Eagles cut Tony Hunt, sign LB Tracy White
The Eagles signed linebacker Tracy White. To make room for White on the 53-man roster, the team released RB Tony Hunt.
A six-year veteran, White (6-0, 238 pounds) spent the last two-plus seasons with the Green Bay Packers before being released on 10/7/08. Originally signed by Seattle as an undrafted rookie in 2003 out of Howard, White played in 20 games (two starts) with the Seahawks, recording 26 tackles and one sack. He spent the 2005 season as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, before signing with the Packers in 2006.
White seems to be mostly a special teams guy.
Thanks to Andrew for the scoop
Kind of a bummer for Hunt to finally be moved back to RB where belongs, only to not touch the ball and get cut a week later.

Why all the love for Hunt? He’s done nothing!!!! Buckhalter is twice the back he was. Plus if you have trouble with blitz pick up in this scheme you are worthless!!!!
Lastly, we tried HARD to get Gonzo, so leave the FO alone. At least we didnt give half our draft picks away for a WR…. That is the kinda shit Dan Synder of old and Al Davis would do…and neither dan snyder’s teams of old or Al davis’s recent teams are/were good.

they’re saying that Booker is a better runningback than Hunt…what fucking (pardon me) world is reid and Co. living in. I thought that Hunt had potential. He’s no Westbrook, but he definitely had potential in a Buckhalter kind of way.
I just don’t get it…lets cut Desean Jackson and sign Kitna…I think that would work, we can start him at DT.

I agree with Walcott
Why do we need another linebacker? If the Eagles were looking for special teams help, why not activate Joe Mays? I actually don’t have a problem with cutting Tony Hunt. The Eagles view him as nothing more than the 4th running back, so he wasn’t going to get a chance to contribute. I do agree that Jed Collins should have been activated so they would have an actual fullback. The problem I do have is that they misjudged on another 3rd round draft pick.
On another note, I was kind of hoping the Eagles could have moved Feeley to Detroit since Kitna is done for the season. At this point, Feeley really serves no purpose on this team and I honestly don’t think he has any kind of future with the Eagles. I’d prefer to draft another quarterback next year in the 5th round to develop into a backup because you know what Feeley is. I liked Feeley’s ability to date hot babes like Heather Mitts, but I could do without his ability to throw 3-4 interceptions in a game. I would have liked to have gotten a 5th round pick for him.

whos idea was this anyhow within the eagles org- just wondering whos responsible for this not so bright move ??? did we even give hunt a real chance ? well i hope buck doesnt get injured while filling in for an injured westbrook. iam not saying that booker is bad in anyway- i hope he becomes greatness because hes an eagle – in short i dont understand the logic behind this what i call bad move ,i hope iam proved wrong -[ tracy white -spent the last two-plus seasons with the Green Bay Packers before being released on 10/7/08. ] what ?? . by the way i do think buckhalter is doing a awesome job – i wasnt ripping him , he just has a past history of being injured

seriously what did you want him to do? the offer he made to Randy Moss was for more money than the one he signed with the Pats… He was clearly interested in Gonzalez. Did you want him to just send whatever the Chiefs wanted? What if they wanted our 1, 2, and 3 draft picks. Did you want him to pull the trigger? Did you want him to just go kidnap Moss and not TG?
It seems that you’re the football mad scientist here, especially given the fact that you joined BGN today and your first four comments have been these stunning results. Why don’t you give us an extensive FanPost that outlines your master strategy that will turn this whole mess around. Please take into account our current Salary Cap figures and potential pitfalls of simply cutting players (due to excelerated cap issues). I for one am very interested to see your plan.

I echo one of my former posts…
ACK!!! Andy Reid is a witch! Burn him! Burn him!
Yes, Andy Reid is a horrible coach and GM. It’s not like he has the 2nd best winning percentage over the past decade or anything… oh… he does? hmmm. Geeez… Might as well roast him (mmmm roast) for taking McNabb over Ricky Williams. That was a huge disaster. And what the hell was he thinking spending a 3rd round draft pick on some kid from a little school near Philly? Horrible… And in an offseason where the entire city was yelling for an impact wide out, you think he’d at least CALL Randy Moss and talk to him, or at the very least draft an impact wide out that could contribute on special teams. Useless fatbody.
Why can he not see that all of this depth that he’s packed the roster with is useless!!! No one ever gets injured or fatigued! Damn it Andy, spend all of our cap room on 22 starters, and fill the rest of the roster with grocery boys!
We are most definitely the worst team in the NFL as a direct result of Andy Reid not spending all of our money on overpriced players in their mid-30s. He clearly cannot evaluate potential draft picks. My god. People like McNabb, Westbrook, Trent Cole, Mikel, Sheldon Brown, Mike Patterson, Shawn Andrews, Bunkley, and DeSean Jackson. What the hell was he thinking?!?!?!
That’s it! I’m so fired up right now. I’m going to find my torches and pitch forks. You better watch out Andy, the mob is coming for you! Burn him! Burn him!!!

