It's been a long wait for real, substantive Eagles news of any kind, but at last the wait is over. Annnnnnnd.....
The news is bad for Darwin Walker, his position with the Eagles has been filled. Welcome new Eagles DT Mauricio Lopez, formerly of the Cologne Centurions (9 tackles, 1 sack). Apparently he also played 3 years with... ummmm.. this can't be right.... the Mexican national team? There is such a thing? Who knew Mexico had a national football team - although if he played soccer for Mexico I would be truly impressed.
Anyway, Walker still has to wait until Aug. 5 before the Bills ship him back to the Eagles, who will give up a 6th-rounder for the privilege of (probably) cutting Walker the next day. So maybe the news isn't so bad for Walker after all - free agency probably looks pretty darn good to him and his agent, or else Walker would just report to the Bills. I dunno, maybe Banner can get the Bills to take back Kelly Holcomb in return for a 6th round pick.
Speaking of great Eagles past and present, here's a fantastic fun interview with Bill Bergey and Jeremiah Trotter. They compare notes and stories on Dick Vermeil and Andy Reid, among other things. Bergey tells about dogging it in camp and getting called out by Vermeil. In case you haven't voted in the Eagles poll yet, some career stats are posted for the two of them. Both went to 5 Pro Bowls and 1 Superbowl, but Bergey deserves the edge because of his 1,200 tackles, besides which, he absolutely was dominant at the position during his career. IMHO. YMMV. Great stuff.
Which reminds me, there oughta be a poll on greatest head coach in Eagles history to go with that poll of all-time players. Vermeil is obviously up there for consideration but I think the case is stronger for Reid. Not that I'm trying to influence the poll or anything like that.
