A PRO-BOWL CORNERBACK TOO HAD ZERO. NOBODY ELSE HAD ONE EITHER.
RYAN FITZPATRICK – NINE STARTS, 14 INTERCEPTIONS. NONE BY US THOUGH!
The Eagles have a great front seven, as shown by sacks, forced fumbles, and tackles for loss, but their secondary has fallen off a cliff as far as turnovers go.

Yes, I’m talking about this regime. This is simply not acceptable. A tie with the Cincinnati Bengals! Yes you read that right a tie with the Bengals.
The merer thought makes me want to puke all over Lurie.
I would rather have a loss to the Bengals, so the Eagles organization can’t spin it. Let me tell you what a tie with the Bengals means. Your team blows, your coaching staff is incompetent, your QB is absolute shit for the game.
I have been a big McNabb supporter throughout his whole career, but I’m beginning to turn on this asshole. Enough of your 1st quarter shittiness. You are costing the team valuable momentum. Today, he was even worse he missed wide open receivers, and at times blew the chance for the Eagles to win this game. I remember the screen where Westbrook was wide open (there was no one around him) and McNabb couldn’t get him the ball. He turned the ball over 4 times. If there was one saving grace about McNabb it was that he didn’t turn the ball over, and today he did that 4 times and pretty much cost us that game. It is unforgivable, and if this cocksucker can’t turn it around soon, then he can leave town with Andy.

I wonder what his excuse is going to be now. Are his kids still viable, or injuries, hmm nope would be funny if he set up his kids with drugs, stolen car, guns. That would be the only reason andy could make the front page again without a win. Maybe when he gets fired can we get a draft pick for him maybe 2020 4th rounder could be valuable.

Spagz '09!
You have to run more. If nothing else just to make a defense look for it. It can set up play action. Are there any other teams that have a run/pass ratio as bad as the Eagles and are actually successful? If you’re gonna pass all day and you’re not last years Patriots team you’re fucked. Who give’s a shit if Westbrook is hurt. Split him out and run Buck. He’s proven himself in the past. Although I understand a full back would be nice. We can argue about the defense all day long but there is enough talent on offense to score more the 13 points against the Bengals no matter who is hurt. If Shawn Andrews makes the O-line…. It’s coaching pure and simple. It may even just be because of all the personal shit Reids been through the past few years. Either way something has to give….

I still would love for someone to tell me why they feel bringing a god damn defensive minded coach in as a HC is going to instantly help the running game. if you’re pissed off about the offense and you want Andy gone, atleast use your brain and ask for someone who has either A) been a HC on a team with a power running game or B) been the OC of the team with a power running game.

When is Lurie going to make this look like the billion dollar organization it is? Seriously. Go out and get us a superbowl quality team. This has got to be McNabb’s last season starting on this team. Three pics and a fumble against the 1-8 Bengals, and there are seriously people that want to know if we’re mathematically still in it? I don’t want to be in it and be further embarassed by this team. Even if you make the arguement that he has won so many for us you have to conclude that those days are long gone…too many injuries…too many tough losses…too much of waiting for something extraordinary that is just not going to happen…while we’re at it I love BWest but you know what he’s always hurt and our line doesn’t help…we need a very big back like Jacobs to punish defenses…also there are awesome coaches out there let’s grab one…how about Cowher or Spags.

i dunno how many times i’ve said this over the past two or three weeks, but… you can’t just go grab some coach because he’s good and expect everything to be better. Spags is a defensive minded coach who has never worried about running an offense or trying to establish an offensive identity. please tell me how bringing him in changes the offense. also, yes cowher is a good coach… too bad we don’t have any personnel that align to his offensive scheme… if we bring him in, literally he has to get rid of McNabb, Westbrook, our whole O line, and probably all of our wideouts and TEs as well… because we run the WCO… our personnel aren’t fit to run a big smash you in the mouth running attack… so if you want to go that route, I hope your ready for 2 or 3 years of 4, 5 or 6 win seasons until Bill can draft/trade for everyone he needs… just picking a “good” coach out of a hat won’t do shit…

