Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles Open Thread

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles

Cropped-40x40_medium Cropped-40x40_medium

Location: Lincoln Financial - Field Philadelphia, PA

Time: 1p Eastern

TV: FOX

Radio: 94.1 WYSP, 610 WIP, Sirius 126

Did you know? (from NFL.com)

3-0. After a Week 1 loss to the Giants, the Redskins are going for a fourth consecutive win. ... Redskins QB Jason Campbell has posted a 100-plus passer rating in past three games and is second in the NFC with a 102.2 rating. ... Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh is the only other Redskins quarterback to post a 100-plus passer rating for a season (Baugh did it in 1945). ... Eagles rookie WR DeSean Jackson is on track for 88 catches and 1,308 yards. Both would be club rookie records.

My usual post game headlines will be late today since I'll be at the game itself! Go Birds!

Let's go Phillies!!

Beat the Brewers and bring on the Dodgers!

It would be nice if the Eagles would win too, but today is all about the Phightin’ Phils.

Make my choice to watch you over the Phillies a good one please.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 12:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Here is a little pregame notes and stats

-The Eagles have won three straight at home, outscoring opponents by a combined 70-18 in the process. Philadelphia hasn’t allowed a touchdown during its 3-game win streak at “The Linc.”

-Jason Campbell has yet to throw an interception in 2008. His 124 attempts to start a season without a pick are the most by any Redskin quarterback since Brad Johnson had 126 without an INT to begin 1999. (this could change when he meets asante)

-Clinton Portis recorded his 20th 100-yard rushing game as a Redskin last weekend (11th on the road). The Redskins are 17-3 overall in those contests and have won 10 of their last 11 when Portis goes over the century mark.

- Redskins rush is ranked #11 and the Eagles rush defense is ranked #1

- Redskins total offense #9, Eagles total defense #3
- Eagles total offense #6, Redskins total defense #14

Westbrook has an upper body injury?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 1:24 PM EDT   0 recs

DeSean

Oh that was nice.

by ajay on Oct 5, 2008 1:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Remember how last week felt at the start?

This one is the exact opposite, they’re doing everything well from the start, unlike last week where it was bad right away and you just got that feeling. Granted, they got it together last week and will probably come back to earth some in this game, but good lord it feels like the Rams game.

The Birds are an easy team to like when they play like this, PLUS get the breaks from officials.

This is definitely a need game, but then again the Eagles with Westbrook are better than .500 and the upcoming sked looks really favorable.

If they put some more distance between them on this drive, maybe they can use Westbrook a little less than they normally would.

… holy crap Reggie Brown is looking revitalized.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:38 PM EDT   0 recs

They better not try to kick a field goal here.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 1:39 PM EDT   0 recs

You aren’t letting that go anytime soon, huh? :)

Well, with good reason. Boos for Akers.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:39 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This is profoundly stupid

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 1:39 PM EDT   0 recs

Fuck David Akers. They really need to stop kicking field goals from outside of 40 with this loser.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 1:40 PM EDT   0 recs

I actually think maybe they sent him out there to try to make one they didn’t necessarily need so he can get his head right.

Backfired though.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

all with u this time dude

DeSean Jackson = Little Giant 2.0

by anuj on Oct 5, 2008 1:47 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Akers is washed up

wtf are we still doing letting him kick long shots?

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 1:40 PM EDT   0 recs

we may have one this year if he doesn’t start making some kicks

The road to victory!

by jayt on Oct 5, 2008 1:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

exactly.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 1:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Problem is kickers are not a dime a dozen. Some no-name chump can miss from 50 just the same … I guess we want a guy Reid doesn’t trust from that distance so he goes for it more!

Better to work it out now so he knows when not to send him out there in key late-season games and, should we be so lucky, in the playoffs.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:42 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

the way Sav is pinning them deep

I wish we’d just punt in that situation. 4th and 1 or 4th and 1 lets just go for it, otherwise outside of 40 let sav pin them.

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 1:42 PM EDT   0 recs

Maybe so. I really think Reid just wanted to show confidence in his guy there. … you know Reid’s a take-the-points guy, but yeah, he hasn’t yet accepted that Akers can’t make those kicks this year.

I love watching this D.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:44 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Can someone explain this to me?

When Suisham kicked the ball it went THROUGH the uprights. How did he do that?

by ajay on Oct 5, 2008 1:48 PM EDT   0 recs

and go figure

THEIR kicker makes a 40+ yarder

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 1:48 PM EDT   0 recs

wheres westbrook?

I live in North Dakota and I cant follow the game other than on nfl.com. Anyways… I saw westbrook gettin the ball early but all Ive been seeing was buuchalters name for the last few plays, did westbrook get hurt? NFL.com doesnt update on injuries or anything.

by midnitegreen on Oct 5, 2008 1:49 PM EDT   0 recs

upper body injury of some type

wasn’t related to his old injury, or at least it didn’t look like it was. and he didn’t look hurt badly

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 1:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Buckhalter*
sorry I was in a rush

by midnitegreen on Oct 5, 2008 1:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Fox said something about his chest … he took a series off but just played this last series.

