Shawn Andrews has surgery, out at least 6 weeks
Head coach Andy Reid and head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder announced that Pro Bowl guard Shawn Andrews underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair the back injury that he suffered in the Week 2 loss to Dallas. The surgery will not force Andrews to be placed on the injured reserve list. Burkholder said that the recovery time could range from six weeks to three months. In the meantime, Max Jean-Gilles will remain the starter at right guard in Andrews' absence.

Why not just put him on IR at this point?

do you really want to activate a guy 2 or 3 weeks before the playoffs… or in the the playoffs when he hasnt played since week 2.

Andrews = Pro Bowl RG.
Hunt and Reid <= decent Special Teams contributors.
You keep hope alive with your Pro Bowler. Not sure why Reid was cut – I think it might be his ankle injury – but the team obviously thought he wouldn’t be able to contribute in any significant fashion this year…

Well, this isn't good...
Although honestly I wonder if his back had been bothering him before the season. Very often, physical ailments which are hard to diagnose are instead diagnosed as depression. I wonder if Andrews off season medical encounters were maybe not properly handled by his doctors…

Wow, so it wasn’t just back spasms all this time. I’m shocked (sarcasm).
A back can be pretty touchy to try to come back from. It might be better to IR Andrews and keep going with Max at this point.

Really, they should just put him on IR and be done with it. He’s 335 pounds and he won’t be doing any serious conditioning or lifting for a few weeks at least. Even if he’s healthy enough to play again this year, he won’t be in any kind of shape to actually take the field. With MJG’s development and Runyan’s probable retirement, I wonder if Andrews moves to RT next year.