I don’t give a rats ass about winning percentages if you can win or get to the super bowl.

how did we “finish” last season? We finished great… we actually had a healthy quarterback (first time in years) and had a 3 game winning streak against good teams. do i think Andy is the end all/be all of coaches? no. do I think he needs to adjust his player packaging and play calling? yes. do i think that if he makes these adjustments and delegates some responisbility to marty that our record will significantly improve? yes.
there’s a difference between looking at our situation realistically and finding the actual faults rather than throwing up your hands in disgust and simply stating that everything about the guy is horrible and that he’s useless.
now, if you search around here a bit, you’ll see that we’ve had this discussion before, but… if you don’t like Andy, who should be the head coach? i’m going to do you a favor and use some logic to rule out a few of your obvious choices
Cowher – probably wouldn’t come to Philly. his system is entirely different and would take 3 years to get his personnel in place to be successful. any HC you install would have to use a similar offensive and defensive system
Jason Garrett – probably the HC in Dallas next year.
Pete Carrol – see Patriots, New England (history); Jets, New York (history)
Have at it..

uhh it happens when Jerry Jones is willing to sell the better part of his draft for a constantly injured underachieving (any other type of WR from Detroit) wide out who, once the dust settles, he will be stuck with for a few years. it’s sad that you’re making such a big tuff over a guy who can’t stay healthy and whose best season is marginally better than Kevin Curtis’ 2007 campaign and for the most part his production is on the par with a typical Reggie Brown season.
if anything we should be thanking the Lions for sending the Cowboys a marginal player that they are going to invest too much money in and also hindering Dallas’ future development because they just lost valuable draft picks. also, throwing another prima dona ball hog into that locker room should really spur the feeding frenzy that will ensue.
we should be thanking the Cowboys and Detriot. don’t be pissy.

The answer is that overall, they marginally upgraded their offense yesterday… but given the fact that their defense (especially their secondary) is plagued with injuries and now Pacman is out for atleast 4 weeks, I would have to say that their defense took a significant hit to a position that they were already weak at. The Cowboys are near the bottom of the league in pass defense. So, overall, I would say that given all of the events yesterday, they got worse.

because overall, there is only one football to go around on offense… also if you look at the season stats, Crayton/Austin actually have better numbers for more yards and less drops than Roy Williams. Seems to me, they would have been better off trading those draft picks for secondary help.

I hate Dallas. But the fact is they have a better record than us and will continue to have a better record than us because they add talent to positions, as of late they draft better players thanks to one of our #1 picks.
The Eagles are in deep deep shit now due to piss por scouting and drafting and a brain dead coach who can’t adjust to game conditions, can’t run a 2 minute drill and calls dumbass plays.

have you seen the average age of the players on our team for the past few years and the fact that we have been perennial contenders … I’m pretty sure that points to good drafting and good leadership. We have 5 players in their 30s among the tops in the NFL but our average age is near the bottom, thats a young team with veterans to lead them.

they added players to offense, which they’re already good at. thinking back to week two, i don’t think they could have scored more points on us if they had roy williams. however, their defense has only gotten worse, and they didn’t do anything to improve it. they add talent, yes, but at positions they don’t need more talent. ever hear of the saying “defense wins championships”? did you see last years superbowl? NE offense was insane, but the giants won, incase you forgot. point is, cowboys have no proven player in their secondary right now, so there is a good chance teams will pass all over them.
as for piss pooor scouting and drafting….
this past year, we drafted jackson, who is our leading receiver, and demps, who is making a great impact on special teams.
our 2007 draft consisted of stewart bradley, kevin kolb, and victor abiamiri. bradley is great so far, kolb is supposed to be our future, and abiamiri the jury is still out on since he’s been injured.

