support our coach
While I know that so far the season hasn't go an we would have hoped, and people are very unhappy with andy reid and his game day coaching, I want to encourage all of us to stand by him. With the announcement yesterday that his kids were both sentenced to prison terms of 23 months and reid's house being called a "drug emporium", all i heard this morning was about how the eagles fans are getting tired of reid, and he's gonna have to start worrying about lurie needing to listen to what the fans want. At this point in our Reid's life, it's gotta be sucking, and while this year hasn't been the best, for the better part of a decade he has led this team to being a dominant force in the NFL. I'm sick of hearing about how much eagles fans suck cause it's such a tough town and the fans are never happy. This is a time to support our coach and show him that we appreciate it. As much as I hate to use this anaology...when Bellichick got caught cheating, the Patriots and their fans stood by their coach, and i feel like we should do the same. sure we all love booing everything we deem bullshit, but in my opinion, now is a time to support reid, not call for his head.

Appalled
As far as I can tell, none of us or them have any idea what Andy and Tammy have tried to do to positively influence their sons lives over the pst several years. Also, we have no idea how their religion enjoins them to react to such a situation. I do know Andy is practicing "turn the other cheek" when it comes to the vituperation directed at him as a parent and the claims he is somehow neglecting his other children by continuing to work.
It seems to me that they kept their sons at home to try to keep an eye on them and attempt to set them on a straight road. They clearly were not capable of functioning in society on their own had they been cast out. They'd likely be dead by now in that case.
These cases also seem to be surrounded by a cloud of misinformation. For example, Rob Charry on WIP tonight was acting all appalled that Andy had let his sons get some of his guns. Actually Rob, we don't know if Andy has any guns. The guns Britt had were his own, obtained legally on his own without any help from his parents.
I personally believe Andy is continuing to coach because the he thinks the only thing that would be accomplished by quitting is that he would be telling all his kids that he will be affected by their acting out, and he will accept the consequences (losing his job) of their actions.
Last thought, the comments by Correll Buckhalter and Sheldon Brown were truly appalling, implying a double standard for Coach Reid vs. how the league would treat a player in this situation. I presume they are thinking about the Tank Johnson situation, where he was disciplined for the actions of his bodyguard living under his roof dealing drugs and involving firearms violations. In that case thought, Johnson had himself violated Illinois firearms law. Andy Reid hasn't done anything except to try to straighten his kids out at his home. If those two players can't understand that and insist on speaking about it further in public, I question their longevity on this team when they are being quoted in the media essentially asking why the league is not discipling their head coach. I fail to see how the interests of the NFL or of ordinary fairness would be advanced by discipling Reid for the personal failures of his sons.
