Comcast unveils plans for "Philly Live!"

It's being called "Philly Live!" and is basically a plan to re-develop the area around the stadiums in South Philadelphia with retail shops, dining, and other entertainment. I must say, this is a long time coming and I'd absolutely welcome it.

This is a rendering of what it could look like.

Sounds fun...
But I wonder how it will affect parking/tailgating.    The Wachovia center lot is my favorite place to hang out before games.

Interesting
That should definitely brighten up the shadiness of that area.  I don't see how parking would be all that big of a problem, seeing as how they share lots between the four venues anyways.

Looks to be the new approach overall to arenas and stadiums.  The Islanders are doing it with the Lighthouse complex out in Long Island, the Yankees have considered doing it with the new stadium and frankly, even Atlantic City has done it with outlet stores.  Might not be such a bad idea.

Looks like Pittsburgh
If you've been to Heinz Field or the Pirates stadium, they've put in this sort of development over there.

Kind of
They have those bars across the street, but I think the plan in Philly is for it to be much more extensive.

I actually like the stadium area in Pittsburgh. I caught a Phils/Pirates game there two summers ago and had a blast. Their new ballpark may be my favorite in the MLB right now

Agreed
PNC Park is an awesome looking stadium.  I was only in town during hockey season, so needless to say the Pirates weren't playing much baseball at the time.

I guess the new Philly pic does have a bit of Pitt's approach to it.  The only difference is they have 6 different sports teams playing practically on the same block.  Although Heinz and PNC are relatively close, Mellon and even the new arena will not be.

Spectrum gets torn down
I don't know what that does for the Phantoms, Kixx, and Wings (they play there, right?)

yea
It's a pretty bizarre area.  I've always seen the Spectrum as the 'other' arena.  Basically, if a concert at Wachovia doesn't sell out, they normally move it to the Spectrum.  I know the Phantoms play there, but as for whoever else I have no idea.  Wachovia has the Flyers, 76ers, Soul (arena football) and most of the concerts too.  Aside from that, I don't know who plays where.

Awesome
I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about the plans on 610. But I think this could work and be great for the city.
