Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Hey Guys... Gimme A Hand

Hey guys...  Got a bit of a dilemma here and need an opinion.  Usually when I buy sports merchandise, I try to avoid the cheap stuff.  (All of my jersies/sweaters are authentic stuff).  Well, except for one sport that is; football.  I have replicas of Dawkins, Westbrook, and McNabb.  I've finally socked away some cash to get the real deal, but I'm having a hard time deciding who to get.  Usually when I get jersies, I look long term, because I don't want to blow $200+ to see the guy get traded/not get resigned after one season.  For example, my Phillies jersies consist of Utley, Howard and Hamels...  Flyers are Gagne and now Richards, and the Sixers jersey I have is Iverson (quite a few years old).

Dawkins is my man, but I have a pretty good feeling that he may not be back next year, so I've been thinking about Jackson.  Anyone ever get details about his contract?  Anyone know how long he's signed for?

So help me out here guys...  Should I get the classic Dawkins that will be respected for the rest of time or the upstart superstar in Jackson?

I’ve got a Dawkins jersey that I wear and I know I can wear in 30 years and everyone will still be like … man Dawkins what a great Philadelphian. You really can’t go wrong with Dawkins even if he isn’t here next year. That said I believe this is his contract year … he signed a 2 year extension in 2006.

Jackson is a good WR and is signed for 4 years … I expect that to turn into 6 after this year the Eagles lock up young guys they like early. But it’s still risky.

I just got one of the replithentic (or whatever they call the still-replica jerseys with the sewn-on numbers) Dawkins. Because this may be his last year, that’s what I’m wearing every gameday. If he signs somewhere else, it may get put on hiatus for a year or two, but once he retires I can wear it proudly forever.

Time's yours, Andy.

Gotta go w/Whodie on this one.

I personally am reluctant to spend on $200+ on an authentic jersey because I’d almost be afraid of wearing something that expensive to the game and spilling beer or ketchup on it or something.

But, others are more coordinated than me so that’s not an issue. But if you spend that much, and it’s a long time before you’ll be able to spend that on a jersey again, I’d go with something I could wear forever. DeSean Jackson may play for the Redskins in 5 years, we know that Brian Dawkins is an Eagle forever.

(But — if Jackson helps us get some rings and then signs elsewhere, maybe you’ll get your money’s worth out of it anyway.)

I own 1 authentic jersey. Cal Ripken #8. I can wear that to any Orioles game for the rest of my life. (Except I don’t so often because it’s black and uncomfortable as all hell to wear in hot weather)

Time's yours, Andy.

man i’ll tell you what… i feel for baseball players… their jersies are heavy as hell… it’s like trying to play in a twenty pound wet towel… crazy stuff

to play devils advocate on the Jackson side. It s very likely barring injury that he will break the eagles rookie receiving record, If I am not mistaken its held by reggie brown. not sure if he has a chance at rookie nfl yardage but having the eagles record is kinda worth having his jersey for i think. I have several Auth jerseys and I think jackson is my next

I hear you - I still have a Charlie Garner Jersey

I think Whodie’s spot on. The 20 jersey will stand the test of time.

By the way – I still wear my Charlie Garner jersey.

I’d go with the Dawk (and have). I also remember not too long ago when Randall had just left the Eagles. I put his jersey in the closet for sentimental reasons but now it appears as if it’s in style to wear his Kelly Green #12 in public so I rock it every night before a game and actually get some cool comments about it. Thanks Randall.

I’m not a good guy to ask. I’m still regretting the purchase of my Doug Pederson jersey back in ’99!

me as well but I was so pumped and going to the game the day after the jersey came out so I was like what the hell.

Funny little story :
I actually had some drunk girl scream at me “TO IS A FAG” and then her boyfriend come over and said “sorry my girlfriend gets dislexic when she’s drunk” (Stallworth = #18) … it was pretty funny.
