What Needs To Happen

OK here are my theories on what’s happening and what needs to happen.

In order to know what needs to happen we first must understand what the problem is. I believe we have the talent and depth to win every game, so it’s not our players...so far. I believe Big A is a great strategic coach and while we all hate the play calling at points we love it at other times, hell if we converted those goal line stand we would have an entirely different season. The fact is that almost all of us feel that the team is lacking the heart or the motivation. so where does that come from. I feel it’s the coaching.

Lets define the coaches role:

The head coach and either be strategic or Motivational and Big A id strategic

Coordinators should they be the counter part to the head coach

Position coaches fill in the gaps.

Now for all intensive purposes our defense is showing up for at least half of each game and that means they are getting motivated at the half AND OUR OFFENCE IS NOT.

So the problem if motivation of our offence that leads to the offensive coaches because Andy holds down the strategy part of the game.

On top of that its time to flush our system of motivationally deficient players I.E players that CAN NOT be motivated on this team.

These players are people who have no hope of becoming a starter on this team. For instance  Correll Buckhalter. I’m sorry but he has no hope of ever getting the starting job here so he can’t be motivated as easily as Booker or Hunt. The reason booker and hunt can be motivated is because one day Westbrook is going to have to retire and they then have that edge.

Other players on this list would be: Considine, and maybe brown and akers.

But the key here is Motivation and that has to come from coaches and in particular position coaches and coordinators

Defense?

How did the Defense show up in the 2nd half of the Washignton game? By coughing up two long touchdown drives? Or was it by failing to get a stop on 3rd or 4th down at the end of the game?

Sean Considine was not on the field then. Better find a new scape goat.

true but

when the offence had a 3 and out for 90% of the time the deffense does get tired.

True

I think the defense played pretty well. but look at the time of possession. When any defense is on the field for that amount of time with not time to rest due to all of the 3 and outs….you will never win that. The defense played well, the offense needs to give them a break sometimes. I’d say by far the defense is championship caliber, the offense….well they need some work.

Defense tired?

Yeah, because they couldn’t get off the field.

Why weren’t they forcing 3 and outs?

Washington converted 11 of 19 3rd downs, 1 4th down, and kicked 3 field goals. The defense only stopped them 4 times all day.

Of course they were tired. But don’t blame the offense for that.

well

Only giving up 9 pts in the first half when punting on every possession but one is pretty damn good.

Was it the best D performance? No, but in no way shape or form can you pin this on the D. It took the offense 30 minutes to get a first down.

I get really annoyed when people say

the defense got tired because the offense couldn’t keep them off the field. First off they are making a lot of money nad it is there job to go out there. Second the other teams offense is out there just as long as our Defense, they didn’t seem to get tired so why did we?

i agree Nick

I think you have 2 strategic offensive coaches strategizing us into the ground and noone is bothering to go over to the bench and say ok guys here’s what ya gotta do, you can do it, now gop make it happen

and by us

i mean the team and not the fans the fans are already motivated. however TO did motivate the fans too for better or for worse

we drafted a guy that could be that spark that TO was, that andy said is that spark that TO was and they threw to him twice. why they didn’t follow that slant that rogers jumped with a double move on the outside with any of our receivers i will never know . but rogers was screaming throw the ball over my head all day
