School is in session

Big Red did his stoneface act and gave the media nothing as usual in his day-after presser. Boy, do they ever hate him for that.

No real news came out of the Monday film session. The Inqy indulged in a headline that seems more suited to the Daily News, "Eagles Seek Cure for Stupidity." Harsh but deserved. The game against Tampa Bay game demonstrated plenty of stupidity all around.

The coach's message was apparently steady as she goes, this is a good team with a lot of talent and the ability to win big if players can focus on the job every down. That means the big news is, Reid is not going to satisfy anyone's thirst for vengeance by throwing McDougle overboard.

The fun stuff is behind the curtain...

Paul Domowitch's regular feature, What Andy Said, What Andy Meant, has a couple of gems.

What he said: "I want them to have a chance to look at the film today. To get rid of [the loss]. To move on."

What he meant: "If I've got to watch this, they're going to have to watch this. Plus, I'm hoping that maybe it'll have the same impact on them that those gory videos of drunk-driving crashes have on high school kids before the prom."

No doubt the kids' homework assignment was to watch the Giants, a team the Eagles could have beat, hang a devastating loss (and possibly season-ending QB switch) on Dallas, a team the Eagles beat for real. Lesson: The NFC East is up for grabs by one of those three teams. It should be the Eagles. More on that subject:

ON THE LOSS' IMPACT ON THE EAGLES' PLAYOFF HOPES:

What he said: "I like this football team. I like the character on this team. Yesterday, you could see throughout the league that people who were in the NFC got beat. Those things happen."

What he meant: "The beginning of the year, I thought we had to go at least 10-6 to make the playoffs. But as bad as this conference is, I'm thinking 7-9 might do it. Three more wins, baby."

Just to set the analogy on fire before pushing it over the cliff, I'll say the Eagles earn extra credit for showing the league how to beat the Cowboys with a steady diet of blitzes. As long as the Eagles' lines are strong they'll be in games up to the end. As long as the Dallas lines are substandard they won't. Sometimes it's a simple game.
