Andy Reid approval rating

Andy-reid-728695_medium

In the news we're always hearing about how still president Bush(thanks Daily Show) has a historically low "approval rating." The news networks love to show graphs of how his approval rating has fluctuated at different points in his presidency as different major events have happened. An approval rating is more or less a polling company calling people up and asking "is the guy good or what?"

So how about we do the same for our dear leader Andy Reid? A prime time game against the New York Giants is a significant enough event to warrant taking the pulse of the fan...

Will "just keep firing" be Andy Reid's "heckuva job Brownie?"

I was talking with a friend...

about andy reid and how he has turned the team around in the last 10 years, making them a perennial contender. He’s taken them to 5 Division championships, been to the NFC Championship 4 times and the Super Bowl once. He has been great for the team and the city.

However, it appears his window is starting to close. 5 and B-West are only getting older. Reid just can’t seem to get us over the top. I have backed Andy Reid my entire life as an Eagle’s fan but now, barring anything crazy, i believe is the time to look elsewhere.

Yes, I'm unsatisfied...

…but I wouldn’t fire him as head coach. I’d curtail his GM-like responsibilities in the hopes that someone else can help make up for his blindspots (linebacker/fullback), but the way I see it changing coaches would do more damage than good. Right now, Andy Reid is the devil we know.

And, might I add, had Westbrook got the first down and we scored a touchdown (two big ifs, I know, but certainly not out of the question considering it was third and three or four in Giants’ territory) then we’d be talking about how the Eagles were the class of the NFC. Let’s not lose sight of that.

As they say — things are never as bad or as good as they seem in the NFL.

That’s the point, he DIDN’T get the first down. Losing four games by six points or less has to be pinned on the coach. The team can play well, but not finish. That’s a management problem, not a personnel problem. I know Andy is a GOOD coach, but he’s not a GREAT coach. These Eagles are no better than the late 80’s teams. Good, but not great. Good coached get fired, especially after 10 years of being just good.

Same Tune

I have always backed Reid until now. He knows how to operate a team, no question. His style of coaching puts the onus on the players and he is ALOT more revealing to his team then he is to the media/public. However, he merely looks confused in game situations now. His play calling and challenging leaves alot to be desired at this point in time. I mean, he isn’t a rookie coach with inexperienced players. And to keep calling the same running plays with the game on the line is ridiculous. He does not seem confident at all and is merely only outguessing himself at this point in time.

And teams, especially in our division, seem to always know what play is coming and in what situations. This actually came about last year when they were playing the Giants and the Eagles had the ball inside the 5. You could hear the Giants D calling out, “shovel pass” or “watch the shovel” and sure enough they shoveled it to Westbrook and it was stopped.

Reid just doesn’t seem to know how to get us to the next level. He used to cruise through the regular season but would clam up in the NFC Championship games. Now he is clamming up in mid-season games. It is time to get some new energy and ideas for this team.

Offensive Coordinator

I dont think Andy is terrible as a GM or a coach, but his play calling is horrible. Whenever I think about the last dive it just leads to holes in walls and yelling “serenity now”. Marty can’t call plays well either. Andy needs to put the play calling in the hands of a good offensive coordinator, one who can think of a few plays to get it done in late down short yardage situations.

The last time

i doubted reid this much was in ‘06 when we got beat a few times in a row and lost mcnabb for the year. That year he was saved by giving morningwheig play calling duties and Jeff Garcia, but he obviously had a part to do with the turn around. I’m not happy with the state of the team and the direction right now, but i think reid should be given the rest of the year. Anything less that 9-7 and he should be gone.

No, I'm pretty freakin far from OK with Reid and the current state of the season

I think Reid should actually be given the next two years, regardless of what happens. I will admit that I don’t agree with a lot of Reid’s football philosophies and may be a bit of a Reid basher. I don’t think he places enough importance on running the football or defending the run, doesn’t value the linebacker position enough, is poor making decisions and adjustments during the game, has time management problems, and could improve his talent evaluation. All that said, I don’t fire him after this season regardless of the record because I think he has earned a chance to try to get things back on track. If this is McNabb’s last season, I want to give Reid a chance for two seasons with Kolb at quarterback. I do think there should be changes in the GM/player personnel departments. But I want to see what Reid can do with a QB who may be a bit more suited to his style of offense and what he can do with 2 first round picks in next year’s draft. I think the next two seasons will give a fair assessment. I would not pull a San Diego and fire Reid to bring in a recycled coach like Norv Turner. During the next two seasons, I would keep my eyes open for a young coach who believes in running the football and has more than a binder full of Mike Holmgren’s notes to wow me in the event that Reid totally flames out over the next two years. The Steelers were patient with Cowher and the Titans have been patient with Fisher. I’m willing to be patient but have a contingency plan if the next two seasons don’t work out with Reid.