Booo Andy Reid!!! He can’t draft… In his tenure, he’s ONLY drafted a handfull of top tier players and only drafted one of the deepest overall football teams in the NFL… Booooo Andy! You suck… Witch!!!! Burn him!!!!
My god… if we had any other coach, he would draft exactly 7 players every year and they would all be playing in the Pro Bowl the following year… That’s just what a good coach/talent evaluator does…
don’t you guys know that?

so you started talking about drafting and now you’re mixing in free agent signings and trades?
by the way, you should probably learn the names of the player on our current roster. Chris Clemmons… just to start with… who, I don’t know if you noticed, had a good game this week btw.

also, I’m not wasting my time digging the stats out because we’ve talked about this before, but if you examine drafting over the past ten years, the Eagles have one of the higher success rates in the NFL. not every draft pick is going to be a star… but the Eagles are one of the better franchises at getting quality out of the draft.
additionally, since you started adding players that we got via free agency and trades. do you realize that you don’t add everyone with the expectation of them being a star? I count at least 5 players on your list who were byproducts of trades of FA signings who are purely for depth.

Its really pitiful I even have to do this, and waste my and others time.
Andy Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles
Team History
- best win total (91)
- winning percentage (.607)
- playoff victory total (8)
- five division titles
- four trips to the NFC Championship game.
No other franchise has earned more divisional playoff round appearances (6) and only Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots have advanced to more conference championship game appearances (5) than Philadelphia (with 4).
Reid has sent 19 players to 44 Pro-Bowl appearances, the highest total for any team in the NFL during that period. None of these players had ever appeared in a Pro-Bowl before Reid was hired. (probably more now this is an older stat)

name someone better … without losing a step … please enlighten me … everyone said the exact same shit about Tony Dungy … and then he won the superbowl … he wouldn’t have if the Colts hadn’t stuck with him.

Whodie… twice in this thread already, I’ve asked him to name a better coach… obviously he doesn’t have a suggestion

I think there’s a case to be made for firing Reid. I’ve been very vocally anti-Reid, and while I do tend to overreact when it comes to Eagles losses, I don’t think it’s insane.
There’s a discussion on FO of the Eagles-SF game that I think summarizes the Fire Reid debate pretty nicely.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/audibles/audibles-line-week-6-2008
and a thread at the700level.com that also explores the subject, all written by guys smarter than me. (Hey, at least I admit it!)
http://www.the700level.com/2008/10/reid-replacemen.html
The thing that the most vocal Anti-Andy guy CANNOT do, is suggest that he’s a bad coach or that he’s been horrible for the franchise. The numbers just don’t support that..
Time's yours, Andy.

ah some realistic suggestions clap clap clap
Once again, if you actually read… We’ve pointed out the short comings he has… But we see that a lot of good has come from Reid being here and can continue to come if he would make a few small adjustments… we in no way have our heads up his ass… we’re just asking you to respond with some thoughtfull responses instead of just rambling opinions

Your positions are that he drafts well, evalutes player well and I think while he has some success w/ drafting players, I gave you a list of some lousy evaluations and drafting of players.
He is NOT a good game day coach and other coaches out smart him w/ their adjustments.
I just want the team to win the big game. I’m sure you do as well.
If you think andy will take us there I strongly disagree.
I’ve been an Eagles fan for propably longer than you’ve been alive.

this is getting ridiculous and I'll probably ignore your worthless posts after this but .... I am bored at work today.
Your positions are that he drafts well, evalutes player well and I think while he has some success w/ drafting players, I gave you a list of some lousy evaluations and drafting of players
Oh darn you mean he isn’t 100% he has sent more players more times to the pro bowl then any other coach while he has been in Philly I think that puts his evaluation of players … well above EVERYONE else.
He is NOT a good game day coach and other coaches out smart him w/ their adjustments.
Yeah you are right his .607 winning percentage really backs that up. Would you say the same about Bill Parcells (.569), how about Bill Belichick (.610), and just for shits and giggles Tom Coughlin (.543). By your logic all of those coaches get out coached.
I just want the team to win the big game. I’m sure you do as well.
Yes I do and right now I think Andy is the one to do it without seriously setting this team back if we go to a new coach. Adjustments need to be made but this isn’t basketball or hockey, or baseball 17 weeks a season makes … firing a coach is a big deal in the NFL.
If you think andy will take us there I strongly disagree.
Your opinion and thats cool but he’s done it before … and I truly believe we can do it again.
I don’t want to come off as being to cruel I realize and share in your pain but if you come in here slingin opinions around like feces without any real way of backing it up and continueing to argue instead of just saying ‘IMO’ you are going to get beat up in here … for future reference.

Andy Reid believes he is smarter than anyone who played the game, coached the game or is a fan of the game. His reluctence to add a top flight receiver is what has hindered further accomplishments. His stubborness to be flexible is painful to watch.
If Reid believes that a stand out #1 receiver isn’t needed why then to they add a stud corner like Samuels? Could it be to match up w/ a #1?