I know this isnt going to help anyones opinion of this team, but I try and be as optimistic as I can be with these things. I remember Eli Manning having a game agaisnt the Vikings last year where he had 4 interceptions and lost to them 41-17. Maybe we have games like this to get the team motivated more to play better. Just a thought… Im sure someone isnt going to like my comparison to the Giants but oh well.

westbrook is definately not going anywhere. I know that he wants to be the premier back but if they draft a big stud back, he could make westbrook better as well as extend his career. If they had a true 1-2 punch westbrook would stay fresher and play longer and more effectively. Of coarse andy won’t do this if he is still here. He will draft another small speed back and convert a lj smith to fullback

Thank you, Jason
Hey Jason,
I enjoy your live blogging each week and want to thank you for giving us all the chance to commiserate this piss poor season. With a little luck, maybe Lurie will pull the plug on Andy before we fall to a 3 -13 season next year. Then again, maybe not. Expect more pain and misery in the next few years as watching the Eagles will be like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Someone during the blog made the comment that the players have already quit on Reid. I think they quit on McNabb too, even though the O line gave him adequate protection, as he’s no leader. That idiotic grin of his after losses makes all of us wish a Justin Tuck or Ray Lewis would knock that grin right out of him. He accepts no responsibility for leading or accountability for his poor performances.
The Eagles have two first round draft picks this year. The way they’re looking this season, they could use one of those picks and draft a premier back (can you say bag the rest of the season?) The Giants are effectively using three backs and no one’s complaining they aren’t getting touches. If we establish a three pronged attack with Buck, Westbrook and a big bruising back, we might open up the passing game for Mr. “I puke under pressure.”
As for LJ Smith, he’s toast. He’s still hearing footsteps from that Lawyer Milloy hit. Ironically in most of McNabb’s picks, Smith is the intended receiver. He’s either hearing footsteps or afraid to take a shot up the middle. I’d be starting Celek if I were fatboy.
And hey Andy, hand the freaking playcalling over to Marty Morningweig! When McNabb went down and Garcia came in a few years ago, Morningweig did the playcalling. The result was a more balanced attack and a more effective running and passing game. Give Andy a box of donuts before the game and lock him in the locker room if possible. Keep him from mismanaging the game. Who knows? Maybe Morningweig will even give Kolb a chance when McNabb folds like a cheap tent at crunch time. And maybe Morningweig will throw more balls to the only receiver with both size and speed, Hank Baskett.
And despite the problems with game management and the offense, the Defense can hold their heads high. They kept this game from being a Loss. As a unit, they are playing well. There are mental lapses at times in the secondary (why didn’t JJ put Samuel on TJ all the time?!) and the linebacking crew is not coming up with game changing plays but otherwise they are playing respectably.
OK, done venting. :-) Almost time for MNF.

Introduction
I’m new here. Just joined tonight. I’m a long-time Eagles fan, therefore I have few delusions. I’m kicking my own butt for having bought ebay tix to the Cards game at home on T-Giving and the ’Skins game at Fed Ex, thinking they may turn out to be important games. Woe is me, those two are just part of playing out the string.
So, should I feel bad about going to Birds games, wearing Birds gear, but cheering on the other team? We are THE suck, and anyone who thinks we’ll go deep in the playoffs(if we get that far) must be buying their drugs from one of Andy’s kids.
If we go balls-out and make the playoffs, Andy/Mc5 has another year. If we tank it, the front office thinks it’s the 3rd out of 4 abberations and we have a high first-round pick to trade away while watching Reid/McNabb exponentially suck worse.
You guys don’t know me, but i’ve been saying it since the chunky bowl: “Prepare for the worst. You haven’t seen it yet”..
Awwright. Done venting. Time to see what Buffalo’s doing to Cleveland now.

Yes you should! Not hating on you, but if you ever root for a team that plays the birds, I’d question your fanhood directly
And i’ll be with you on Turkey day. That will be the win that turns the season around. We’ll squeak one out in Baltimore and win a big game on thanksgiving
Billy Penn who?