Not sure it’s a terrible idea to have Westbrook miss a few plays in favor of Buck even if he’s fine … West stays fresh and doesn’t risk aggravating the injury, and Buck stays involved, and inevitably when we need him again, he’ll have been getting work in games.

Pam Oliver just said rib injury but Westbrook will continue to play.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

hes back

The road to victory!

by jayt on Oct 5, 2008 1:50 PM EDT   0 recs

Once they get outside of their scripted plays the offense starts to sputter.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 1:53 PM EDT   0 recs

Lo Booker sighting. :)

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:53 PM EDT   0 recs

with Westy's injury issues

I’m sad Booker hasn’t done more for us. We know what to expect from Buck, and he hasn’t played badly, but I think we hoped for some spark from BOok…

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 1:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Only positive spin I can put on it is dude is a second-year player in a completely different offense, maybe his head’s swimming or they can’t trust him in pass protection yet.

If he does nothing all year I’ll be annoyed, but I’ll give him some time.

The birds are what they are so far without anything from Curtis, Booker and Chris Clemons … maybe we get something from them before it’s over. Nice to have guys like that in reserve.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

sav has been unreal this year

The road to victory!

by jayt on Oct 5, 2008 1:54 PM EDT   0 recs

God damn

Sav is a weapon

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 1:54 PM EDT   0 recs

He’s finally figuring this NFL thing out. Remember they always loved his leg strength but he got off to a rough start last year.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It’s just one of those games … special teams playing really well, they’re catching breaks.

A lot of the Eagles’ games are about which Eagles team shows up, not who they play. There’s no team in the NFL that blows them off the field.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 1:54 PM EDT   0 recs

From Fox:

Zorn: “Jim Johnson is an evil man.” :)

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:00 PM EDT   0 recs

The run defense ...

… looking good again. So far.

I think I read this week they were giving up just 2.6 yards a carry, which was an NFL best.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:01 PM EDT   0 recs

Skins building a little mometum ...

… I guess it wasn’t going to be a breeze all day.

Crowd cheering for Burrell’s HR, not this big second-and-7 :)

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:04 PM EDT   0 recs

its the skins

they are a good team as much as we dont want to admit. i am expectin a close game.

DeSean Jackson = Little Giant 2.0

by anuj on Oct 5, 2008 2:06 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, I live in Redskins Country, usually I wait for them to crash and burn and weeks later for the fans to admit it … this year it was the opposite, everyone finally got off the bandwagon, but they have talent and Zorn is no dumbass. (they got back on after Dallas, but that’s not the point)

They’re tough. They can be beaten, for sure, but they’re tough.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I envy the Skins. It must be awesome to have a kicker who can connect from outside 40.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 2:10 PM EDT   0 recs

i share that envy

we need a kicker. bad. lol, use one of the first rounders for it.

DeSean Jackson = Little Giant 2.0

by anuj on Oct 5, 2008 2:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

and here we needed 1 out of 2

from outside 40 to probably win last week

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 2:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

we need to respond

and march back down the field

DeSean Jackson = Little Giant 2.0

by anuj on Oct 5, 2008 2:12 PM EDT   0 recs

so far

the redskins have doubled the total points the rams scored in the linc this year, and tied the steelers in thier total points, time to hold em off

by midnitegreen on Oct 5, 2008 2:16 PM EDT   0 recs

That was a pathetic possession. This is why a team as “good” as the Eagles is able to lose games.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 2:16 PM EDT   0 recs

agree … on one hand.

On the other, every good team goes three-and-out sometimes, especially when they are playing another good team.

I do agree the play-calling has gotten stale after they ran off the script, but overall as a half I’ll take it.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Special Teams looking sharp today ...

… someone needs to teach Sav to do the “oh, I was hit” fall after they don’t block his punt.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:17 PM EDT   0 recs

I nominate Andy

I’d like to see that demonstration

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 2:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Mark my words, if we give up points here, we will lose this game.

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 2:20 PM EDT   0 recs

u really know how to get on someones nerves

DeSean Jackson = Little Giant 2.0

by anuj on Oct 5, 2008 2:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If you were dying, you would want to know about it right?

by FuquaManuel on Oct 5, 2008 2:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

see wtf

why did we call that 1st timeout? now they still have one left

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 2:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The Redskins aren't going to go away ...

… The Birds are going to have to get aggressive again in the second half.

I’d take a miss here.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:27 PM EDT   0 recs

right down the pike.

pipe?

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that sucked- wish akers could do that still

2008/2009 the body bag season

by EAGLE_MAN71 on Oct 5, 2008 2:27 PM EDT   0 recs

we handed them those points

in every sense of the word

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 2:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

14-9

yea…totally agree with u. if akers connected, 20-9

DeSean Jackson = Little Giant 2.0

by anuj on Oct 5, 2008 2:28 PM EDT   0 recs

On the bright side

we’re not giving up TD’s…

by keithk on Oct 5, 2008 2:29 PM EDT   0 recs

you could look at it like that.

The offense has to get its swag from the first drive back.

by D3Keith on Oct 5, 2008 2:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs
