Stallworth is a Patriot, then he isn't

Comcast sportsnet reported last night that they had confirmed Stalworth signed a deal with the New England Patriots last night. However, the guys at PFT contacted Donte's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, personally and he denied the report.

ComcastSportsNet.com says that the deal was "confirmed . . . by the office of Drew Rosenhaus, Stallworth's agent."

Well, we tracked down Rosenhaus personally, and he told us:  "There is no deal, and nothing is imminent."

Stallworth visited with the Patriots on Tuesday, and will next visit with the Titans, and then with the Dolphins.  No decision on his next destination is expected until the end of the week, at the earliest.

Sources in Boston(and reader sbrownfan!) have reported that the Pats offer is a 6 yr, $32 million contract, with a $12 million signing bonus. That's close to twice the guaranteed money I had seen speculated that Stallworth would get. If those numbers are real, or even close... Stallworth will likely be a Patriot by the end of the week.

I have every reason to believe those numbers are real. The Vikings signed WR Bobby Wade to a five-year deal worth $15 million including $4 million in guarantees. Last year he had career highs in catches and TDs. That's 33 catches and 2 TDs by the way... Before that he had 10 and 4 receptions in his previous two years. If he can get $15 million with $4 up front, Stallworth can get the kind of deal the Pats are reported to have on the table.

the sky is falling...
ok... i said i'd be ok if he wasnt here. I LIED! i am so damn tired of other teams putting up the cash that we never do. I know we can all sit here and reason that he isnt worth that kind of money... well obviously somebody thinks he is! WHO'S GONNA SPREAD THE FIELD FOR US NOW?... I know that as of right now the deal isnt confirmed... they always say that crap. By friday dick rosenhaus will come full circle and say the deal is done... i wonder if this whole situation woulda been different if stallworth had a different agent.
