Prediction Time

I've waited until nearly the last moment and the time has finally arrived for me to put it on the line and get my predictions on the record. So here they are, your final 07/08 NFC East standings

Philadelphia Eagles 11-5 - This is a playoff team right now and has to be the odds on favorite to win the division. However, if they can prove themselves on defense specifically against the run they could win a whole lot more.

Washington Redskins 9-7 - A surprise here I'm sure... but I think the Skins are going to be the surprise team this year. I think they have the best defense in the division and when you combine that with a solid running game and a young QB that has some weapons with another year under his belt they could be very dangerous.

Dallas Cowboys 7-9 - I don't get all the Dallas hype going into this season. They are the most beat up team in the division as the season starts. Their offensive line is still suspect, and their defense which was the worst in football over the last 5 games of last year is still riddled with questions. Their best player in an already suspect secondary, Terence Newman, has an injury that will likely affect him all season and there are questions at linebacker with rookies and inexperienced guys filling key roles. Terry Glenn could possibly be out for the season and with TO turning 34 this season you have to wonder what kind of weapons they'll have when it comes to crunch time.

New York Giants 6-10 - This is the start of the rebuilding of the New York Giants. They still have major questions in the secondary, questions in the linebacking corps, and questions on the interior of the defensive line. On offense, their line appears to be worse than last year, they lost their best player in Tiki Barber, and Eli Manning has yet to take the step forward the Giants have been hoping for. This will be lost year for the Giants, but if it ends with them getting Bill Cowher as their new coach it will have been worth it.

So there you go. I'm sure all Dallas and Giants fans will be outraged and swear I have no idea what I'm talking about and I'm just biased. Let's hope time doesn't prove them right!

More or Less How I Have It...
...although you wouldn't believe how many Redskin fans put the blinders on - they may well beat a weak Miami team this weekend and all the locals here in MD will start proclaiming that the Skins will go 16-0 and win the SB.

Anyways, I agree with your comments about the Cowboys - I guess the hype has more to do with the America's Team BS than anything else.  I really can't see Bum's son doing that well.

The Giants will be a large soap opera this year.  I think we ought to do an over-under here at BGN on how long it takes Tom Coughlin to get fired.

I picked the Eagles to finish 10-6, but can see that tney may finish better than that.  I am hoping Donovan reprises his '04 campaign, so we can put to rest all of the comments about his health and the like.

Eagles 10-6
The defense has questions to answer. Donovan will end up carrying them in a few games.

You forgot to mention, Dallas has to find out for real what Tony Romo can do when opponents have film on him and time to game plan for his weaknesses. I would believe 7-9 for Dallas is about right - new coach, new system.

T.O.
Yes, I hate the guy. But I'll try to be objective. Facts- He's 34. He had a good year (statisically) last year but was hampered w/ injuries and dropped a ton of passes. Historically, he pouts if not the center of the world and getting lots of balls, and with Glenn down, he'll be double-teamed and game planned. He hardly played in '05, and was injured much of '04. He's already jammed a shiv in Romo's back with his McNabb/Manning comment. Prediction- By game 5, we will have thrown one of his legendary tantrums and alienated yet another team. Dallas: 6-10 and begging Mr. Bill to come out of retirement.

Hmmmmm?
Maybe take another look at this one, but I applaud the moxie.

Teh Giants look ripe for the cellar, but there is no way the Eagles win 11 and the Cowboys come in under 500.  The Redskins?  Who cares.  Third place at best.

T.O. revisited
I'll give it a few more games, but I have a frozen road-kill crow in the freezer, just in case.
