Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals Open Thread
Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals, Nov 16, 2008 1:00 PM EST
Location: Paul Brown Stadium
Time: 1pm
TV/Radio: Fox/94 WYSP/610 WIP/Sirius 144
Did you know?
With one touchdown, Brian Westbrook will move into 6th place on the Eagles all time TD list. With two he'll tie for 5th place and with 3 he'll tie for 4th.
Bottom Line
They're all must wins from here on out. Coming off a home loss to a divisional rival to face a 1-8 Bengals team without Carson Palmer the Eagles have no excuses today. Anything other than a super motivated and solid performance is acceptable today.

This whole game is a train wreck....
From the horrid mistakes, dropped passes and miscues to the terrible mcnabb throws, whack play callying, and turnover this game is something to behold
I think the Eagles have already achieved an unacceptable grade for the day!

Point taken
But it’s nice to have a good story like him once in a while. When I look at him running, I’m thinking “Man-those knees!”
I'm gonna assume it's not just me ...
… but after a week of complaining about awful play-calling, it’s actually worse today, is it not?
It’s bad in general. It’s hard to tell if it’s better or worse in any given week because you have to account for the fact that the offensive players have not been especially good either.
True.
I mean, I like the creativity … but not every play. On a team that clearly needs to establish the run, even if it’s with Buck instead of Westbrook, all I’ve seen is screens, reverses, flea-flickers and McNabb’s typical three-and-out early-game passing. (he usually warms up tho)
This is a hard team to invest a lot of emotion in because you know they’re going to burn you in the end. They are what we think they are :)
Isn't it nice how Reid lets a 1-8 home team have the 1st half to take the lead?

Brilliant
Show the Wildcat right before the 2-minute warning.
I’m so not a negative fan, these guys are just driving me nuts.
Not much good seems to come from throwing to LJ
Anyone still glad the Eagles didn’t send KC a 2nd round pick for Tony Gonzalez?

Our offense regresses as the year goes on. This is truly unbelievable. Never, in my wildest imagination, did I expect the O to play THAT bad.
I think a few things are clear:
1. The west coast offense has by and large fallen out of favor and defenses are having an easier time defending it.
2. As a team, we do not have the ability – because of a lack of skill at the WR and QB positions – to be effective with the WCO.
As long as Andy Reid is coaching this team, we cannot expect a change in offensive philosophy – the WCO is all he knows, and he adheres to its tenets dogmatically – to the more balanced offensive approach that most successful teams these days use.
AFTER you establish the pass…which we don’t seem to have the skill to do…thus, the run never opens up. It becomes this cycle where our inability to pass forces us to continue passing in lieu of the run.
This has nothing to do with WCO or something else
The Eagles have always been predictable with their play-calling. They make themselves 1-dimensional by design when they throw the ball all the time. Why should any defense respect the Eagles running game when they KNOW… ‘cause it’s happened time and time again, that the Eagles are going to call a pass play at least 70% of the time?
And if Reid does hand off to one of his running backs, chances are he won’t do it back-to-back!
Unless it’s 2nd & 1 on the goalline. Then Reid will keep trying to hammer it up the middle!
The monster at the end of this blog.
They are 1-dimensional because Reid refuses to abandon – or even modify – the West Coast hocus pocus that he learned when he was Brett Farve’s handmaiden 12 years ago. The playcalling flows from his refusal to jettison the WC philosophy. So I say to Jeff Lurie, jettison Reid if you want to win.
The system doesn't matter
West Coast/East Coast/Iron Belt
If the other guy thinks all you’re going to do is pass, and all you ever call are pass plays, you are screwed.

What amazes me is how woefully we are unprepared for a 1-8 team with a back up QB.
I bleed green and I piss silver and blue
Just curious... what happened on the last pick?
Have to follow the game on-line so details are a bit sketchy. Bad pass or did Curtis let it go through his hands?
The monster at the end of this blog.
Hard to say
Bounced off Curtis but not sure if he ran the route a little off or McNabb’s pass was off.
I really feel...
…like if we lose this game, the calls for Andy’s head are going to be ear-splitting. Forget about losing to the Giants. But the Bengals?
Man, used to really enjoy watching the Eags. I am at the point now where I am so disgusted 15 minutes into every game, it just wrecks the entire day. Forget complaining about them, all as we do is rehash the same old complaints we all have been saying for the past 2 years. Obviously, nothing will change. FuquaManuel summed it up Reid’s approach best – dogmatic. I have had enough for today, the damage is done, regardless of the final outcome.
one word -Embarrassing-
i was about to jump off of wachovia center but one of akers’ kicks smacked me right in the face and knocked me backwards…
fuck all you stupid shits for calling me an asshole and an idiot for calling for Reid's head
where are you now nickpampni? stupid ass
Westbrook
Must not be able to run much because of all that money weighting down his wallet.
Maybe that's 'cause Reid keeps asking him to win the games on his own
The monster at the end of this blog.
I swear to God...
…if we lose this game and Andy gives the same old answers at the press conference, some reporter is going to try to strangle him.
It’s possible that when today is done the birds will be 5-5 and the Falcons 7-3!
I bleed green and I piss silver and blue
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY DO THEY THROW IT SHORT OF THE MARKER ON THIRD DOWN???
Billy Penn who?
Surprisingly
We just throw away a timeout…
Have the Eagles' failures in 1 yard situations reached an epic level yet?
The monster at the end of this blog.
It is now 11:17 in SA and me and my girlfriend are still sitting behind a fucking computer screen hoping that this thing will finish in a W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
z
Really? Delay of game? Nobody thought to call a friggin timeout?
Wait, another timeout? Andy trying to preserve time for the comeback in case the Bengals score or something?
He just feels the urge to use em all before the game ends…

We got another chance...
With two timeouts left…oh, wait…
Good lord...
Wouldnt be smarter to go for it considering our standings situation? :|
A tie here its just like a loss anyway…
oh good god
we;re done i give up…
sorry leon but i might have to sell those thanksgiving tickets
Billy Penn who?
Quite Frankly...
What else got to happen to kick the walrus butt out of town?
Isnt this already WAY more than enough?
That feels like a loss to me.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
Perspective
The Bengals took the Giants to overtime too.
Obviously, they aren’t as bad as 1-8-1.
